Chapter 150: Demi-God’s Body
Silence, silence, then suddenly—a greatsword slashed horizontally.
It was a blink-of-an-eye speed, so swift that even the afterimage of the greatsword had not yet faded before it already slashed toward Corleon.
Then it was blocked by Corleon with just a single little finger.
“Such powerful strength, it almost cut my little finger,” Corleon said in admiration.
“This has already surpassed the limits of the human body. Power gained by selling out the entire Church Nation—this is a body at the demi-god level.”
“…Human, do not try to anger me,” Gluttony said.
“I’m merely stating facts. This wouldn’t be the first time you’ve been caught like this, would it?” The smile on Corleon’s face grew even more radiant.
Even with eyes that had reached the Authority level, Corleon could not see into Gluttony’s past, who was of the same tier.
But he could perceive it from Gluttony’s reaction.
Gluttony withdrew his greatsword and planted it before himself. The crimson rectangular pupils in his eyes gradually stabilized.
“Pegiraov, that bastard, even on the brink of death, wouldn’t let us go,” Gluttony’s voice grew steady.
“We helped him kill those existences, yet he still wanted to kill us.”
“He betrayed our alliance.”
“He violated our pact.”
“But we are immortal and indestructible. As long as there is one life in this world, we will continue to exist.”
“Even if we are now trapped inside this armor, at least I can still move, still seize power.” As he spoke, he raised his arm and clenched his fist.
“As long as we seize enough power, we will eventually break free from the seal.”
He looked at Corleon.
“I’ve read your Holy Scriptures of the Lord, and I’ve seen your power just now.”
“I can feel that your essence is the same as ours. You should be on our side.”
“Cooperate with me, and I can lift the blockade on the Church Nation. In an instant, you will gain the faith of tens of thousands.”
“This is the sincerity I offer in choosing to work with you.”
He said.
“No need to worry about Pegiraov. A certain existence has already told me that he will meet his death.”
“Not the natural death of an ordinary man, but the death of the concept of Pegiraov itself—a true death. Right now, he doesn’t even possess future vision anymore.”
“No need to worry about Aivas either. He has been entangled too… on the Morning Star, sealed. His clairvoyance has been bound. Right now, he cannot even probe the earth.”
“And he too will soon fall into slumber. His slumber intertwines with Pegiraov’s rebirth.”
“When Pegiraov dies forever, he too shall enter Eternal Sleep.”
“Without the interference of those two bastards, we can truly gain this world. We are willing to share with you the spoils that rightfully belong to us.”
“That is the entire world. You may, in this world, carve out rules that belong to you.”
He extended his hand, issuing an invitation to Corleon.
“Quite the tempting price. Is this how you got the other two to agree to trade with you?” Corleon asked.
“Human needs are but endless desire,” he replied, then withdrew his hand.
“It seems you’ve refused my offer.”
“You are the sins of the world, and ought to be purified.” Corleon extended his hand toward him.
“Heh, even Pegiraov could only seal us, and you think you’re worthy to say such words?” Gluttony let out a mocking laugh.
“You are unnecessary, and must be purified. This is something that someone must do.” As he spoke, a small orb of Holy Light rose from Corleon’s palm, slowly ascending until it was level with Gluttony’s helmet.
“I feel pure suppression,” Gluttony said.
“A power of the same tier as ours, yet one of absolute restraint.”
“This is your confidence?” he asked.
Corleon shook his head.
“Just as you said, as long as people exist in this world, you will not perish,” he said.
“Seems like you’re a bit smarter than that bastard Pegiraov,” Gluttony said. “Is it because of those eyes of yours?”
“Eyes that see the future—only one pair may exist per era. Pegiraov was that one before. And now, after Pegiraov… is it you?”
“So, you’ve seen our future?”
“In the future, will we all die?”
He asked.
“That’s too far away. So far that I cannot see that era. So far that I don’t even know if a time without you will ever come to be,” Corleon shook his head and said.
“Perhaps, even after an eternity, you will not truly vanish.”
“Just as written in the Holy Scriptures of the Lord—original sin will not disappear. As long as humans exist, so too will original sin.”
“But that is something I allow.”
“You walking upon the earth, however, is something I do not allow,” Corleon said. “So, all I must do is purify you.”
Gluttony carefully chewed over Corleon’s words. The light orb before him was nearly touching the gap in the armor.
“Do you intend to be like Pegiraov—capturing gods, turning them into Eternal Stars, to deal with us?” he asked.
Corleon merely smiled and said nothing.
“You will never succeed. We are not like them,” he said.
“The future… who can truly know it?” Corleon replied.
“Just like how you once cooperated with him—could you have known you’d end up sealed by him?”
Gluttony said no more. His rectangular pupils stared fixedly at Corleon, as if to etch his image deeply into memory.
“I shall purify this will of yours. You must feel well the sensation of being purified, and deliver that feeling to your true self, and to all those like you,” Corleon said, as the light orb penetrated the helmet.
Immediately, the towering figure trembled continuously, like a red-hot iron plunged into water. Steam gushed from the gaps in the armor.
The red glow inside the helmet gradually faded, and the steam also slowly ceased. The trembling stopped.
“Poor child, sleep well now,” Corleon said. “This too, is your final slumber.”
After speaking, he bent down and cupped the Zeda Manuscript from the ground with both hands, brushed away the dust, then took a step forward—and his figure vanished instantly, reappearing in the ravine where Landon and the others were hiding.
Startled by the sudden appearance of George, Landon widened his eyes, trembling all over as he stared at George. His lips trembled, unable to make a sound due to fear and shock.
He could recognize George’s face, but the white robe, pale golden hair, and dazzling golden pupils made him feel deeply unfamiliar.
Lying down, Igor’s eyes were dazed. He couldn’t speak, but he felt the pain in his body was subsiding—like the feeling he had before being soothed into sleep by George.
His body felt as though it were soaking in warm spring water. The stinging wounds itched within the warmth. He could feel the healing of the wounds.
Though both arms and legs still hurt, he gradually began to sense the existence of his fingertips. He could slightly move his fingers.
Corleon bestowed Blessing upon Igor, healing his wounds.
This poor child, due to George’s night-long care, had his shattered faith gather again.
His gaze turned to the cross laid beside him on the ground.
It was still stained with blood. Next to it lay six thick bloodstained iron nails.
Even though he had seen these scenes many times in Revelation, seeing them in reality made Corleon feel somewhat conflicted.
In the end, he only let out a sigh, closed his eyes, and lay down on the ground slowly, with his body straightened.
Landon blinked.
The first blink showed a bit of confusion. The second brought focus. The third, he looked at George’s body.
Then he glanced at Igor and said:
“Brother Igor, Knight George has returned. He seems a bit tired, but he said he’ll take us away from the Church Nation tomorrow, to the Church of the Sanctuary.”
“He said the Bishop will surely help you.”
Igor merely opened his eyes, his gaze struggling with confusion. But after Landon finished speaking, the confusion in his eyes faded, and a smile appeared on his face.
