Chapter 111: Leaving The Sector
Chapter 111: Leaving The Sector
Adam’s thoughts went straight to his sector.
If it’s anything like what we faced here… they wouldn’t even last a minute.
He knew his home sector’s limits. Knew its manpower, its defenses, its response speed. This kind of nightmare, mutated rifts, sealed barriers, engineered tides, was far beyond what they could handle.
Adam didn’t want to be bound to anything.
But he wasn’t ready to watch his sector be erased either.
Not before I at least say proper goodbyes.
The commander began listing the sectors trapped within the barriers. One by one, numbers and locations filled the room. Adam listened closely, tension coiled tight in his chest.
Then…
Relief.
His sector wasn’t among them.
The tightness eased, just a little. Adam let out a breath he hadn’t realized he was holding.
Once the commander finished outlining everything that had happened while they were sealed off, he continued without pause.
“Now that we know who is behind this,” he said calmly, “all personnel will march on the Faraday household.”
He stopped briefly.
“In fact,” he added, “they are already on their way.”
Adam’s eyes narrowed slightly.
They act fast.
The commander turned his gaze to Adam, studying him openly this time.
“Boy,” he said, “you have done well.”
The words carried weight and acknowledgment from someone who didn’t hand it out lightly.
“The appropriate rewards for your merit will be delivered to you soon.”
Adam smiled.
“It’s only my duty.”
The commander seemed pleased by Adam’s reply.
A faint curve tugged at the old man’s lips as he nodded once. “We need more people like you in the Alliance.”
Adam smiled at that, it looked easy and unguarded.
The commander’s hand dipped into his storage ring, and a manual appeared in his grasp. He extended it toward Adam.
“I’m aware you possess a wind affinity,” he said evenly, “and a profound spirit.”
Adam’s eyes widened slightly.
Before Adam could speak, the commander added, “This will not be counted as part of your rewards. Consider it… personal.”
He tossed the manual.
Adam caught it instinctively and looked down at the cover.
A profound martial technique.
He read the name aloud, unable to stop himself.
“Wind Carnage: Requiem.”
His lips twitched.
What a nice name.
Before the moment could settle, the commander produced another item, this time a necklace. A skull-shaped pendant hung at its center, crafted from pale bone etched with dense runic lines.
“This,” the commander said, “is the Tier Two, Type V Armament — Bone Protector. A defensive armament. It establishes a constant barrier around the wearer.”
The acolytes watching from the side stared openly now.
They couldn’t believe it.
Manuals. Armaments. Handed out like they were nothing.
Vanessa said nothing, but her silence spoke volumes as she watched Adam receive gifts most people could only dream of.
Adam accepted the necklace and slipped it on without hesitation. He had already used Connect on the commander, he knew there was no scheme hidden here.
The moment the pendant settled against his chest, a subtle sensation spread through his body.
Protection.
Not heavy or restrictive.
Just… there.
Adam clenched his fist, feeling the difference immediately. Compared to physical armor, this felt freer. Lighter. Like the air itself had wrapped around him.
He looked up.
“Thank you,” Adam said sincerely.
The commander smiled.
“It’s only my duty.”

After the meeting ended, the commander didn’t linger.
Now that the Faradays had been confirmed as the ones behind it all, the Alliance finally had a clear starting point, and he needed to be there. Coordinating personnel. Overseeing arrests. Making sure no one slipped through the cracks.
So he left the sector the same way he’d arrived, with style.
Just as he’d predicted, it didn’t take long.
The high-ranking acolytes, the manager, the heirs, and even the ordinary citizens, had already heard, read, or seen it. The news spread like wildfire across the Alliance.
One hundred sectors in the low regions of the Outer Zone sealed by barriers.
Sector 418, the only one whose barrier had been dismantled.
It trended everywhere.
So did another name.
The Faraday Family.
A capture order had been placed on their heads, publicly branding them as the conspirators behind the barriers. Their influence collapsed overnight.
And then there was Adam.
Tagged as the number one contributor to Sector 418’s release.
With the barrier crisis shaking the Alliance, his name spread fast. People who had never heard of him before now knew it, whispered it, searched it, argued about it.
Two days passed.
Then Adam’s rewards finally arrived.
Between the sale of monster corpses and the official compensation for his contributions during the entrapment, the Mission Hall didn’t hold back.
His account was refreshed.
$25,243,854
Adam stared at the number.
Then refreshed the page.
Again.
And again.
Each time, the same ridiculous figure stared back at him.
A grin slowly spread across his face.
Damn.
He was standing at the train station, luggage and scythe stored away. There was nothing left tying him to this sector. Everything he needed to do here was done.
It was time to move on.
Footsteps approached.
Adam looked up.
Abigail and Dickson stood there, watching him.
Adam raised an eyebrow slightly.
“What are you guys doing here?”
Abigail let out a soft sigh.
“We just wanted to see you off. That’s all.”
Adam didn’t reply right away.
There goes leaving silently.
The thought carried no real annoyance. If anything, the corner of his lips lifted into a faint smile before he looked back at them.
“When are you leaving?” he asked. “I thought you’d be gone by now.”
“The clan’s busy dealing with the Faraday situation,” Abigail replied. “It’ll take some time before they send someone to pick us up.”
Adam almost asked why they couldn’t just leave on their own, then stopped himself.
They must have their reasons.
Before anything else could be said, a calm mechanical voice echoed through the station.
“The 69 Express is now arriving.”
Adam straightened.
“My train’s here.”
He stood, then looked at Abigail and Dickson one last time. He nodded.
They nodded back, as Adam turned and walked toward the platform. Passengers boarded quickly, the train lifting a few inches off the ground as the thrusters at the rear hummed to life.
In the next moment….
It was gone.
Abigail and Dickson stood there, watching the empty track.
Dickson broke the silence.
“You didn’t ask him for help again.”
Abigail sighed. “He might not have agreed.”
Dickson went quiet.
After a moment, Abigail spoke again, her voice firm. “And this is something our clan has to handle. Involving an outsider could risk too much.”
Dickson said nothing more.
Abigail turned away.
“Let’s go.”
Dickson nodded and followed her out of the station.
