Mu Lin remained silent, holding down the wooden lunchbox, her brown eyes fixed on him. She didn’t look sad or angry, but if one had to assume, she seemed just a tad melancholic.

Yang Wei nodded, impressed. “You know your stuff,” he remarked.

Mu Lin grinned, “My reward?” She opened her mouth, and Yang Wei tossed a shrimp to her. She caught it whole, and they both exclaimed, “Perfect score!” They sealed the moment with a high-five. What followed after, was a small chuckle from both of them—they laughed out her child-like they could act around themselves but not other people.

Using chopsticks, Mu Lin peeled off a thick piece of the roasted fish she had prepared. She dipped it into a small sauce and fed it to Yang Wei. Happily watching him chew his food, she asked, “Could you tell me the story of you and the Yuan Po guy again?” she gave him a small feline stare.

“I’m still skeptical about you, who was at the 4th level of the Mortal Realm at the time, defeating a senior disciple with an ancient technique of their clan, so I’ll just take it with a grain of salt.”

Yang Wei chewed once more and swallowed heavily, responding, “What? You don’t believe me? I’m pretty strong; you just don’t know it.”

Yang Wei shook his head, saying, “No.” He smiled, “not at all.”

Mu Lin’s attention shifted from the fish to Yang Wei. Slowly, her face inched toward his, and it seemed like they were on the brink of a kiss. But just as their lips were about to meet, the door swung open abruptly. Startled, they both turned to see who it was.

She was dressed in her usual black and golden martial artist robes.
