Nero clicked his tongue and quickly swallowed the last morsel of food in his hands before licking his fingers clean.

“Is it really that impressive?”

Lucy chuckled as she threw back a swing from a small metal bottle he had never seen before,

“The walls and the cities were created as the last bastion. The walls of Liedenstorm were built by the third God of the Storms and Wind— Lieden of the North Sky to keep something within the City. Something that keeps the hallowed thing within the Field of Skulls at bay. No one besides the elders of the Church know what it is though.”

Nero curiously turned to Aisha who was done eating her meal rather nearly, now drinking from a waterskin.

Seeing Nero’s eager gaze, Aisha sighed then glared at Lucy,

“Making him curious will do no good.”

Lucy cackled then snorted as she leaned back on the tree behind her,

“Isn’t it human to be curious?

She grinned then nudged Nero slightly,

“See? Your girlfriend is rather selfish, isn’t she? Why not come over to this sister and I’ll take care of—”

Aisha rose to her feet shockingly fast then moved right to Nero’s side, shocking him quite a bit as well.

Her expression was serious and a bit dark,

“The Adam’s Light.”

Lucy sat up, a look of intrigue on her face,

“I thought that was just a myth.”

Aisha shook her head,

“It’s real.”

She turned to Nero,

“But no one knows what it is, or how it looks. But it does exist. And it is what powers the walls of Liedenstorm.”

Nero frowned, “I see.”

’Oracle, do you know what this Adam’s Light is?’

Nero clicked his tongue.

It had been three days since he had killed Garrick.

The entire ordeal leading up to that had been rather strange. At that moment, his mind had felt both slow and fast-paced.

Still, in those three days, the small group of himself, Obed, Geor, Aisha and Lucy had gotten a fair bit closer.

Sure, the previous days of anguish and pain could not be wiped away, but at least they were better.

They stuck to the paths least likely to have Abominations whilst they treated their wounds.

With the help of Vineheart, most of his more serious injuries had already begun healing, so he wasn’t too much in a bad ways.

However, Geor and Obed had it really bad. Obed’s left arm had been broken in multiple places by Garrick, while Geor seemed to have suffered much of the same with just his case being slightly better.

Seeing Obed sulking in a corner really brought it to perspective for him

For one, it was practically guaranteed that he would not be able to continue his profession as a Hunter.

After all, Hunters needed to be able to work and fight with both hands. Those with physical disabilities living on the streets of Liedenstorm and many other cities due to suffering heavy injuries were bound to be fairly more than a handful.

Geor didn’t seem to be in it for the Hunter life, so Nero didn’t think he was that bothered by a few broken bones. Besides, the huge man was rather sturdy.

Nero contemplated if giving Obed a Divine Elixir would be a good idea.

After all, if he did, his broke arm would be healed in the blink of an eye. In exchange, however, he would be revealing another secret that should have been kept with him.

With what he had seen from Garrick, he wasn’t willing to take the chance. And so, he decided not to say or do anything.

What would be, was bound to happen.

He turned his attention back to Aisha,

“What do you think Adam’s Light is?”

Aisha seems to ponder about it for a moment,

“There is some speculation… It might be a mystical item created by the most Divine One. One of the first things ever created. Some say it might now even be physical. It might be a spirit being. Who knows.” She said with a shrug.

Lucy snorted and said,

“Rumor has it that those who see Adam’s Light die instantly.”

Nero trembled and said with a wry chuckle, “Surely, that is just an exaggeration.”

Silence…

When he looked up and glanced at their faces, he found they were not laughing.

Lucy sighed,

“I wish it was mere jokes, kid. Unfortunately, stuff like that happens far too often.”

Nero grimaced, “You mean…”

Lucy nodded, “There is reason to some of the Church’s laws. Some things are just not meant to be known, seen, or touched by us humans.”

Nero trembled again, wondering why he had been so lucky. The ruins of the Elkerlings should have been festering grounds for corruption. And it had been.

And yet, most of the items he had encountered within it had been fine. Most of the knowledge he had gained had been without a trace of madness.

It was a bit suspicious.

He sighed and shook his head.

In any case, it seemed like he had a lot to learn.

The glanced to the side and watched Obed and Geor chatter in hushed voices for a minute.

Then Obed rose to his feet and walked over,

“There’s good news and there’s bad news.”

Lucy raised a brow, “What’s the good news?” She ashed.

“We’ll get back on track tomorrow. If all goes well, we should be seeing Liedenstorm’s walls in a day or less.”

After traveling for three days, then had finally found their way back to civilization.

Nero clenched his fists slightly.

The city…

The greatest fear of living in the towns was the degree of exposure to the outside world. These towns are easily attacked by the horrors that dwell in the world.

But the cities were meant to be bastions of safety. And yet, recently, he had just learned there were a lot of scary things happening there.

He huffed, ’This really is going to be a lot of fun.’

Nero turned to Obed,

“So? What’s the bad news?”

Obed’s grimace spoke of nothing good as his lips parted…
