Finn hummed softly with an intrigued expression. His playful eyes were a sharp contrast to those of Sue who remained steady as she stared at him across the table.

She had tried to downplay the difference between her liege, the Transcendent of Chaos, and this figure called Sage Limitless. But her eyes told a whole different story. Even with her manic grin and natural craziness, there was a flicker of something close to reverence when she spoke that name.

Whoever Sage Limitless was, he was clearly far beyond even the reach of the Chaos Transcendent and stood solidly above everyone else in this age.

“Sage Limitless, huh,” Finn said. He tapped his finger carefully on the heavy oakwood table and a mysterious smile played on his lips.

Sue leaned back in her seat and began to play with her fingernails with a distracted air. “So, if you are still thinking of killing off all Transcendents, or whatever it is you plan on doing, I would advise you to end such thoughts now. It is for your own good, really.”

Her sprightly and over-exuberant glee seemed to have returned again. She looked like a child sharing a secret that was also a warning.

“Error… It is a fantastic concept. Just like my master, you control a core aspect of reality…” She raised her eyes and met Finn’s gaze. He still had that relaxed and untouchable air about him which seemed to irritate her beneath the surface.

The gleeful look on her face suddenly changed into one brimming with mockery. It was as if she was looking at a small child who didn’t know the length and breadth of the world before him.

“…But if you think that truly equates you to every other core concept wielder, then you are sorely mistaken. Sure, you can kill a lot of Transcendents. You might even clear out the riff raff. But you will never touch anyone of true importance. At the end of the day, the most you can do is cause a small dent in the structure of the world. Nothing more.”

She looked Finn up and down with a slow and deliberate gaze while he stared at her with an amused smile.

“In the grand scheme of things, Error bearer, you do not count for all that much. You are a footnote.” She finished her statement and then waited. She held Finn’s gaze in expectation of what would come next.

She likely expected an outburst or a defensive display of power or perhaps even a surge of that glow in his eyes that had terrified Jun.

But Finn did not react at all. In fact he looked to be in deep thought and his eyes were seemingly vacant as his mind worked a mile a minute. He was processing the implications of her words and the history they suggested.

Then finally, he chuckled and leaned back in his seat while folding his arms across his chest.

“So you do know who I am,” Finn said.

Sue’s eyes flickered slightly and the smile on her face stiffened by a fraction of a degree.

“You have knowledge of the Lost Age. You know of Error, and therefore, you know of Arros too,” Finn stated calmly. He rubbed his chin as he worked through the logic out loud.

“You cannot know that on your own. You are far too wet behind the ears to know of such ancient things. Which means your master, the Chaos Transcendent, remembers Arros and the happenings of the Lost Age.”

Finn looked at Sue whose face had turned into a flat and unreadable slate. The manic edge was still there but the playfulness had been replaced by a heavy and watchful silence.

“He is among the very few who remember that age and know of my inevitable coming. He would not reveal such knowledge to just anyone… Which would then mean you are of great importance to him. Either personally as a family member, a lover, or a colleague. Or perhaps you are just as a very useful tool he sees value in.”

Finn paused and he smiled after noticing the violent flicker of annoyance on Sue’s face at his last words.

“From your look, I reckon it is the latter. And to be honest, I do not think someone as crazy as the Chaos Transcendent would harbor any real love for someone else. You are a tool. His tool.”

The silence in the library was thick. Jun remained in his corner and he looked like he wanted to vanish into the floorboards while the two figures at the table locked eyes.

“What exactly is your fragment, to be exact…?” Finn asked. He was enjoying the solemn silence Sue had retreated into. She sat in her chair stiffly and her eyes were locked on him coldly. “A Copy concept…? It’s something along those lines, is it not?”

Sue’s expression soured even further.

“Sorry. Usually my eyes would be able to decipher exactly what I am looking at, but the trace of Chaos on you seems to be interfering with my vision,” Finn said with a dramatic sigh, before suddenly snapping his fingers like the answer had finally come to him:

“Theft. That is it, right? You wield the Transcendent fragment of Theft.”

Sue remained silent. Her face had reached its deepest level of a sour expression. She didn’t say anything while Finn suddenly stood up from his chair. He leaned forward on the table and brought his face closer to hers with a frustratingly smug smile.

“Your Master knows I have arrived. He sent you here knowing I would pass through this city. How did he know that? Was it a lucky guess? Predetermination? Or perhaps Divination?”

Each question he asked seemed to drive Sue deeper into a state of barely masked disbelief. Whether his assumptions were spot on or wildly off was unconfirmed by her lack of response, but the look on her face told him everything he needed to know. She was a window into her master’s intent.

“You were sent to learn and imitate my power of Error. You want to learn how it works for yourself, don’t you?”
