Chapter 116: Chapter 116: The Birth of the Little Wolf King
Lila’s POV
In the depths of my consciousness, I seemed to enter a gray wasteland. The wind howled, and dust filled the sky. I saw a massive, brown-furred she-wolf lying painfully on the ground. Her belly was swollen, but a black chain was wrapped around her body—the remnants of poison and fear.
“Don’t be afraid.” I walked forward, reached out, and gently stroked the top of her head.
The she-wolf raised her head, her eyes filled with pain and helplessness. She looked at me and let out a low whimper from her throat.
“We’ll do this together,” I said again. “For the child.”
The she-wolf seemed to understand my intention. She slowly rose to her feet. Though her body still trembled, a new glint of determination appeared in her eyes. She lowered her head and nudged my palm with her forehead—a gesture of trust and submission in the Wolf Clan.
Just then, I saw a small, dusty-gray pup behind the she-wolf, struggling to break free of its bonds and enter this world.
“Come on,” I called softly. “This world is beautiful. Your mother is here, your people are here, and… there are infinite possibilities.”
I extended my hand, and the Moon Power formed a silver bridge, connecting me to the she-wolf, and the she-wolf to her pup.
“Push!” In the real world, I snapped my eyes open and shouted.
The Queen let out a roar, using every last bit of her strength.
In the wasteland of consciousness, the she-wolf also threw back her head and howled. Under the silver light, the black chain shattered link by link. She shook her head violently, and the pup behind her finally broke free, stumbling onto the gray wasteland.
WAAAAH!
A clear cry pierced the heavy silence inside the tent.
In the real world, a small life, covered in blood and filth, had finally arrived.
“She’s given birth! She’s given birth!” A wave of joyous celebration erupted inside the tent.
I looked at the tiny, wrinkled baby, my heart filled with an unprecedented sense of satisfaction. I carefully held him in my arms and cleaned him with warm water. He was a boy with a full head of thick, black hair and eyes that, though closed, radiated a spiritual aura.
“It’s a boy,” I said softly, bringing the baby to the Queen. “A healthy boy.”
The Queen weakly opened her eyes. Looking at the child, tears streamed down her face. She reached out a trembling hand to gently stroke the baby’s cheek, a blissful smile gracing her lips.
“Thank you… Thank you…” she choked out, her voice hoarse.
Outside the tent, the Great Elder and several other elders of the tribe were waiting anxiously. When the clear cry of a baby rang out, they all froze.
It was followed by a deathly silence.
Then, an explosion of sheer ecstasy.
“She’s given birth! The Queen has given birth!”
“It’s a boy! A healthy boy!”
“A miracle! This is a miracle!”
The Great Elder’s hands trembled, the cloudiness in his eyes swept away and replaced by an indescribable excitement. He spun around and shouted to his clansmen behind him, “Sound the horns! Light the bonfires! Our new king is born!”
In an instant, the entire tribe erupted.
The sound of horns echoed through the night sky as bonfires were relit, burning brighter and stronger. The men brandished their weapons, the women sang and danced, and the children cheered with glee. The entire Sand Sea Tribe was immersed in an unprecedented carnival of celebration.
I walked out, holding the baby and parting the tent flaps.
Moonlight, like water, spilled over me and onto the tiny, sleeping infant’s face. I raised the child high for all the Werewolves to see.
“Behold!” I shouted. “This is your new king! A gift from the Moon Goddess!”
“New king! New king!”
“All hail the Goddess! All hail the Goddess!”
The cheers were like thunder, making my ears ring. I watched the fiery, passionate crowd before me, a warm current surging through my heart. This was the power of life. This was the power of hope.
Jasper pushed through the crowd and came to my side. He didn’t look at the cheering Werewolves, nor at the child held high. His gaze was fixed on my face alone.
“You did an amazing job, my Priest,” he said in a low voice, his eyes full of adoration and pride.
I turned my head to look at him, a tired yet happy smile on my lips. “Thank you. Thank you for staying out here with me the whole time.”
He reached out and gently brushed a bead of sweat from my temple. The touch of his fingertips on my skin was cool.
“There’s no need for ’thank you’ between us,” he whispered, leaning close to my ear so only I could hear. “But… watching someone else have a baby, did it give you any ideas?”
I froze for a second, then realized what he was saying. My cheeks instantly grew scorching hot. “Jasper! What are you talking about!”
He chuckled, a hint of teasing and desire in his eyes. “I’m serious. Looking at this little guy, I suddenly wondered what it would be like if we had one. Would they be beautiful like you, or handsome like me?”
I glared at him but couldn’t hide the smile in my eyes. “In your dreams. It’s way too soon for that.”
“It’s not too soon.” He wrapped his arm around my waist, pulling me gently into his arms. Amid the boisterous celebration, he gave me an embrace that was ours alone. “Once this hunt is over, we’ll find a sacred place and plan it out properly, hm?”
I leaned against his chest, listening to his heartbeat and feeling the joy and blessings of the clansmen around us. In that moment, all my exhaustion vanished, leaving only a profound sense of happiness and peace.
The Great Elder came forward. He glanced at our embrace, a complex emotion flickering in his eyes. But in the end, he gave a deep bow, his voice resonant and sincere.
“Goddess, Outsider. You not only saved the Queen’s life, but you also brought us our new king. From this day forward, you are the eternal allies of the Sand Sea Tribe! As long as you have need of it, you may take anything from this desert!”
I lifted my head from Jasper’s chest and looked at the Great Elder, nodding with a smile. “Thank you. But we only need one thing—the path to Death Canyon.”
The Great Elder’s expression changed slightly, but looking at the sleeping infant in my arms, he finally gave a firm nod.
“Very well. First thing tomorrow morning, I will send our best guide to take you.”
I was about to thank him again when I suddenly remembered the poison the Queen had expelled—and its familiar scent.
“By the way, there’s something else I must tell you. There’s something suspicious about the poison that afflicted the Queen.”
