Chapter 63: A common issue
Nick had only just managed to muster up the courage to face Mutant Beasts. Radiant Beasts were still out of the question for him, and with the news that Star Rank beasts might exist in the first layer too? He wouldn’t even entertain the thought of going out to try and hunt one with his puny amount of strength.
He might have found out that he was stronger than he’d thought, but he wasn’t stupid enough to let his ego lead him blindly into death.
And he wouldn’t even entertain doing the same thing he’d done with Dido and Beast Slayer.
Even if Dido offered her entire fortune to him, he’d never be bait for a raid on a Star Rank beast.
As for trying to kill steal one?
Nobody in the upper layers had ever managed to even kill one, let alone kill steal one…
He had no reason to believe that he was special and things would be different for him.
Though he could see why this news had completely riled everyone up, even the high elite of the Federation.
It was impossible to hunt one down in the third layer and above due to the sheer gap in power between them and the beast.
With a foundation built at best upon Radiant Beast Soul Stars all the way through each layer, it wasn’t anywhere near enough to take down a single Star rank beast.
Radiant and Star rank beasts can’t even be compared.
A single Star rank beast could take down a hundred Radiant rank beasts without even breaking a sweat.
But with the news that Star Rank beasts were now found in the first layer too, the elites of the Federation finally see hope for someone to finally manage to take down one of those elusive, extremely powerful beasts!
They already felt a little ashamed that after over 50 years of exploring and ascending through the Beast Domain, they still weren’t able to take a single Star Rank beast down themselves.
But that brought Nick’s mind back to reality.
With this news being spread to every Sanctuary leader, it was natural to spread to the general public as well as such information was impossible to keep under wraps with so many people becoming aware of it now.
However, why did Dido and Beast Slayer summon both of their forces outside of the Sanctuary then?
And why together?
Dido let the revelation settle on everyone’s minds, before continuing to speak.
“For those who need reminding,” She said, with her voice containing a hint of excitement, a rare crack in her usual, stern exterior.
“Just two Star Rank beast cores boosted the President to his current status, and turned him from just an average person to one of the strongest humans in the entire Federation!”
“Just imagine what kind of strength you could achieve if you ascended through all the Beast Domain’s layers with Star Rank Soul Seeds the whole way through! Who knows, with such power you might even be able to win the war against the Demon race for us with your strength alone!”
She let her speech hang in the air after she was finished.
The implications didn’t need to be spelled out for everyone.
This discovery alone was bound to propel humanity another step forwards in the universal food chain, and finally give them an edge against their mortal enemies, the Demon race!
If even one person managed to kill a Star Rank beast in the first layer, it would set off a chain reaction that would spread all the way to the top of the Federation, where even the strongest humans would be effected.
Even if they had a trash Soul Ability, it wouldn’t matter! The current President had already proven that you could bridge any gaps with those who had much better Soul Abilities thanks to the use of Star Rank Beast cores…
Of course, when people who not only had god tier Soul Abilities, but also had Star rank Soul Stars, start to pop up — the true powerhouses would begin to show themselves.
Though all of this would notably place quite a lot of unwanted attention on Altered, who were still in the first layer of the Beast Domain.
There would undoubtedly be another gold rush from all the top elite powerhouses and forces to send their juniors and most loyal members into the first layer in an attempt to be the first ones to take down those almighty Star Beasts.
And naturally, Nick had guessed that was what Dido and Beast Slayer had gathered outside of the entrance to do.
This seemed to have clicked in other’s minds too, as they had a visible change in expression once they had calmed down and considered what all this meant for them.
“…We’ll never get another chance like this.” Dido finished in a serious tone, as the greed and desire in her eyes couldn’t be hidden.
Neither could Beast Slayer hide his.
Stunned silence encapsulated the sound suppression bubble.
Then, as if a switch had flipped, a wave of raw greed spread across the gathered elites like a storm forming above.
Some mouths even curled into hungry grins.
A star rank beast…
To kill one would be utter madness.
To even fight it was probably suicide.
But they all had that thought at the back of their mind.
What if they were the one… What if they won?
’If I could absorb just one Star rank Beast Core…’ Thoughts like this rung through every mind present.
They’d ascend beyond every other Altered in the Federation in that instant.
Except, not all of them felt this endless desire to fight such a suicidal battle.
Nick felt an intense amount of sweat form on his back and neck.
Even he wasn’t immune to the siren’s call, but he knew his limits, and was much more realistic.
It was stupid to think that they had a chance against one, and especially with so few people as well.
What made them think that they even stood a chance, when 90% of everyone gathered hadn’t even got a Radiant Soul Seed to their name?
Just Dido, Beast Slayer and a few of their closest elites did, but that was still nothing in the face of a Star Rank beast.
