Chapter 138: The Unwanted Mission
As the morning breeze swept across the Agathon land, men dressed in full combat suits ran a marathon on the road. Some held guns in their arms, while the rest walked with only a sword, or nothing on them, barehanded.
“Man, let us have some kill score today.” Bao Xiong sighed in a dissatisfied tone. “You’re not the only one with strength.”
“Whoa, Bao Xiong,” both twins, the Yanluos, pushed Bao Xiong on both shoulders. “Do you wish to die?”
They frowned and moved away from Bao Xiong, leaving the boy to face Tiger’s wrath alone.
For the Yanluos, they knew what Tiger was capable of. Since the Kang clan destroyed theirs and left them for testimony, they pledged never to cross any of the Kang’s paths, including Tiger.
Tiger moved forward, the heels of his boots striking the granite ground like thunder, then stopped when he reached Bao Xiong’s left side. “Be careful how you speak to me.”
Sweat dripped down from Bao Xiong’s brow even when ten minutes had passed after Tiger left him beside the Black Ops red door.
Bao Xiong broke his stillness, then covered his face with his palm. ’What the hell was I even thinking?’ The thoughts rattled against his mind as he wiped the sweat off his face.
He ran after Tiger, shoved past him, then stopped. “I’m sorry for what I said earlier.”
Tiger walked past Bao Xiong, not minding his plea.
The warm wind of Agathon flew across Tiger’s face as he exited their bungalow, then neared the MRAP that was assigned to them to embark on their real life-saving missions.
When all four members of Black Ops climbed into the MRAP, Tiger sat at the back, his blue eyes locked on Bao’s.
Outside the window, small green leaves flew past the glass, then tilted toward the direction where all the soldiers had paused, staring at the entrance of the Madhouse bungalow.
’Did he really survive the ironhide’s nest, or did he just hide himself until he heard the extraction craft’s roar?’ Dax, a soldier with thick veins streaking across his fists, kept his gaze locked on Leon while unbelievable thoughts screamed in his head.
’Why are they all staring at me like I’m a changed person?’ Leon kept a steady gaze forward, but his mind kept shifting his glances.
’I’m just the normal me, nothing has changed. Not even my jet-black hair.’ He tried to focus until he reached the Luo’s apartment.
Even in the mind-blowing building, men with striking faces paused and stared at the boy as if he had been cast out of hell.
’Here too? Oh damn…’ Leon brushed his palms across his face, feeling the power the stares threw at him.
After walking for ten minutes in the Luo’s apartment without a pause, Leon saw Hei Luo exiting from a building with a white door.
’Don’t they ever change their outfits? Or is that the only outfit they own?’ Leon laughed sluggishly, then calmed himself when Hei Luo closed in on him.
“Leon,” Hei Luo placed a hand on the boy’s shoulder as if he was an equal. “I will be sending you on a solo mission.”
’Me! Solo mission?!’ Leon’s eyes widened, his jaw bones grinding on themselves.
“I know this sounds heavy, but I’m sure you will come back alive, in the same way you stayed alive in the ironhide’s nest.” Hei Luo turned a smiling face to the boy, then shifted his gaze forward.
Leon’s face turned pale, yet he forced a smile until they exited the apartment.
Right at the front of the building, men with striking physiques that looked like they could wrestle with the titanium-skinned Soul Eater crossed their paths.
“Lieutenant Luo,” a man with a large black dragon tattoo on his uncovered right shoulder bowed to Hei Luo.
“Is this the kid?” The man pointed a finger at Leon, then smiled. “I’m Longwei.” He held Leon’s right arm, then shook it.
Leon gritted his teeth, his face reddening as he felt the bones in his arm screaming for help, while the man stood there, unwilling to let go of the boy’s arm.
“Longwei,” Hei Luo gave out a subtle laugh, then unwrapped his arms from Leon’s shoulder and placed them on Longwei’s. “Don’t you think the two of you would be a match?”
’The two of us! A match?! Does he want that man to kill me instantly?’ Leon swallowed hard as he screamed in his head.
