Chapter 307 - 304: Seizing the Ship
Chapter 307: Chapter 304: Seizing the Ship
When Mundo leaped onto the Denis Three and engaged Ronin, if the pirates’ second ship also had a Golden Knight, he certainly would have tried to board and support Mundo.
But that didn’t happen. They just continued to use their Magic Energy Cannon to bombard Reis and the others from a distance. Only after seeing that the Magic Energy Cannon was ineffective did they consider boarding.
Furthermore, their method of boarding wasn’t like Mundo’s, who could leap dozens of meters. Instead, they had their ship slowly approach the Denis Three.
Therefore, Ronin concluded, ’There’s no Golden Knight on this ship.’
So, he boldly imitated Mundo and leaped directly toward the enemy ship.
He soared through the air, a sight that stunned the pirates on the enemy vessel. Only their two leaders reacted. “Quick, open fire!”
In a panic, the Archers nocked their arrows, drew their bowstrings, and hastily aimed at Ronin.
But by then, Ronin had already landed on the deck like a great bird.
“Storm Blade.”
With a swing of his Flame Stream Sword, a dozen Wind Blades blanketed the area before him, severely wounding all the Archers.
“Quick, attack him together!”
The Knights on the ship drew their Longswords and charged toward Ronin.
“Kill!”
“Kill!”
The sounds of battle were incessant, but Ronin remained completely unfazed.
“You were the one using the Magic Energy Cannon just now, weren’t you?”
He sneered, forcefully tearing through the crowd and charging toward the man operating the Magic Energy Cannon.
The man was only a Bronze Knight, and his Fighting Qi was nearly depleted after firing the Magic Energy Cannon three times. Facing Ronin’s assault, he raised his sword to block, only to have it split in two. A bloody gash appeared from his forehead down to his chin, and he died on the spot.
Ronin was completely unconcerned by the attacks coming from all sides.
Relying on his agile Body Technique and Fast Sword style, he not only perfectly parried or dodged their attacks but also took the lives of several assailants with his counterattacks.
’There are only two Bronze Knights on this ship, not even a single Silver Knight,’ Ronin thought. ’It seems Mundo, the Golden Knight, is responsible for the entire frontal assault of this assassination attempt.’
In reality, Ronin was mistaken.
Besides Mundo, there was another Silver Knight. However, just as he landed on the Denis Three, the shockwave had thrown him into the sea. He still hadn’t managed to climb back aboard.
Meanwhile, seeing Ronin’s valor, Reis was perhaps spurred on by his own competitive spirit. He rushed to the stern of his ship and, following Ronin’s example, leaped onto the other pirate vessel and began his own slaughter.
Unfortunately for him, most of the Knights on this ship were already in the sea. Reis had barely killed a few men before the rest all dropped to their knees, begging for their lives.
“You! Have your men control the ship and approach the Denis Three!”
Reis held his Longsword to the captain’s throat, forcing the man to maneuver the vessel slowly toward the crippled Denis Three. Captain Wheat Bran and the others remaining on the ship quickly transferred over.
“Reis Knight, please hurry and support the Count!”
Tom and David pleaded.
Even though they could see Ronin tearing through his enemies, they couldn’t help but worry.
“Don’t worry, we’re on our way.”
By the time the two pirate ships were close enough for Reis, Tom, David, and the others to jump aboard, Ronin’s fight was already over.
After the initial slaughter, the remaining pirates, seeing that they stood no chance against Ronin, had all thrown down their Weapons and were prostrated on the deck, begging for mercy.
Ronin paid them little mind, instead surveying the ship.
Since Ronin hadn’t used any particularly destructive Combat Skills after boarding, the ship was largely undamaged and in excellent condition.
Seeing Reis leap aboard, he couldn’t help but smile. “The Dennis Clan may have lost one ship, but we’ve captured two. Reis Knight, the one you took is yours, and this one is mine.”
