As many already know, Cursed Spirits are born from the accumulation of negative emotions and hatred rooted in the hearts of humans.
But here’s the real question:
Why do negative human emotions in this world give birth to Cursed Spirits—creatures that take on distinct forms and powers with their own unique system?
What is the true source behind all of this?
Allow me—Zenin Kyūjō—to explain everything in detail.
(Note: This part has never been explained in the manga. What you’re about to read is entirely my own interpretation.)
— — —
A long time ago, back when Jujutsu Sorcerers and Cursed Spirits first began to emerge into the world, there existed a peculiar man by the name of Tengen—the first human to awaken the technique of Immortality.
However, his technique was far from perfect.
To maintain his human form, Tengen had to undergo periodic reincarnations by merging with a compatible Plasma Vessel—a human girl whose body could accommodate him.
If he ever stopped reincarnating or failed to synchronize with a new vessel, he would continue evolving… into a higher-dimensional being capable of disrupting the very balance of this world.
But at the same time Tengen was born, something—or rather, someone—else appeared.
An existence unlike anything that had ever walked the earth.
An entity that couldn’t be classified as human… and far surpassed even the most terrifying Cursed Spirits.
It wasn’t born from fear.
It wasn’t born from rage.
And it wasn’t born from any natural phenomenon.
It was forged from the ultimate curse of the cosmos—
A being that had once transcended humanity, and then fallen… into ruin.
They called it…
“Him.”
— — —
Unlike the average Cursed Spirits, born from collective negative thoughts, this entity wasn’t created by people.
He was the only being in all of history born not from hatred…
…but from the desire to save.
Yes.
He was a product of salvation—a noble will to rescue all living things—that had failed.
And that failure… festered.
It twisted.
It cursed.
And it gave birth to a monster.
— — —
Long ago, there existed a divine figure—an enlightened being.
He had transcended the mortal coil.
He sought salvation not just for himself, but for all sentient beings.
He yearned to escape this world.
To liberate everyone from the cycle of suffering.
To reach true enlightenment by severing every worldly attachment.
But as time passed…
As he bore witness to the endless greed, the cruelty, the hypocrisy of mankind…
Something inside him began to crack.
“When… will all living beings finally be saved?”
That question echoed within him for centuries.
It carved itself deep into his soul.
It festered into what we might now call… a cursed inner demon.
When a normal person breaks, they suffer alone.
But when a being of divine magnitude collapses from within…
The world itself bears the consequence.
And from that moment on…
The laws of the world began to shift.
— — —
Negative human emotions were no longer just fleeting feelings.
They became power.
They became form.
They became Cursed Energy.
And with enough accumulation, they evolved into Cursed Spirits.
But that was merely the beginning.
For the greatest curse of all—the divine one’s failure to save all living beings—took on a shape of its own.
That curse… became Him.
A manifestation of divine regret.
A paradoxical savior.
A being who wanted to save… but brought only ruin.
— — —
In Buddhist teachings, the character “渡” (do) means “to cross over”—
From the realm of suffering to Nirvana,
From mortality to enlightenment.
But because this divine being failed to bring others across…
He, too, was left behind.
The failure turned into a curse.
And that curse became a will.
And that will became… Him.
— — —
His original intent never changed.
Even after his rebirth, He still wished to “save humanity.”
But only He knew the real reason behind that wish.
No one else ever realized…
That the salvation He offered wasn’t for the people—
It was for Himself.
He believed that only by liberating humanity could He finally sever His connection to this world and be free.
But the nature of his new existence made that impossible.
Because now, to “save,” He had to destroy.
His form was a paradox.
A savior cursed by salvation itself.
A being convinced that humanity could only be saved—
by erasing them all.
— — —
And then…
From within that contradiction—
From deep inside the remnants of the divine being—
A new self was born.
A piece of Him that still wished to be human.
A spark of hope that still longed to protect.
That fragment reincarnated… as Tengen.
A man who sealed away his divine memories, burying the past.
