Chapter 92
Ayla was restrained and taken to the dungeons.
Yuran and the Knights began monitoring her themselves. Calian’s strict orders were followed to not allow her a single chance to escape until the knights from the royal palace arrived to transfer her to Kyrisis.
Calian then ordered every single remaining knight – barring the 2 he had sent to Hanson village with Kyrie and the 6 he had monitoring Ayla and Norton in the dungeons – to search the bar and the building Ayla had mentioned.
Taking advantage of the time it would take for the servants to transfer Calian’s luggage to another room in the castle, Calian visited the dungeon alone. He was not going to see Ayla, whom he longer wanted to face, but rather Norton.
Having checked his surroundings, Calian held out a small piece of paper to Norton. Norton who accepted it, asked bluntly,
“What is it?”
Calian replied with a smile,
“Eat it tomorrow morning,”
Calian, having said so, left without further words or explanations.
When Norton unwrapped the piece of paper, he found the piece of sugar he had stolen previously hidden inside. Norton didn’t know exactly what it was, but it wasn’t like he could do anything about anything anymore. So he carefully wrapped it back up in the paper and hid it away.
After returning to his new room, Calian picked up an empty piece of paper and began to write. It was a letter asking for mercy so that Malcom Chetish, who had helped catch a felon of Kyris, could be forgive.
After sealing the letter, he handed it to Yan and said,
“You can give it to the butler,”
Yan replied that he would be happy to so.
—
Meanwhile, at the exact same time…
Hale Latran was walking around his room with an anxious look. He was chewing on his fingernails which he had pretty much already chewed down to the flesh of his fingers already.
He didn’t like this current situation. An assassin was heard in Calian’s room. They fought so hard that the whole castle shook and there was a hole in one of the walls. But Calain neither explained nor interrogated him.
On top of that, Malcom had disappeared.
At some point, he had thought that he would scold him when he came back, but night soon fell and Malcolm still wasn’t back.
“What on earth is going on here!?”
Hale, who was biting his nails in frustration once again paused when a servant approached with a small rolled up letter. It was news delivered by carrier pigeon.
“Is it about the royal family searching the manor in the capital?”
It was expected but it wasn’t something he was very concerned about.
Hale did not leave any evidence there anyway. In addition to that, he had sent a carrier pigeon in advance this morning to Lenon Brissen to inform him about the situation and ask for help. Hadn’t he been flattering them so much so that they could be of help to him at times like this?
Hale, who thought he had been well prepared in advance, unfolded the letter.
And his eyes began to grow in size.
It wasn’t from his house.
[Since you’ll need someone to defend you, I asked for some help. I explained to Queen Silica exactly what it was that you were selling, so don’t worry at all. — Alan Manasil]
The letter dropped from Hale’s hands.
It seemed he should check exactly how far Calian knew about this matter. Whether the thing written in Alan Manasil’s letter was truly the correct thing.
Hale hurried out of his room. Then changed his mind and came back in.
“No. That sly mage bastard wouldn’t have sent such a letter unless he already knew everything. It’s exhausting having to bow to that commoner’s brat so let’s just hide things first,”
Hale locked the door of the room.
There was an item that had to be hidden in case the secret room became known when those sent by the royal family searched the castle.
Something that the Marquis of Brissen and Silica should never know about.
The divine item!
He had intended to take some of the divine items that had been purchased from Blue Warbler that had not yet been made known to the Brissen Merchantry as of yet.
Click
As he turned the hands of the small clock atop the fireplace, the bookshelf next to it began to move with a small sound.
In the hidden room, there were many valuables piled up but Hale didn’t glance at any of them, instead he moved to the corner where there were a few boxes piled up. He picked up one of the boxes on top of the pile and opened it to check what was inside.
There were quite a few divine items gathered. Enough that just the items in that one box was enough to be a small fortune but he had collected them separately in order to be able to negotiate with Lennon Brissen a little more – and yet this problem had occurred.
With regret, Hale quickly closed the lid of the box and got up again.
“Thank you,”
And he heard these words.
Hale raised his head in check. There was the head of a man floating in front of his eyes. Then, as if someone was drawing in the air, the neck, shoulders and upper body appeared little by little.
Faced with such an unexpected situation, Hale sat there, breathing heavily.
“Who- Who are you!”
It was a vaguely familiar person.
The mage who had visited Calian in the rain the night before….
Mage!
Soon after, his whole body appeared and he looked at Hale calmly and belatedly introduced himself. He had a serious face that showed not a hint of amusement as he said,
“I am the mage, Arsene Hertz,”
The reason why no one could open the door that Calian had locked with magic when fighting Ayla was because the only wizard capable of opening it was hiding in Hale’s room.
The reason being, of course, was to find the evidence that even the butler Malcolm was not aware of.
After all, Calian had said that the more evidence there was, the better.
Of course, the transaction records on paper were important, but wouldn’t it be better to have something flashy like this?
Therefore, Arsene Hertz, who had been hiding in Hale’s room for hours while maintaining the four-circle transparency magic, opened his mouth and spoke in a very polite tone,
“As hard as I worked to find it, I will use it well,”
And with that, Arsene took the box from Hale’s hands. He paused, then as though he seemed to have recalled something, said,
“And… don’t worry, I’ll make sure that the sly mage bastard and the commoner’s brat prince that the Count was very cooperative and handed over the evidence without any resistance,”
Hale’s face had been bleached white.
The sounds of his gasping breath were loud as though they were being squeezed out his lungs.