The warm morning air flew past them as the two men and Leon walked from the Luo’s apartment to the workshop where all the vehicles were kept.
Metal hitting metal welcomed them as soon as Longwei swung the door open and entered first.
“Come in, my competitor,” Longwei swept his arms in front of Leon as soon as Hei Luo entered.
’Is he serious?!’ Leon hesitated, staring at the man’s calm silver eyes and white hair. ’Is he an old person?’ Leon gave the man a thorough scan as he stepped into the workshop.
There, huge military vehicles, round objects that had the look of spinning wheels, crafts of all sizes and shapes, and vehicles that seemed capable of destroying a mountain were arranged at perfect angles.
Tap. Tap.
“Are you marveled seeing all these?” Longwei smiled, then whirled around, flaunting the vehicle under his care. “I can give you any vehicle of your choice. Only if you know how to fly it.”
A short laugh ran through the workshop as Hei Luo moved toward Leon and wrapped his arms around the boy again.
Meanwhile, on the hazy road, the MRAP carrying the Black Ops halted at the right side of a collapsed cliff.
“Is this the legendary Vargath? The city that was once a land of warm harvest wind and silver rivers?” Bao Xiong leaned on the window at his side, his wide deep blood-red eyes scanning the landscape.
From beside him, one of the Yanluos joined him in scanning the landscape. “It was once rich with music and festivals that painted the night sky in pleasant colors. But now…”
The lady pulled back, then joined her sister.
As the door of the MRAP opened, the Black Ops squad exited one after another, inhaling the damned air of the ruined city.
“Mm…” Tiger inhaled deeply as he exited as the last person. ’This is exactly how I will make Leon’s body smell after I crash him down.’ A smile tore on his face as Leon’s face reeled across his eyelids.
There, under a strange turbulence of fast-moving ironhide lizards, the Yanluos dashed forward like cursed souls.
At the last second before reaching the creatures, a spinning wheel materialized and rammed through the creatures, sending them groaning and dying on the spot.
“I thought they were stronger.” The Yanluo with the yellow scarf around the wrist of her left arm gave a dissatisfying sigh, while the one with the blue scarf around the wrist of her right arm laughed uncontrollably.
“Why would you think that? Didn’t you see their dying eyes?” The blue one dashed after the fleeing creatures at the speed of light.
“Wait for me, sister.” The second one followed, thinning into a yellow line, then resurfacing into her human form just as she stopped in front of the creatures.
Wet groaning echoed from the distance as Tiger and the two other guys stood by the MRAP, unfazed.
’Damn, I can’t let the ladies take the show.’ Bao Xiong’s jaw tightened as he squinted and watched the ladies fight the creatures like playing with green grass.
A crackling sound echoed around him as he clenched his fist and dashed forward.
Just as Bao Xiong reached the side of the twins, the ladies dashed forward, wiping the creatures clean without leaving even a single one for the guy.
From the side of the MRAP, the only guy that had a band wrapped across his face like a ghost—Samir.
He pulled down the blue band from his face, then inhaled deeply. “Is it time yet?” He turned a half-skin and half-steel face to Tiger.
“Yes, it’s time.” Tiger nodded, then folded his arms around his chest.
Samir cracked his neck and knuckles, then blinked, his icy blue-colored eyes giving Vargath a thorough scan.
“Would like it if you would go back a bit.” He gestured at Tiger, who complied. “Thank you.”
He yawned heavily, covering his mouth, then laughed in an eerie tone that sent the metal skin on the MRAP melting down like water.
With just a single move of his right leg, stormy air blasted from the side where Samir stood, carving a path from the MRAP to the front of the Yanluos.
Lava exploded from the carved path, sending hot air into the sky.
“What was that?” Bao Xiong’s face turned pale as soon as the stormy air pushed him flying to the side.
He slammed his clenched fist, which had black light spiraling around it, hard onto the ground, then pushed himself up.
“IS THAT SAMIR? THE DEAF AND BLIND BOY?!” Bao Xiong raised a trembling finger at the boy standing at the front of the Yanluos, stretching.