He made himself forget who he once was.
But the truth remained.
Tengen’s need to reincarnate wasn’t just a ritual.
It was a desperate attempt to prevent himself from returning…
To Him.
Because deep down, that part of him still slumbered.
Still whispered.
Still called out.
And Tengen…
Tengen feared what might happen if that voice ever woke up again.
For the day he stopped running—
Would be the day He returned.
— — —
And now…
He waits.
Patiently. Quietly.
Waiting for a chosen human—one who can fulfill the mission of “salvation”… through erasure.
To Him, Cursed Spirits are nothing more than tools—living weapons crafted from humanity’s collective suffering. They were always meant to be sacrificed in the name of “universal salvation.”
But what He doesn’t realize…
Is that these “weapons” aren’t just pawns.
They are part of a far greater plan—
A design meant to restore Him to His original form.
And for that, He needs a perfect vessel.
A body capable of containing the greatest curse in existence.
That vessel… is the body currently possessed by the one who took over Suguru Geto’s corpse.
— — —
He’s already predicted how Gojo Satoru will respond.
He understands.
To face the Six Eyes means preparing a strategy layered with misdirection, traps, and sacrifice.
As for Zenin Kyūjō…
The plan for now is simple.
Use Ryomen Sukuna.
Let Sukuna deal with him. Let the King of Curses eliminate the unpredictable monster who could ruin everything.
Only then… will the Culling Game begin.
But in truth, the Culling Game is merely a test.
A large-scale simulation to determine whether humanity is worthy of being used as tools of salvation.
A final experiment—
All for the sake of resurrecting the Divine One.

Tokyo Jujutsu High
At that moment, Zenin Kyūjō was sparring with Zenin Maki on the open field, both wielding real blades as they exchanged blow after blow in an intense training match.
But while his body fought instinctively, Kyūjō had already activated Infinity Analysis—not to read Maki’s moves, but to study something far more subtle.
The faint trace of Cursed Energy inside her body.
With his years of experience in cursed anatomy and technique research, the man they called the God of Knowledge, Zenin Kyūjō, was finally piecing together the answer to Maki’s long-standing mystery.
By all logic, Zenin Maki, as someone born with a Heavenly Restriction, should have zero Cursed Energy.
But the existence of her twin sister, Zenin Mai, had always interfered with that truth.
Even before birth, their connection caused a fragment of Mai’s Cursed Energy to seep into Maki’s body.
Because of that… both sisters were incomplete.
Mai was born with diminished energy, leaving her weak.
And Maki, who should’ve had a pure, enhanced physical body untainted by Cursed Energy, became a half-finished product.
After the spar, Kyūjō walked to the edge of the training field, silent and contemplative.
“Is there a way to fix this…?”
If he could somehow transfer that sliver of energy from Maki back to Mai, then each twin could awaken their full potential.
A perfect, mutual balance.
But… how?
Just as the idea started spiraling in his mind, a familiar presence appeared beside him.
Gojo Satoru, flashing his usual mischievous grin.
“Zenin Kyūjō-kun,” Gojo called out cheerfully. “Got a minute?”
Kyūjō raised an eyebrow. “What for?”
Gojo’s grin widened playfully, “You pissed off a woman. Now she’s back from overseas… just to find you.”
“And just a heads up,” he added, patting Kyūjō’s shoulder. “She’s no ordinary woman. You already know who I mean, don’t you?”
Kyūjō sighed.
“A woman who makes Gojo Satoru say ‘not weak’…
…and just returned from abroad?
There’s only one candidate.”
“Yuki Tsukumo. Special Grade Sorcerer. Always vanishing like a mythical dragon.”
Gojo raised his hand dramatically. “Bingo! She’s waiting for you in the back mountains right now. And she specifically said… she wants a fight.”
“A fight, huh?” Kyūjō responded casually.
Then without hesitation, he leapt into the sky, walking on air with Air Step, heading straight for where Yuki was waiting.
