Chapter 79: Chapter 79: He’s Very Serious When He Gets Angry
Su Tang could clearly feel the frightening low pressure radiating from him, like the dead calm before a blizzard.
He was silent, but his movements were fast and precise.
First, he used a warm, damp towel to carefully wipe away the grime and dried blood from around the wound, his touch as light as a feather’s caress.
Next, using a pair of tweezers, he took a cotton ball soaked in antiseptic and meticulously cleaned the wound.
The stinging pain of the antiseptic on the wound made Su Tang involuntarily let out a HISS, and her body trembled slightly.
Lu Xiao’s hand paused immediately. He looked up at her, the ache in his eyes practically overflowing.
But even more than that, there was a cold, suppressed fury, pushed to its absolute limit.
He took a deep breath and softened his voice, which now held a faint, almost imperceptible rasp. “Just bear with it for a moment. It’ll be over soon.”
Lu Xiao resumed his work, his movements even more cautious, as if he were handling a priceless treasure.
After cleaning it, he sprinkled on a medicinal powder with a faint herbal scent, then carefully wrapped it, layer by layer, with clean gauze.
The man’s fingers were long and strong, yet now they were exceptionally steady and gentle.
Once the bandaging was done, Lu Xiao didn’t get up right away.
He remained kneeling on one knee, his large hand gently resting on Su Tang’s uninjured side, its warmth a soothing comfort.
He raised his head and locked his gaze on Su Tang’s, his eyes churning with lingering fear, heartache, and a towering rage that was being forcibly suppressed.
“Now, tell me.”
“What exactly happened? Who did this?”
Beneath his calm tone was a volcano on the verge of erupting.
Anyone who dared to lay a hand on his wife—on Lu Xiao’s wife—would pay the price. No exceptions.
Seeing the suppressed fury in his eyes, a rage that seemed ready to burn everything to the ground, Su Tang knew she couldn’t hide it any longer.
She sighed softly and briefly recounted what had happened: Wang Jianfeng taking Mai Sui hostage at the wedding, how she had been shoved into the sharp corner of a table in the chaos, and how Wang Jianfeng was ultimately tied up and sent to the police station.
As Su Tang spoke, the lines on Lu Xiao’s face grew increasingly cold and hard.
The hand resting on her side unconsciously tightened for a moment before he forced himself to relax it, afraid he might hurt her.
When he heard that Wang Jianfeng had been holding a knife, the last trace of warmth vanished from Lu Xiao’s eyes, leaving only a frozen pond and a bottomless hostility.
He didn’t roar, nor did he curse.
But his silence was more suffocating than any shout.
Lu Xiao slowly rose to his feet, his tall figure casting a heavy shadow under the light.
He walked to the table, picked up his water cup, and threw his head back, gulping down several mouthfuls of cold water.
His Adam’s apple bobbed a few times, as if he were forcibly swallowing the murderous intent churning in his chest.
Then, he turned and walked back to the bedside.
Lu Xiao leaned down, bracing his hands on the edge of the bed on either side of Su Tang, completely enveloping her in his presence.
He lowered his head, gently resting his forehead against Su Tang’s, their noses almost touching.
His hot breath fanned across Su Tang’s face, and she could clearly feel the rage still simmering inside him.
“Your injury… does it still hurt badly?”
Lu Xiao’s voice was extremely hoarse, laced with the lingering fear of a close call and a heartache so thick it was palpable.
“The man… was he caught?”
he asked again, his tone as cold as iron.
“He was caught. They sent him to the police station.”
Su Tang replied softly, reaching out to stroke his tense cheek, as if trying to smooth away his hostility.
Lu Xiao closed his eyes and took a deep breath. When he opened them again, the violence in their depths had been forcibly suppressed, but the coldness and resolve had not diminished in the slightest.
He straightened up, grabbed the jacket draped over the back of the chair, and put it on with swift, clean movements.
“Stay home and rest. Don’t go anywhere.”
he instructed in a low voice as he fastened his collar button, his tone an undeniable command.
“I’m going to the police station.”
