Chapter 84: No way in hell.

The woman with purple hair wasn’t just a random hooker or a drunk cougar looking for a new toy. Having realized that much, Dante knew he had to immediately change his approach or he risked getting himself into far more trouble than he bargained for.

Raising his hands, he wiped whatever expression he was wearing and tried to look as apologetic as he possibly could.

“Listen, lady-”

“Call me Rose.” She interrupted. Her lips, which were covered in a darker shade of purple, curved in a flirtatious smile.

“Listen, I’m flattered, really, but I didn’t come here for what you think.” Whatever it was, Dante had no idea. “I just wanted a drink, okay? I was about to leave, too.”

“Oh really?” She continued to hold his gaze, totally unfazed. “You came here for a drink and nothing else?”

“Not that it’s any of your business, but yeah.”

Dante considered the chance that she might be working for Black Skull, but he doubted a small-time gang could afford someone like her. That meant she had some other objective, and having seen through his intentions, she thought he might become a hindrance and wished to get rid of him.

With that in mind, Dante tried to get it through to her that he had no intention of getting in her way and that he would leave her be. His tongue slipped a little near the end, but he didn’t think she would be so petty that she would make a fuss about a slightly rude remark.

Of course, he could always ask Volcan to fry her brain or crush her with one of his armors. He was holding back on those options for now, wanting to see if it was possible to solve things amicably.

As he awaited her reply, Dante noticed something in the corner of his eye and realized things were about to get a whole lot messier.

“Well, you can consider this a nice surprise, then. Say, how about-”

The rest of her words were silenced by the sound of a loud clap, one that the woman pinning him to the wall felt more than heard.

The situation Dante was in drew quite a bit of attention. A group of men sitting at a nearby table have been watching for some time now, laughing as if the whole thing were some hilarious comedy show.

One of them seemed to get tired of it and decided to join the fun, walking over with a big smirk on his face and, without any shred of hesitation, slapped Rose’s ass.

“Uh-oh! That’s some spongy cake you got down there!” He cackled. “Say, Gorgeous, how about you forget the kid and come play with us?”

He was tall and well built, wearing a simple pair of jeans and a tight-fitting shirt that accentuated his chiseled body. His face wasn’t much to brag about, but it wasn’t horrendous either. If only he had more than a single brain cell to process the world with. But that was okay, too.

Dante was eternally thankful for the idiot and what he did. The world truly needs such buffoons around; though they make a lot of things more difficult for themselves and the people around them, one can’t deny how useful they can be at times. Like in this situation, where the muscle head decided to sacrifice himself to offer Dante a chance to escape.

The smile disappeared from the woman’s frozen face then returned a second later, although this time it lacked any of the sensuality it had before.

“Sorry, would you mind waiting here for a bit?”

She spoke in an apologetic tone then backed away without waiting for a reply. Turning around, she approached the courageous idiot whose smile only widened. He opened his mouth intending to say something, but before he could utter a single syllable, an elegant hand shot up and grasped the lower half of his face.

“Say, I don’t remember talking to you before. Do I know you?”

Her tone hadn’t changed much, still lacking the slightest hint of anger. The idiot tried to back away, and when that didn’t work, he grabbed her arm and pulled, but the grip on his face didn’t budge. Negating all his effort, Rose pulled him down, forcing him to bend until he fell on his knees.

“Do I know you?” She repeated the question, but with his mouth sealed shut, the man could only shake his head slightly.

“I see.” Nodding, Rose let a smile play on her lips. “In that case, what made you think it was okay to touch me?”

Fear erased the effects of alcohol and left the courageous idiot ghastly pale. He tried shaking his head again, but the grip holding him in place only tightened, red droplets drawing trails on his cheeks as nails dug into them.

“You touched me without permission.” With her free hand, Rose reached into the pocket of her jacket and took something out then raised her hand, letting everyone see what it was. “You know what that means, right?”

Watching the lusterless black brass knuckles slide between her slender fingers, the realization of how much he had messed up hit the drunk idiot at full force. His plea to be let go was answered a second later, but before he could enjoy a moment of relief, a firm fist planted itself into the left side of his face.

The world around him spun, and an instant later, his head hit the hard floor, bouncing off of it with an audible bang before settling on its surface once more.

The commotion had been relatively calm until then, but as soon as the knockout was delivered, the music seemed to halt and all eyes turned to that one corner of the club.

The idiot’s friends came back to their senses after remaining petrified for several seconds, and true to their perceived reputation, they decided that the best response to seeing their friend get his teeth removed was to pull up their sleeves and jump into the ring.

“You bitch!”

“How dare you!”

“I’m gonna kill you!”

That night, three grown men got their asses handed to them by a single woman. Dante wasn’t there to see it, however. He had picked the right moment and slipped away while all eyes were focused on the purple-haired beauty and her first victim.

As he sprinted away from the nameless nightclub, a single thought repeated in his mind again and again.
