Zhao Xiaohui glanced at her and said mysteriously, “My Little Lan’s *actual* big day isn’t until next year! You’ll see what we get for her then.”

Zhou Chunlan was left speechless. She hurried over to Lin Guohui’s side and grumbled under her breath, “Just look at that. Look at *her* sister-in-law. Your sister doesn’t even measure up to a fraction of Little Lan.”

Lin Guohui’s face was grim. “She’s just trying to get a rise out of you. Why do you even bother talking to her so much?”

Zhou Chunlan glanced at Lin Changyou, who was walking up ahead with his hands behind his back, then shot her husband a glare and stopped talking to him.

The group reached the river embankment, where the path was flatter, and they were able to pick up their pace.

When they reached the ferry crossing, Wu Shufen’s second sister, Wu Shuqin, was already waiting there with a fifteen or sixteen-year-old girl and Lin Guoliang’s maternal uncle, Wu Jiafu.

Wu Shuqin looked a bit like her sister, Wu Shufen. Wu Jiafu was tall, with an oval face and a somewhat dark complexion.

Lin Changyou stepped forward with a smile. “Jiafu, Shuqin, when did you get here?”

The group crossed on the ferry and arrived in Dashiqiao Town to see the bus already pulling out of the station.

Li Hongmei slid open a window. Seeing it was Lin Guoliang and his group, she said, “There’s plenty of room. Get your things on board.”

Lin Guodong nodded happily. “You got it! Thanks, Sister Li.”

The two brothers loaded the five bamboo baskets onto the bus. Li Hongmei took out her ticket book. “Guoliang, are all of you together?”

Zhou Chunlan shot Lin Guoliang a resentful look. “The richer he gets, the stingier he is. What’s the big deal with buying two more tickets?”

Lin Changyou’s group walked through an alley and onto a tractor path. Gazing at the boundless fields of rapeseed and the houses lining the path, Wu Jiafu sighed, “The areas around the city are really nicer. Even the houses are better than ours back home.”