Reis swallowed the words he had prepared to ask if Ronin was injured. He hadn’t expected the first thing Ronin would say to him was about dividing the spoils.
Still, the Denis Three had been destroyed, which was a huge loss. Acquiring two ships of a similar size would certainly compensate for it.
“Fine!”
Reis glanced at the Magic Energy Cannon on deck. “We survived this battle thanks to you. The Dennis Clan will accept that other ship, but the rest of the spoils are all yours.”
Ronin gave him a mental thumbs-up.
’This guy might have a perpetually sour look on his face,’ Ronin thought, ’but he’s surprisingly upright. He really won’t take what he doesn’t feel he’s earned.’
“Tom, David, you and the other Knights from the Dennis Clan, tie all these men up and herd them onto one of the ships.”
As he spoke, he patted the captain’s face with the flat of his Longsword. “What’s your name?”
The captain trembled. The smell of blood and the cold steel of the blade were a double shock that made him wet his trousers.
“M-my lord, my name is Vic!”
His desire to live compelled him to beg for his life.
“My lord, please don’t kill me! I’m familiar with these waters and have many years of sailing experience. If you have a need for it, Vic is willing to serve you!”
A captain with extensive sailing experience was a rare talent, the kind of man who could make a living in any port city.
Ronin was tempted, but he still sneered, “I have no intention of entrusting my property to someone who just tried to kill me.”
Ships are expensive. If an untrustworthy person was put in charge and decided to sail off with it one day, the loss would be immense.
Then again, if the man truly submitted, Ronin could consider giving him a chance.
“My lord, please believe in my loyalty! If you just forgive my transgressions, from this moment on, I will be your loyal servant!”
’Loyalty?’
’Someone who throws the word ’loyalty’ around so easily… their actual loyalty is questionable.’
“Alright, Vic. Tell me who you are and give me the full details of this operation.”
Ronin sheathed his Flame Stream Sword and said in a low, threatening tone, “If your performance is satisfactory, I might consider sparing your life.”
“I’ll talk! I’ll talk!”
Vic grew anxious, as if afraid Ronin would take back his offer. “I won’t hide anything I know!”
The captain then explained his identity and the details of the assassination plot.
It turned out the two ships belonged to the White Whale Pirate Gang, which was active around the Screaming Sea and the North Sea.
Captain Wheat Bran of the Dennis Clan added that this Pirate Gang was extremely active and had plundered the merchant ships of many different clans.
The Earl of Scream Island had once attempted to encircle and destroy them, but the cost had been too great, and the campaign had ultimately ended in failure.
The White Whale Pirate Gang hadn’t been planning any recent excursions, but just two days ago, a Golden Knight—Mundo—had arrived at their base.
It seemed that Mundo’s arrival prompted the leader of the Pirate Gang to assemble the crews of two ships and immediately set out for the Screaming Sea, heading south to destroy the Dennis Clan’s vessel.
As for the assassination itself, Vic, being just a regular member of the Pirate Gang, had no access to the relevant details. He had only overheard the Knights mention during the voyage that the target was Ronin, not Reis Knight of the Dennis Clan.
A few faces flashed through Ronin’s mind. ’There are only a handful of people who hate me enough to want me dead.’
“My lord, if you want to know more, you might be able to find out from our Vice Leader, Karaveli.”
“Who is Karaveli?”
Ronin glanced around, but none of the captives kneeling on the deck responded.
Vic explained, “Vice Leader Karaveli is a Silver Knight. According to the plan, he was supposed to board the ship with Mundo. If he isn’t among the captives, then he must have been knocked into the sea by your immense Power.”
Ronin’s heart skipped a beat. ’I didn’t expect a Silver Knight to be involved, too.’
“Reis Knight, take some men and pull the survivors out of the water. Keep an eye out for that Silver Knight.”
Reis nodded. There were indeed a few survivors in the water.
If they could capture the Vice Leader of the White Whale Pirate Gang, they could probably get more intelligence.
He wouldn’t let them get away with this ambush and assassination attempt!