“Lu Xiao…”
Worried, Su Tang caught the corner of his jacket.
Lu Xiao paused, turned back to grasp her hand, and gave it a firm squeeze, his gaze as sharp as a razor’s edge.
“Don’t worry. I’m just going to ’get an understanding’ of the situation.”
The corner of his mouth curved into an utterly glacial smile.
“And while I’m at it, I’ll see just how tough the bones are on the scumbag who dared to touch the wife of Lu Xiao.”
With that, he didn’t linger, but turned and strode briskly out the door.
The Jeep’s engine let out an angry growl, and its wheels kicked up dust as it sped off toward the police station.
Su Tang leaned against the headboard, listening to the fading sound of the engine. The wound in her side still throbbed with a dull ache, but her heart felt strangely at peace.
She knew her man was back.
The man who was usually as steady as a mountain, but who was now burning with a heaven-scorching fury for her sake, would take care of everything.
Wang Jianfeng’s fate would be far more than just a few days in a holding cell.
Lu Xiao’s anger could only be appeased by the most thorough ’settling of accounts’.
Two days later, thanks to the special medicinal powder supplied by Lu Xiao and his strict ’supervision,’ the wound on Su Tang’s side was mostly healed.
The redness and swelling had subsided, leaving only a patch of new, pale pink skin.
Lu Xiao’s tense nerves finally relaxed a little, but his overprotective streak hadn’t diminished in the slightest.
“I’m really fine now. See? It doesn’t even hurt to walk.”
Su Tang deliberately took a couple of steps in front of him, trying to prove she could move without any trouble.
Lu Xiao didn’t say a word, merely frowning as his gaze swept over her side.
Then, he picked up an oil-paper package and a newly bought box of toys from the table. They were for Mai Sui.
“Let’s go.”
He said succinctly, then reached out and wrapped his arm around Su Tang’s waist in an exceedingly natural gesture.
His palm was warm and strong, its position precisely avoiding the wound, yet it held her securely circled at his side.
The gesture carried an air of undeniable protection and a declaration of ownership.
Su Tang’s face grew a little warm, and she squirmed slightly. “So many people are watching…”
People were coming and going in the family courtyard; it was so embarrassing.
“So what if they’re watching?”
Lu Xiao raised an eyebrow. His arm didn’t move an inch; in fact, he pulled her a little tighter. He leaned down and whispered in her ear, his deep voice carrying a hint of barely perceptible dominance.
“I’m supporting my injured wife. It’s my right.”
His warm breath tickled the shell of her ear, and the base of Su Tang’s ears instantly flushed crimson. She obediently stopped struggling and let him half-embrace her as they walked toward Li Haixin and Zhang Cui’s new home.
Li Haixin and Zhang Cui lived in a newly assigned single room. Though not large, it was tidy and cozy.
The door was ajar, and from inside came the sound of Zhang Cui softly coaxing Mai Sui, along with the clatter of a spatula as Li Haixin worked in the kitchen.
“Zhang Cui! Master Li!” Su Tang called out.
“Oh, Su Tang!”
Zhang Cui came out to greet them, holding Mai Sui. Her face showed the weariness of someone who had just been through a harrowing experience, but it was overlaid with a sense of security and gratitude.
There was a small piece of gauze taped to Mai Sui’s neck. When she saw Su Tang, her big eyes blinked, and she shyly held out her small hands.
“Good girl, Mai Sui. Look what Aunt Su brought for you.”
Su Tang smiled and handed her the toy.
Mai Sui’s eyes lit up, and a small smile finally appeared on her face as she hugged the box tightly.
Li Haixin also came out of the kitchen, wiping his hands. Seeing Lu Xiao, he immediately straightened his back. “Deputy Commander Lu.”
He had a deep, heartfelt respect for Lu Xiao, who, despite his youth, had a distinguished military record.
Lu Xiao nodded. His gaze rested on the gauze on Mai Sui’s neck for an instant, his eyes turning cold for a moment before quickly returning to normal. “It’s good the child is all right.”
He handed the oil-paper package to Li Haixin. “Some marinated meats. To add to your meal.”
