When Lu Xiao got home, Cecilia’s eyes lit up at the sight of the cake box in her hands. “Did my sweet granddaughter bring her grandmother another treat?”

“We agreed, just one small piece. We’ll save the rest to eat over the next few days. I’m going to give the rest to the butler and have him keep an eye on you. We can’t have a repeat of last time, with you getting up in the middle of the night to sneak a bite!”

It wasn’t her usual time to get off work yet.

Lu Xiao sighed and explained what had happened. Cecilia wasn’t entirely surprised. “You just hadn’t run into this sort of thing before. It’s good that you have now. There will probably be a lot more of it in the future, so you should be mentally prepared.”

Lu Xiao nodded. “I know. As what’s happening at the sanctuary becomes more public, it’s only natural that some people will get ideas. I wasn’t thinking along those lines before, but I will be from now on.”
