Chapter 140: Becoming a Templar?

A different kind of silence now pervaded.

A much heavier silence…

Nero closed his eyes so he would not see those blank yet knowineyes anymore. Eyes that were blind but felt like they could see through him in his entirety.

He darkened not make use of any of his skills lest they suspect him. If that happened, it would be rather difficult trying to explain himself out of that mess.

Slowly, the White Prophet retreated,

“Fists are powerful, but the eyes and the mind are a man’s most powerful weapons. Would you agree, Nero?”

Strut huffed, “Enough of that, Sir Gilleon. This kid is a student of a student of mine.”

The White Prophet, Sir Gilleon didn’t seem very interested in what Strut had to say. His gaze hidden by his mask, was fixed right on Nero.

Left with no other choice, Nero answered with the first thing that came to his mind.

“They are both equally as important and as useless.”

Silence…

Then Sir Gilleon chuckled.

He turned to Commander Strut,

“I like this kid.”

Nero grimaced, ’No, don’t like me!’

Gilleon folded his arms,

“It will be a much better fate for him to fall into my hands. Besides, all you are going to do is send him into the wilderness to die.”

Commander Strut snorted,

“Like the fate he will suffer at your hands is any better.”

Nero’s grimace turned uglier with each passing second.

The entire situation was just very odd and strange. What made it even stranger, was the fact that he could not even see their faces.

However, from their conversation, he could now tell with certainty that they were human. And probably rather close too.

He couldn’t quite sense any overwhelming I’ll intent from either of them, which made his frazzled nerves calm down quite a bit.

Strut sighed then turned to Nero,

“When all this has been handled and you enter the city, come find me at Church. I believe you have what it takes to pass the tests and become a true Templar of the Church.”

Nero blinked.

He hesitated for a moment, not knowing what to say.

Contrary to what most would believe, he was one of the overwhelming few that had absolutely no desires or intentions to become something as gran as a Templar.

Hell, if he was presented with the offer, he would want to decline it as much as he possibly could.

“I believe such an opportunity would be wasted on me, Sir. I have no qualifications. Someone like me cannot possibly be a fit.”

You are right.” Commander Strut agreed, “But I can whip you to shape in no time.”

Nero pursed his lips,

“This… I don’t think that’s a good idea.”

Strut then cleared his throat,

“So it has been settled then. You’ll be given a reward for your valiant efforts. You may leave.”

’He’s not listening to me.’ Nero came to a very wise conclusion.

He sighed internally. In the end, his opinions didn’t matter at all.

He was destined to be a little pawn in the game of others, from the looks of it.

However, he didn’t mind for as long as it served his interests for the time.

Still, becoming a Templar sounded a bit extreme. If that happened, how the hell was he supposed to fuel his need for Abomination flesh?

’I’ll think about that some other time.’. He thought as he turned around and left the tent after giving a parting gesture.

When the Commander and the Prophet were left alone, Strut let out a sigh and placed his hands on his helmet, taking it off to reveal a very normal but aging face. His eyes were a soft blue like the color of an unsullied lake.

There was a scar running from his left brow all the way to the right side of his top lip. Despite that, it didn’t really do much to take away from the Commander’s calm demeanor.

He ran a gloved hand through his brown beards and huffed.

Gilleon the Prophet chuckled as he also took off his cloth mask.

His eyes were gray. He really was blind.

However, if one looked closer, they would guess that the color of those eyes must have been very vibrant once upon a time.

His hair was the color of sunlight, and a vibrant smile that seemed brighter than the world hung on his lips.

He was also an older man, perhaps the same age as Commander Strut.

“What a strange kid. He reminds me of Esker.”

Commander Strut chuckled, “If that old bat hears your words, he’ll tear out your spine.”

A strange light appeared in Gilleon’s eyes,

“He is very very strange.”

He paused. His next words were rather terrifying,

“The beings that dwell in the planes different from ours. Those evil, vile entities see things that elude the mortal eyes. We won are blessed with the gift of sight can see what they see.”

Strut frowned, “Then you mean they can’t see the kid?”

Gilleon shook his head, “No. That’s not it. The reason I can’t see what the kid truly is, might be that I simply am not powerful enough.”

Strut raised a brow in disbelief,

“What the hell are you saying?”

However, the serious expression on Gilleon’s face told him that his companion wasn’t joking around.

“The kid is special. However, it remains to be seen if that special is a good thing or a bad thing. Being special can attract dangerous attention, after all.”

Strut clicked his tongue,

“You don’t have to worry. The kid will be under my protection.”

Gilleon chuckled, “You are getting old, Strut. There is little you are capable of.”

Strut snorted, “I am still as Viril as a horse, damn it!”

Gilleon chuckled,

“Still, there are far more important things to attend to. Excuse me for a moment.”

Gilleon placed the cloth mask back on his face.

Strut frowned as he watched Gilleon’s head tilt to the side as he became limp.

Two bright beams of light began to radiate from the cloth mask. A moment later, Gilleon’s lips began to move as he whispered inaudibly below his breath.

Strut turned his gaze away.

Things like that… It was best not to listen or even look upon them for too long lest whatever higher entity noticed him.
