Chapter 13: Chains of the Eclipsed Saint
Her lips were warm and soft, yet her kiss seared like molten flame. Each press of her mouth stole his breath, her touch drawing fire through his veins until the ache became unbearable. Her fingers traced along his chest and shoulders with the gentleness of silk and the hunger of a predator. The air around them pulsed, thick with heat and the faint echo of two heartbeats, growing more in sync with every passing moment. Every movement blurred the line between pleasure and pain, between life and death.
He was drowning in her.
Her legs coiled around his waist, pulling him closer, her body a furnace of warmth against the cold of the void. Her breath ghosted across his ear, the sound of her moan slicing through the quiet. The taste of her lips was intoxicating, sweet, venomous, divine. When she pulled back, his lungs seized with desperate need. When she kissed him again, the world vanished in fire. Her nails dug deep into his back, breaking skin, and the pain only fed the spiral. Blood welled beneath her fingers and spread warmth across his spine.
’I’m tried, I’m so tired.’
The thought barely formed before it dissolved. Tears slipped from his closed eyes, mingling with her kiss, the salt stinging between them. His heart hammered weakly, syncing very close with the beat of her own. The dark void around them shimmered faintly, as though reality itself was dissolving in the heat of their touch. All that remained was their voice, their heartbeat, the sound of their breath tangled with each other.
For a moment, it felt like surrender.
Then, through the haze, a light flickered.
At the edge of his vision, a black screen glowed faintly like static on a tv, its letters burning gold like molten metal.

The words pulsed, alive. The glow reflected in his dilated pupils. Ophilia’s lips crushed against his again, frantic now, her grip on him tightening as if she could hide the light by consuming him whole. Her hand slid up his neck, fingers curling around his throat not in cruelty, but in possession. Her whispers brushed his skin like a curse.
“Surrender to me. I’ll take away all the pain.”
The screen flared brighter, closer, its golden glow bleeding into the darkness around them.

The warmth shattered.
Ophilia froze mid-breath. Her crimson eyes widened, the faint glow within them cracking like glass. The air broke apart with a thunderclap, and the void screamed. From the endless dark, chains erupted black as obsidian, rimmed in fire-bright gold. They tore through the air, their movement accompanied by a sound like shrieking steel. Each link glowed with engraved runes that burned white-hot as they struck her wrists and ankles.
Ophilia screamed. The sound ripped through eternity, shattering the void itself.
“NO!” Her voice splintered the air, shrill and furious. Her unseen beauty twisted with rage, as the chains ripped her off Jagger’s body. Her crimson eyes widening in fury. “You dare?! You dare bind me?!”
The links tightened, glowing hotter, searing through her skin. The scent of burning filled the space a mixture of blood and ozone, sharp and metallic. Cracks splintered through the void, spilling rivers of crimson light across the black.

Her scream turned guttural, the voice of something far older than human. Her form convulsed, shifting violently, her silhouette sprouting horns, wings, a serpentine tail of shadow. The perfect woman became something monstrous. Shadows poured from her like liquid night, whipping and lashing against the chains. The void trembled, each breath she took splitting the darkness further apart.
“You dare bind me, Ophilia!” she shrieked, her voice echoing in hundreds of overlapping tones, divine and demonic. “I am the Eclipsed Saint, born from light, perfected in darkness!”
The chains burned brighter, white flames crawling along their length, eating through her darkness. The void quaked, bleeding red light like open wounds.

–
Jagger’s body hung suspended in the chaos, the storm of light and shadow tearing around him. His heart thrashed in his chest, every beat syncing to the words flashing across the air. Ophilia’s form writhed, her body shifting between woman and beast, the air rippling and distorting around her.
“You cannot do this to me!” she roared, her voice shaking the air. “This body belongs to me!”
The void ruptured. Light poured through the cracks like golden fire, and a new screen appeared, blazing across the emptiness.

–
“What?!” Ophilia screamed, her words breaking apart as the runes along the chains surged with new light. The golden illumination lanced through her body, transforming the air around her into a storm of fractured color.
From below, the void exploded in radiance. Spears of pure energy erupted upward, forming into towering poles of light that connected, joining into bars. They bent and curved, weaving themselves into a golden cage that sealed the void around her.
“NO!” she howled, voice cracking into despair. “I will not be imprisoned! I am your salvation!”
The chains coiled tighter, pulling her arms and legs taut. Her body hung suspended, locked midair, as the chains trembling under the weight of her power.
A final chain slithered through the air, coiling around her throat. It solidified into a collar, its metal surface covered in glowing runes. She thrashed against it, the shadows of her power writhing. But it did not break.
She screamed, a shriek that split through realms, echoing in eternity as the collar tightened against her neck. The chains shuddered, struggling, burning.

The golden light convulsed and folded inward, swallowing everything in a single radiant implosion. The air or what passed for it, screamed as the world inverted. Jagger’s body was caught in the collapse, pulled downward through spiraling streaks of molten color and darkness. The last thing he saw Ophilia’s crimson eyes filled with fury and panic. Those burning, ruby orbs glared at him as the golden bars sealed around her, light and shadow splitting her face in half.
Then, she was gone.
He fell through her scream, through the collapsing void, through a torrent of collapsing stars. Light turned to dark. The warmth to cold. The fall felt endless.
And then he hit reality.
It wasn’t a landing, it was impact.
Air rushed into his lungs with a violent gasp. His eyes flew open, entire chest seized as if stabbed from the inside out. He jerked upright, body convulsing, heaving, choking. His hands scrambled against the ground, as the sensation of gravity hit him like a punishment.
The ruined pharmacy surrounded him once more, the sharp scent of rot, dust, and iron flooding his nose. Every breath burned. Every heartbeat felt like it shook his ribs. He was on all fours now, sweat and blood slicking his arms, saliva and bile dripping from his mouth in trembling strings.
He clawed at the ground, dragging himself forward, nails screeching against the fractured tile. His arms trembled violently, his body unsure how to exist again. The world was too loud. The fluorescent light flickered overhead, humming with static. Every sound scraped at his nerves, the soft clink of broken glass, the metallic drip of blood hitting the floor, his own ragged breathing echoing back at him.
He felt flayed, like someone had torn him apart and stitched him back together with pain. His skin burned hot, his veins pulsed as if fire flowed through them. His heart thundered so loudly it was almost deafening.
Tears leaked from his eyes, cutting tracks down the grime on his face. The taste of blood sat bitter on his tongue. His mind reeled, torn between two realities, one that was gone and one that was too real to bear.
A voice came, calm and gentle.
“Hey… it’s okay. You’re safe now.”
