As they approached the dining hall, Ruby quickened her pace and came up beside Isaac, a stack of documents held neatly in her arms.

“Lord, these are the reports. I’ve estimated the time and funds needed to rebuild the damaged infrastructure,” she said, handing them over.

Alice’s fingers tightened around the cutlery placed beside her dessert. The metal bent slightly under her grip.

“You’re not dying,” Selene said, tears already pooling in her eyes. “You’re not.”

The memories of the previous day’s battle were still vivid. The sheer scale of destruction, the helplessness they had all felt, had forced a painful realization on both father and daughter.

They were weak.

Compared to the beings who clashed above their city, they were fragile enough to disappear in an instant.

“You’re not dying,” Selene repeated. “I—”

Alice interrupted, her voice firm. “I won’t let you die. I can protect you. I’m a Saintess.”

She stopped herself just short of saying more. There were things she couldn’t reveal yet. Like her skill.

“I’ll protect both of you,” she finished.

Chairman Lucius smiled at her, a genuine, grateful smile.
