—————————————
Third Person POV
Arctic, 298 AC.
—————————————
Jon arrived at the castle, walking briskly straight toward one of the rooms, finding his wives and children gathered in the corridor.
“Jon?!” Daenerys called out as soon as she saw him.
“I’m coming…” he said, rushing past them. “I’ll be back soon.” That was all he said, heading toward one of the rooms guarded by royal guards. As he entered the place, he found a group of women crowded around the bed, with Seryna at the side of the woman groaning in pain.
It was Hiyori who was giving birth, her labor had come a bit earlier than expected and Jon had been working in the forges. As soon as he found out, she was being taken to the room while he rushed to the castle to see his child being born.
He approached Seryna’s side. “You’re due to give birth in a few moons, leave this to me while I handle the rest, this stressful environment won’t be good for you.” Jon said to his queen, as she nodded, giving one last look at Hiyori, then looking at Jon.
Seryna left and Jon took Hiyori’s hand. She certainly had many issues with her fertility — first, she was infertile, and Jon managed to restore that. She, who had been devastated to learn she couldn’t be a mother, was overwhelmed with emotion, but Jon had noticed other problems during the pregnancy, which required special care, even asking the children of the forest to watch over her when possible.
She had a face of pain, feeling something worse than usual, while she looked at him with a certain relief for him being there. Jon quickly began to use his magic on her belly to ease the delivery, with the midwives quickly working.
In the next half hour, with Jon’s help — otherwise, it would have been hours of labor — a boy was finally born. He was handed to Jon, wrapped in a cloth, after Jon had taken care of any wounds Hiyori might have had.
“He’s a healthy boy.” Jon said, rocking him in his arms while the mother practically begged to hold him. Jon then brought him to her as she looked at the boy with half-open jade eyes. His hair was black, just like his parents’.
“What should you name him?” Hiyori asked Jon. In her Yi-Ti culture, it was the father who gave the name, and only at birth, upon seeing the baby, should he choose the name for him.
“Daemon.” Jon said. Even though the name was somewhat cursed in Westeros due to the Daemons who had existed, especially Daemon Blackfyre, it was still a name Jon felt the boy should have, because he would be a strong, adventurous, and fearless man — that was what Jon felt upon seeing him.
He did not choose an eastern name, but a Valyrian one. After all, Daemon is an arctican and his place would always be this land as Jon’s son, and he also didn’t want to differentiate his son from the others.
Jon stayed with Hiyori a while longer as she was placed in another bed, with her family arriving shortly after, full of curious children wanting to meet their new brother.
Hiyori continued breastfeeding her son while they had dinner. Val was also there — she had ended up interacting more with the family after Jon talked to her, and she seemed to be making an effort, even though she felt strange every morning, being surrounded by children with Jon or Maester Aemon teaching them to read and write.
“Daddy…” Loki called him as Jon looked at his eldest son.
“What is it?” Jon asked.
“Benjen told me you’re working on armor for Eragon…” he murmured, wanting to know more.
“That’s true, I’m replacing the Eldenmetal armor with one made of Valyrian steel. The plan is to shield Eragon’s entire body.” Jon replied, after all, he had spent an entire week inside the forges, preparing his dragon for war and even for his encounter with Cannibal.
“But he’s so big! That’s so cool!” Loki seemed thrilled about it. He already knew the value of Valyrian steel, dreaming of having his own sword like his father had Blackfyre and all the royal guards. All weapons were named, and he loved always trying to guess the names of the 98 royal guards stationed in Arctic, with two still in the south protecting Arya.
Even his mother, Seryna, had a hammer and armor of Valyrian steel, so Loki was quite eager to have his as well.
“Yes… once I finish making the armor even lighter with ancient runic symbols, nothing in the world will stop Eragon while he’s wearing that armor.” Jon said, while Loki and his other children, sharing the same knowledge as their older brother, had a sparkle appear in their eyes.
