Chapter 66: Slow and Steady
However, Su Ye noticed that Rolon’s gaze was peculiar.
Rolon gave Su Ye a look and signaled for him to leave the classroom. Then, he stood up and walked out.
Su Ye immediately turned around and slowly trod around in the corridor.
Soon, Rolon, who had a sword in his left hand and a spear in his right hand, caught up with Su Ye and whispered, “You’ve been in the limelight recently. Try to keep a low-profile. Be slow and steady.” After saying that, he quickly walked away as though he was rushing to do something else.
Su Ye didn’t seem to hear him. He continued strolling while thinking –
It seemed that Rolon knew something, but what he knew was limited, so he could only remind Su Ye in such a way. If Hutton was going to make a move, it was not worth it for Rolon to remind him. If Lawrence was about to make a move, Kaerton would definitely inform Su Ye as soon as possible. Therefore, the only people left, who had crossed paths with Rolon and had conflicts with Su Ye, were those nobles.
Before the match yesterday, Su Ye had already predicted this outcome, so he deliberately acted friendly and didn’t show too much hostility towards the nobles. However, even if he had offended the nobles, he wouldn’t regret it. If he hadn’t offended the nobles yesterday, he wouldn’t have had the Magic Surge and acquired the Magic Eagle’s Eye. More importantly, he wouldn’t have garnered the attention of the upper echelons in the academy. Compared to those two great benefits, offending the nobles was no big deal.
However, the nobles had always been vicious. They hadn’t changed since ancient times. He must be careful. The Masters of Plato Academy should have some slight interest in him now. Hence, the nobles would not assault him directly. As long as he was careful, nothing major would happen. At most, he would suffer a little. When he found the opportunity, he would get his payback, with interest and the spoils of war!
Sigh… Commoners like him might face unexpected dangers regardless of what kinds of achievements they had. In order to protect themselves and their achievements, they had to take some steps. Because of this, they would instead be regarded as extremists by others. As for the nobles, they had never faced any obstacles in life since young. The power they could mobilize far surpassed that of ordinary people. Even if they were clearly far more destructive than commoners, they would still be praised by others because no one knew of their evil schemes.
It was very negative of him to think like this. He should think about it from a different perspective. It was precisely because commoners like him encountered more external stimuli and received more feedback that they were not numb to the things around them. That was why they were able to keenly discover the changes in this world. That was why they could better follow the trends of the times, continue to grow, and continue to get better! All external forces were pushing him to improve! Then, he could kill those nobles who had harmed him!
Su Ye smiled, turning around to return to the classroom.
Hort held the magic book in his hands and looked eagerly at Su Ye.
This time, the two of them directly left the classroom and went to the empty lawn outside. They exchanged findings as they took a walk.
Compared to yesterday, Su Ye added two more segments to their learning session. The first segment added was that for each topic that Su Ye had finished explaining, Hort had to come up with a question for him.
The second segment was Su Ye posting a question for Hort to answer. If Hort could not answer on the spot, the question would become his homework. Hort would have to answer it through Magic Message before the next day.
Hort enjoyed the new segments very much. Su Ye also liked them because the question Hort asked would make him think and he would be able to identify his own blind spot in this way.
When Su Ye came up with a question, he would be able to examine the topic from a higher and more comprehensive perspective. It was very useful for his own improvement too.
This was a slow learning method. It was inefficient even in the long run, but it was extremely valuable.
The bell rang and the two returned to the classroom.
Most of the students looked at the two of them with somewhat contradictory gazes. They found it hard to believe the two of them, since their results last semester were horrible. They wanted to say that they didn’t have faith in the two of them, but Su Ye’s performance on the field yesterday was too outstanding. It was as though he was a completely different person.
Only very few people still insisted that the two of them were wasting their efforts.
Su Ye had just sat down when someone suddenly patted his shoulder. He turned around and saw that it was Jimmy.
Jimmy grinned and said, “Su Ye, you’re keeping secrets. You impressed everyone on the field yesterday with your skills. You surely have a special method. You can’t just teach it to Hort. You’ve to teach it to me too.”
Su Ye smiled and replied, “The two of us are just learning from each other. We’re exchanging and sharing information. There’s no such thing as a student-teacher relationship between the two of us.”
“Is that so? Then, can I join your sharing session? I don’t have much time, probably only once or twice a day,” Jimmy said.
“No problem. I’ve always thought that exchanging information with others can promote everyone’s growth. When sharing, the more you talk, the more you gain,” Su Ye said.
“Okay! Shall we study together after the evening self-study session?” Jimmy asked.
“Alright.” Su Ye smiled.
Lake, Albert and Rolon looked at Jimmy. They were deep in thought.
Albert muttered, “Hehe, he’s starting to suck up to Su Ye.”
Jimmy seemed to have not heard him at all. He sat down beside Rolon and opened his magic book.
Hort whispered to Su Ye, “You’re the one who taught me.”
Su Ye smiled and did not explain himself.
In his opinion, there was no such thing as teaching, only learning and exchanging information.
Teaching was only a means; learning was his real goal and growth was his need.
Time passed day by day. The aftereffects of the competition gradually died down.
Su Ye entered a stable period of learning. He slept at midnight almost every day and woke up at six in the morning. After meditating for ten minutes, he briefly revised the notes from the day before. Then, he walked or jogged to the academy.
In the morning, he would either study by himself or use the Feynman technique to study with Hort.
He listened attentively to most of the lessons. At noon, he meditated, ate, and studied. Then, he continued his classes in the afternoon.
In the last self-study session, he would either study the crucial subjects, do his homework, or study with Hort. Occasionally, Jimmy would join them.
Lake would once in a while join in their study group too. He had unique insights and would often point out the key points right away, which benefited Su Ye and Hort a lot.
After the self-study session, Su Ye and Hort would have a meal together and have another round of study. After that, Su Ye would go home while Hort would go to the arena to practice.
When he returned home, Su Ye used all kinds of methods to learn. The learning process was both an enjoyment and an agony for him.
Occasionally, when Su Ye was too tired, he would neither fixate over the struggles nor deny or question himself. Instead, he would practice magic and seek satisfaction from it.
He learned with different ways when he was in different settings, allowing different parts of his brain to take turns resting or working.
As Su Ye used deliberate practice in the process of practicing the Magic Rope, he managed to thoroughly comprehend everything about it in just half a month’s time. He could complete the casting in two seconds. With the addition of Magic Surge, he could complete it in one second.
Not only that, Su Ye’s understanding of incantations and magic continued to deepen as he studied.
A month’s time passed by in a flash and Su Ye completed the plan he had set earlier than he expected.
Su Ye had first made up for the most important subjects from the previous semester. Not only had he completed the Greek language, Mathematics, and Geometry, which were in his plan, but he had also finished last year’s Arts, Greek History, and World History. His results of the last three lessons were not that good, but he could at least pass them easily.
Among all the courses in the new semester, the five courses which were included in Su Ye’s initial plan – Magic, Talent, History of Magic, Sacrificial Rites, and Meditation – had been Su Ye’s main focus. He had completely mastered these subjects and he had even secretly compared himself with Lake. He was not any weaker even when compared to Lake. In fact, his understanding in some areas that required extensive comprehension even surpassed that of Lake’s.
