He stood alone, the dim light of his castle stretching long shadows behind him. The faint scent of old stone and mist clung to the air, while the others appeared regal, radiant, and composed, monarchs framed by splendor, while he stood in gloom.

For a fleeting moment, Ethan wanted to vanish, to find a hole and sink into it, unseen.

But there was no turning back now.
