Chapter 5

“Everyone, stop! Silence!” A man in his thirties climbed onto the roof of his car and shouted.

The noise subsided somewhat, and the man continued, “If we want to get out of here, we need to move the two cars blocking the road. One of them has zombies inside, and the other has a dead person. We don’t have to worry about the one with the dead body, but we must deal with the zombies. There are three of them in the car, and I’m willing to go ahead and fight. Who else is coming with me?”

As his voice rang out, he scanned the jammed cars and the faces of those inside.

The road fell silent again.

The man waited a moment but saw no stepping forward.

“Cowards,” he cursed under his breath, and there was clear disdain in his voice.

Sylas, who was standing by his car, let out a dry, depreciating laugh.

Everyone wants to live, but no one wants to take risks. In times of crisis, there are always people who prefer to stay behind and reap the rewards from those who take risks.

Opening his car door, Sylas grabbed his metal rod. He looked up at the man on the car roof, gave a faint smile, and said, “I’m in, brother.”

The man’s furrowed brows softened as he saw Sylas step forward.

“Alright, let’s go” the man said, jumping down from the roof.

Before moving ahead, Sylas turned around and cast a sweeping gaze over the people sitting inside their cars.

The people inside the cars lowered their heads in shame.

Sylas made his way toward the man. “Sylas,” he introduced himself.

“I’m Dylan,” the man replied, extending his hand for a shake. He glanced at the metal rod in Sylas’s hand and chuckled. “Nice weapon. Looks like you came prepared.” He then turned toward his car trunk.

“Better to be prepared than to die in vain,” Sylas replied.

Dylan retrieved a long sword from the trunk of his car and looked at Sylas. “Let’s go. There are three zombies in that car. From your build, I can tell you at least know some self-defense. I think the two of us can handle them with no problem.”

Sylas nodded in agreement. “Well, I do. Let’s get to it.”

Sylas wasn’t worried about Dylan. From what he’d seen, it was clear that the man was also a trained fighter.

As they neared the front, the door a red Ferrari suddenly swung open. A young lady in black with short hair stepped out of it holding a baseball bat. She was small and cute, standing at only around 5’2″.

Sylas and Dylan were momentarily stunned.

“What? Do you look down on girls?” the lady said, narrowing her eyes as she haughtily rested the bat on her shoulder.

Dylan quickly stepped forward with a smile. “Of course not, young lady. I admire your courage. I’m Dylan.”

“Serena,” she replied curtly.

“Sylas,” Sylas added, nodding.

“Let’s go and deal with those pains in the ass quickly,” Serena said before striding forward.

Dylan and Sylas exchanged a quick glance, hearing her words, before they both hurried to catch up with her.

Sylas looked ahead and saw three zombies inside the car. Their eyes were vacant, their movements jerky as they mindlessly scratched and thumped against the window.

“Let us go first, miss. You stay behind,”

Dylan said with a smile.

Serena narrowed her eyes and let out a

mocking laugh. Without a word, she swung her baseball bat at the car window.

Bang!

The glass shattered, and the zombies

scrambled to escape like hungry ghosts.

Serena, gripping the bat with both hands,

immediately smashed the skull of the first zombie before it could fully crawl out.

As she prepared to strike again, a sword

pierced through the second zombie’s head with a swift, sharp motion.

“Nice sword,” Serena said, flashing a quick glance at Dylan. She then shifted her stance and swung the bat, landing a solid hit on the third zombie’s hand.

Bang!

‘Gulp’ Sylas swallowed hard looking at the small girl.

‘What a strength!’ Sylas thought as he stood behind them. It looks like he was not needed. The two of them dealt with it within seconds.

Crack!

Just as they thought it was over,

the car door suddenly creaked open, revealing a small girl in a white dress.

Without warning, the little girl lunged at

Serena, baring her teeth.

Sylas reacted instantly, thrusting his metal rod forward and piercing the girl’s head with a swift strike.

“OH F…K!” Dylan cursed loudly, his voice

filled with disbelief. They hadn’t noticed the girl before-she was so small, and from

outside, they had only seen the three adult zombies.

“Lesson learned, lesson learned,” Serena said, patting her chest with her small hands to calm her racing heart. She then turned to Sylas and said, “Thank you.

“No problem, be careful next time,” Sylas replied as he pulled out his metal rod from the girls head.

Dylan headed toward the other car, pulling the dead man out and starting the engine. He quickly moved the car to the side. Serena also climbed into the car, which was filled with zombies earlier and did the same, moving it out of the way.

Sylas was once again left behind.

“Done, let’s go,” Dylan called out.

“It was a pleasure working with you,” Serena said, offering a brief smile before walking away.

Sylas raised an eyebrow and thought, “Are little girls nowadays this fierce?”

“I’m amazed,” Dylan said, watching Serena’s retreating figure. “She kills without even batting an eye.”

“Let’s get going,” Sylas replied, as he turned to move forward.

As they were heading back, they suddenly heard some noise from behind.

At the same time, someone in the front car shouted, “Behind!”

“Zombies, behind!”

Both Dylan and Sylas immediately turned around and saw a man carrying a small boy in his arms, stumbling out from an alley and running toward them, with zombies chasing behind them.

“Help! Please help us!” the man shouted foe help as he limped forward.

“He seems injured,” Sylas said as he rushed ahead.