Jon had canceled the new forges to dedicate all the Valyrian steel to creating Eragon’s armor, which should be equivalent to two full forges of Valyrian steel. He already had three forges working on the metal’s production, placing the dragons on Dragon Mountain to work in the two forges there, rotating them to avoid exhaustion, while Jon controlled all their movements himself. He also worked with Eragon in the king’s forge in the city, producing the highest number of Valyrian steel ingots.
“Can I go with you tomorrow, dad?!” Loki immediately asked, wanting to see his father working, but Jon shook his head.
“It’s too dangerous for you to come with me, Loki.” Jon warned, drawing a sad look from his son, knowing he couldn’t argue with his father, who was firm when he said yes or no.
Jon often heard his children insisting on things — and still did — since they were reaching ages where they wanted to do everything. But Jon had always been firm in not allowing anything he couldn’t do with them. Sometimes he wondered if he was being too harsh, but he was also a king and always needed to be firm and inflexible in his decisions. That’s why he was very clear with the yes and no he gave to his princes. They also had to learn that from him. The mothers were a bit more flexible, and Jon thought the dynamic was good, but his word was always final in any situation.
“But we can fly with Eragon in the next few days.” Jon said, drawing stunned looks from everyone at that moment, even Seryna and the others raising an eyebrow at him.
“We can fly on Eragon?!” Lyanna shouted upon hearing that.
“Jon… isn’t that a bit too much?” Ygritte murmured.
“The older ones are ready… it’s just one flight, and I’ll take one at a time, they’ll be safe.” Jon decided then and there to take the children for their first flight in the sky, while their own dragons would still take a few more years before finally being able to fly.
“I want to fly!” Loki shouted joyfully, and Jon nodded.
The next day, he went to the king’s forge, controlling the dragons in the south of Arctic while they worked in the other forges with the dwarves replenishing the steel to turn it into the magical steel of Valyria, while the flames of the young dragons were cast into the forge, transforming the metal.
Jon hadn’t brought Loki along because, beyond being dangerous, he needed his full concentration. He worked within Eragon’s flames to create more and more metal, with the dragon positioned atop the structure. People in the artisan district could see the massive white body there—a sight that had become almost common in the past week, though still a curious one.
“I think it’s good enough…” Jon finally finished in the late afternoon after spending the entire day inside to complete the perfect amount needed to start making the plates for Eragon. He hadn’t even had lunch or eaten anything.
As he returned home, first seeking a bath after spending the whole day in the midst of flames, he found Daenerys waiting for him with a cake in her hand.
“Your guards told me you didn’t eat anything all day, so I made this for you.” she said, and Jon smiled.
He took the cake and ate a piece right there with his hand. “It’s great. I’ll eat the rest after a bath.” he said as she nodded, covering the cake with a cloth.
Jon took a quick bath and returned to the company of his Valyrian wife before Ygritte came looking for him.
“Jon! You need to help me find Lyanna!” she murmured with urgent concern as Jon raised an eyebrow.
“What do you mean?” Jon asked.
“I can’t find her anywhere.” Ygritte murmured, knowing her daughter could sneak into any place and get into trouble.
“Let me see.” Jon said, quickly tapping into the memories of the animals within the castle. The last sighting of Lyanna was her entering Ygritte’s own room.
“She was in your room…” Jon murmured.
“I just left there, she’s not inside.” Ygritte said, and Jon stood to accompany her, excusing himself to Daenerys as they headed to his red-haired wife’s room.
Jon entered the room with Ygritte coming in behind.
“She’s not here.” Ygritte murmured, seeing the room empty.
“No, she’s here… when I got near the door, I heard the sound of her running. She’s hiding.” Jon commented as he analyzed the space, before pointing to the dirt on the floor.
“Is that…?” Ygritte looked around the room, finding no sign of Lyanna, while also glancing at the mess Jon pointed to.
“It’s ash… from the fireplace.” Jon said, then looked at the fireplace burning with wood, his eyes widening.
“Lyanna!?” Ygritte nearly screamed at the sight of the fireplace, as a child’s laughter came from it.
“Lyanna…” Even Jon seemed stunned.