— — —
Before him now stood a tall woman, golden hair flowing in the wind, her aura sharp and unrelenting.
Kyūjō descended calmly from the sky and greeted her with a composed tone. “Yuki Tsukumo?”
The woman eyed him—his flashy arrival reminded her too much of Gojo.
She gave a slight nod. “So you’re Zenin Kyūjō?”
Kyūjō nodded back, then bowed his head slightly.
“I assigned you as Vice Director without your consent. That was my mistake. I apologize.”
But Yuki simply gave a small, amused smile.
“No need to apologize. Honestly, that was a good call. Those old fossils on the Council have disgusted me for years. You killed them? Good riddance.”
She narrowed her eyes.
“But still… I want to test your strength.”
Before he could respond, she clenched her fist and lunged forward.
Kyūjō let out a faint smirk.
“This woman…
She’s interesting.
Even her technique… is fascinating.”
— — —
Yuki Tsukumo
Innate Technique: Star Rage
This ability gives her body an imaginary mass, drastically increasing her impact force—without physically burdening her.
In theory, if she sacrificed her own safety, she could compress her mass into something close to a miniature black hole.
Even Zenin Kyūjō wouldn’t survive a direct hit if he didn’t dodge in time.
Shikigami Weapon: Garuda Wheel (Hōrin)
A sentient Shikigami weapon born from her technique.
The only other entity capable of channeling Star Rage aside from Yuki herself.
From her previous conversations with Master Tengen in the main storyline, it’s revealed that Yuki was once a Plasma Vessel, and holds deep hatred toward the idea of self-sacrifice to preserve Tengen’s immortality.
— — —
Yuki’s fist flew at him like a meteor.
But Kyūjō didn’t draw his katana.
He didn’t even activate Black Flash.
He simply raised his arm—
And countered with a single punch.
A deep, violent shockwave tore through the ground beneath their feet.
It wasn’t the kind of sound bones and flesh were supposed to make.
The earth cracked beneath them, long fissures ripping across the training field.
Yuki’s eyes widened.
Even though she hadn’t used her full strength, Kyūjō had met her blow head-on—
And even pushed her back.
A faint vibration rippled through Kyūjō’s arm.
With a slight twist of his wrist, he dispersed the tension and forced Yuki to stumble a few steps backward.
“If this is all you’ve got,” he said with a confident smile,
“You’re not my opponent.”
“Cocky brat. That was just a warm-up,” Yuki scoffed.
Then she summoned her weapon—Garuda Wheel—a massive sphere of compressed metal.
“Now watch yourself, kid. If you can’t take this, you’re dead.”
With no warning, she launched it with a brutal kick—
The ball hurtled through the air like a cannon.
Kyūjō calmly raised his hand.
And in that instant—
BOOM!!
A burst of Black Flash erupted from his fist, colliding with the sphere and obliterating it mid-air into a rain of molten fragments.
— — —
“I don’t have to pay for that, right?” Kyūjō asked, lowering his fist with a casual grin.
— — —
October 31st, 2018.
The world of Jujutsu had just begun to settle.
But the storm… was only beginning.
Halloween. Shibuya. 5:00 PM.
After successfully luring Zenin Kyūjō overseas, His grand plan began.
Cursed Spirits flooded the heart of Shibuya.
Hundreds of civilians were taken hostage.
A massive barrier rose over the district, sealing off the entire area.
So far, not a single sorcerer—
Not even Grade 1 elites like Nanami or Mei Mei—had been able to break through.
On the other side, He gave the order:
“Attack Gojo Satoru directly.”
The chaos unfolded in mere moments.
Jujutsu High initiated emergency mobilization and evacuation protocols.
8:31 PM.
Gojo Satoru arrived.
— — —
Without hesitation, Gojo extended one hand.
And just like that—
He slipped through the barrier that not even elite sorcerers could enter.
As he stepped into the chaos, he smiled to himself and muttered under his breath—
“So this is a trap just for me, huh?
Sounds fun.
Let’s hope the welcome party isn’t boring.”