“Lyanna!” With a shout, Ygritte immediately rushed forward, when Lyanna’s head emerged from the flames, laughing. Jon stopped her from getting close.
“Wait! She’s not being hurt by the fire, but you’ll burn. Wait, Ygritte.” Jon held her back, and she seemed to heed her husband’s reason, stopping but covering her mouth, still terrified.
“She’s fine… she’s like me.” Jon murmured, approaching the hearth where her head appeared among the flames—where there shouldn’t even be oxygen—but he was like that too. He knelt, looking at his daughter.
“How did you discover you were immune to fire?” Jon asked. He hadn’t done any tests on the children to know if they had his resistance, thinking they were still too young.
“I heard daddy goes into the flames to forge when he works. I wanted to do the same. The fire doesn’t hurt me, it’s warm and feels nice. Besides, it’s a great hiding place!” she said, laughing, while Ygritte remained stunned behind Jon.
“Wanted to do the same, huh?” Jon sighed upon hearing that from his daughter. He turned back to Ygritte. “Get some clothes for her, she’s naked after the flames burned hers.” Jon said while Ygritte, still staring at their daughter for a few seconds, finally nodded and went to fetch some clothes.
“You can’t do things like this and not tell anyone. Your mother could’ve gotten burned if I hadn’t been here to stop her.” Jon spoke with a certain calm, and Lyanna nodded.
“I didn’t want to hurt mommy…” she murmured.
“You should let us know about these things… it can prevent accidents, and you can always talk to daddy, understood?” Jon said as Ygritte returned.
Jon helped Lyanna out of the flames, wrapping a towel around her and asking Ygritte to give her a bath. Brandon came shortly after looking for his mother and sister, and Jon picked him up and found Val to talk.
He spent that night with Rhaenys and their children, with Jaehaerys crawling between them when they went to sleep. Jon didn’t have any sexual activity with Rhaenys, as they had decided to spend the night with their two children, with Visenya staying in her crib.
The next day, Jon gave an exclusive lesson to his children, wanting to teach them some new things, with Val participating.
He had left the dwarves working on the creation of the plates, as they might be skilled enough to handle Valyrian steel, using the same molds from Eragon’s first armor made of Eldenmetal.
He spent the day with his children and finally summoned Eragon to the castle courtyard, this time with a saddle, picking up Loki first and placing him in front.
The boy was very excited, and Jon would do this one at a time, while Eragon took off carefully with the nearly four-nameday-old boy, flying into the sky past the Great Weirwood’s trunk and soaring over the city. Loki looked at Arctic for the first time from a full view of the kingdom, laughing as he felt the thrill and nerves of flying with a view of his home as a whole.
Jon was happy to see this from his son, smiling at the boy laughing while he kept him secure in front of him.
They flew for a few minutes before returning to the castle, with Loki constantly asking to keep flying, clearly thrilled.
“We’ve got your siblings to fly too, we can do this again later, but be careful — your dragons will surely be jealous.” Jon laughed as Loki nodded, already hoping his father would take him again.
Jon took Lyanna, Jaehaerys, and even Brandon, flying the same route with each of them. Brandon was the most fearful of the siblings as they rose into the sky atop Eragon, but Jon kept him safe.
When they returned, he looked at his wives, seeing the children coming down from the dragon, laughing. Even Benjen appeared in the courtyard, looking at Jon with admiration in his eyes for the dragon, having watched him fly all morning over Arctic.
Jon then looked at Daenerys holding Aegon in her arms. “Do you want to come?” he asked, and though she hesitated a little, she agreed.
She handed Aegon to Seryna to watch over and climbed onto the dragon, flying with her husband — something they did quite often every month, as Daenerys, like Rhaenys, loved flying with Jon and couldn’t wait for their dragons to grow enough for it.
They flew just as he had with the children and returned with the whole family sitting in the garden, while the kids laughed and played as Eragon came back with their father.
Jon took Rhaenys and even a hesitant Ygritte for a flight as well, taking advantage of the fact that everyone was doing it. He only didn’t do the same with Hiyori, not wanting to push something like that, sensing a bit of fear from her as she had just given birth two days ago and was still breastfeeding the baby boy.
Jon was taking his turn with Seryna, his hand resting on her belly. He wanted his unborn child to already feel the thrill of soaring through the skies on a dragon, while Eragon took special care with her in his movements, making sure not to jostle the baby in her womb.
Jon looked at the last woman who hadn’t flown. “Come on, Val, your turn.” he said, picking up the blonde, with Lyanna in his arms, catching her by surprise.
“Me?!” Val looked at Jon strangely, not expecting it, while he insisted. She finally agreed, climbing the rope ladder beside the saddle, looking somewhat hesitant.
“Relax… haven’t you ever imagined flying through the sky before?” Jon asked with a smile.
“I didn’t expect to do it today.” she murmured, hoping she wouldn’t regret it, as Jon adjusted her in front of him, pushing her backside toward him while she looked at him but said nothing. Jon just smiled, knowing she was enjoying it.
They flew into the sky the next moment, while Val looked frightened, but Jon kept her close as the dragon made its curve around the great Weirwood and circled the city, taking in the view.
They flew for a while, and Jon returned sometime later with Val, who had genuinely enjoyed the experience.
Jon went on to take his children again, as they asked for more rides, finishing everything by mid-afternoon. He then requested a hearty meal for Eragon, who had spent the whole day flying without complaint, and he went to eat something too, since he hadn’t stopped to eat much himself.
“Jon… can we talk?” his uncle approached at that moment as Jon put Brandon down after the flight and nodded.
“Of course, dine with us tonight, and we’ll talk after.” Jon said as they headed back to the castle, dined, and Jon later met his uncle atop one of the castle towers, where he liked to watch the city illuminated by crystal stones.
“I want to stay.” Benjen said, making Jon raise an eyebrow.
“You want to stay for the war?” Jon asked.
“Yes, if you’ll allow me, I’d like to help you in this fight… I don’t want to stay at the Wall while you’re out there battling all those things.” Benjen spoke seriously.
“Write a letter, stating your request to Jeor Mormont. I’ve fulfilled my word to him. If he agrees, you’ll stay here and fight with us.” Jon said. It was time for Benjen and the other rangers to return to the Wall, but after seeing those things, he wanted to help Jon.
He now understood what the true oath of the Night’s Watch meant — not about wildlings crossing the Wall, but about white walkers and the Long Night. What kind of man upholding that oath would he be if he turned away now? And what kind of brother would he be to his beloved Lya if he turned his back on the son she left behind?
Jon talked a bit more with Benjen, setting things in motion while Benjen would write the letter and Jon would send the raven to Castle Black.
He also received a letter from Winterfell the next day, caught by surprise as Arya shared news — speaking of the direwolves found over a week ago, and of the ranger named Will who had returned to the Wall, alerting everyone about the dead and the king’s visit.
“Do you think she’ll be alright?” Seryna asked as she read the letter, having spent the night with Jon. He had handed her Arya’s letter to read as well.
“I hope so… I’ll be south of the Wall in a few days… and if I see anything being done to Arya by those conspirators sneaking into Winterfell, I’ll fly there the very next moment and kill them all.” Jon said with a cold tone, as Seryna placed her hand on his shoulder.
“I know… but everything will be fine. Arya is a very strong girl — you trained her yourself, and she has two royal guards with her and 300 Unsullied.” she said, and Jon nodded.
“I’m more worried about you facing a dragon that’s been alive for over two centuries…” she added.
“We’ll deal with him…” Jon said confidently.
“Just come back alive, Jon.” she murmured as they went to eat with the rest of the family.
Jon returned to his duties while the dragon plates were being forged by the dwarves in Valyrian steel. Jon would personally begin applying magical runes to them, to finalize the armor that Eragon would wear in the upcoming battle against Cannibal, as the confrontation drew near.
In the south, the king’s enormous entourage was finally beginning to approach Winterfell.
