Chapter 110: On the Warship (Part-9)
Bai Ye stared, completely speechless.
He had suspected Ryan saved him earlier, but witnessing it firsthand was something else entirely. A masked warrior who could slaughter candidates with ease couldn’t even approach Ryan before dying. The shock was overwhelming.
Just how strong had Ryan become?
Ryan ignored Bai Ye’s expression and swept his gaze across the battlefield. Though many candidates had formed groups to resist, the increasing number of masked warriors was steadily crushing them. The balance was clearly tipping toward massacre.
Ryan exhaled slowly.
He was not heartless. These were all candidates from the northern district. If he could help, he would.
“You stay here. Don’t move. I’ll be back,” Ryan said calmly.
Everyone responded immediately.
“We’ll stay.”
“Brother Wei decides everything.”
“Brother Li, be careful. Bi’er won’t run around.”
Only Mu Xianling remained silent.
Ryan turned to look at her.
Under his gaze, Mu Xianling inexplicably felt her heart flutter. She lowered her head and said softly, “I won’t move.”
Ryan nodded and turned to leave.
“Li Wei…” Mu Xianling suddenly called out.
Ryan paused and turned back. “What is it?”
“Be careful.” Her voice was barely audible, her face burning red as she lowered her head completely.
Ryan was momentarily stunned. After everything that had happened, he hadn’t expected concern from her. The thought made him pause for a fraction of a second before he shook his head lightly.
Women really were hard to understand.
Without another word, Ryan turned and moved.
The Sword appeared in his hand, and Phantom Step activated, his figure splitting into multiple afterimages as he shot forward at terrifying speed, entering the nearest battle zone.
More than fifty exhausted candidates were barely holding off six or seven masked warriors, their bodies riddled with wounds, blood soaking their clothes. Collapse was inevitable.
But Ryan had arrived.
With a sword in hand, afterimages flickering, he charged straight toward the masked warriors.
Because of his terrifying speed, none of the masked warriors noticed Ryan when he rushed toward them.
Even when Ryan passed directly in front of their eyes, those masked warriors remained completely unaware, as if he did not exist at all.
The Phantom Step was pushed to its absolute limit. His speed had surpassed what the naked eye could perceive, leaving behind nothing but faint afterimages that vanished the instant they appeared.
In less than a breath, Ryan had already passed by six or seven masked warriors in succession.
When he appeared again, he was standing calmly on the opposite side of the group.
He stood upright, Remnant Shadow Sword hanging loosely at his side, a faint smile resting at the corner of his lips. The confidence and composure he exuded made him seem completely out of place amid the chaos and slaughter.
Only then did the masked warriors sense something wrong.
Before they could react, thin red lines appeared on their necks.
The lines slowly widened, and in the next instant, fresh blood burst out like spring water.
Puff. Puff. Puff.
One after another, the masked warriors collapsed to the ground.
Dead.
A series of system prompts echoed rapidly in Ryan’s mind.
“Ding. Congratulations to player Ryan for killing a masked warrior. Gained 65,000 experience points.”
“Ding. Congratulations to player Ryan for killing a masked warrior. Gained 65,000 experience points.”
“Ding. Congratulations to player Ryan for killing a masked warrior. Gained 81,000 experience points.”
…
“Ding. Congratulations to player Ryan for obtaining mid-tier equipment: Black Iron Gloves.”
“Hm? Equipment dropped?”
Ryan paused for a brief moment, then delight flashed through his eyes.
After so long using the God of War System, he understood it well. Like a game from his previous world, killing enemies not only granted experience but also had a chance to drop equipment, martial techniques, or special items.
However, the drop rate was notoriously low.
Unless it was a special enemy, mission, or situation, getting equipment was often a matter of pure luck.
Yet now, after killing only a handful of masked warriors, an item had dropped.
And judging from the name, it was something he could actually use.
Ryan was extremely satisfied, though he did not check it immediately. This was no time to leisurely inspect the equipment.
On the other side, the more than fifty candidates who had been desperately resisting the masked warriors stood frozen in shock.
Moments ago, they had been fighting for their lives, barely holding the line.
Then a sudden gust of wind passed through.
And everything changed.
The masked warriors they had struggled against were suddenly dead.
In front of them now stood an unfamiliar candidate holding a broken-looking sword.
Who was he? What had just happened?
Their minds were filled with confusion.
Those were seven masked warriors, all at the Exalt level. Such a force should have been enough to slaughter them all.
How could they have died so silently and instantly?
Could it be this person?
The thought barely lasted a moment before being rejected. No one could believe that a mere candidate possessed the power to instantly kill seven Exalt-rank enemies.
Impossible.
Someone else must have helped them.
Ryan gave them no explanation.
The moment the masked warriors in this battle zone were dealt with, his figure flickered again and vanished.
He reappeared on another battlefield.
This one was even larger.
Nearly three hundred candidates were being besieged by more than a dozen masked warriors.
Without hesitation, Ryan charged in.
With Phantom Step and the overwhelming strength of an Upper Exalt, he swept through the battlefield like a storm.
There was no resistance.
There was no chance to react.
The masked warriors fell one after another, cut down before they even realized danger had arrived.
System prompts rang endlessly in Ryan’s mind.
In this battle zone, the candidates did not even realize what had happened.
They only saw the masked warriors suddenly stiffen, their movements slowing unnaturally. Thinking the enemies were weakening, they seized the opportunity and launched a desperate counterattack.
By the time their weapons struck, the masked warriors were already dead.
Their bodies were hacked apart into mangled pieces.
Ryan’s figure flashed again.
He moved like a ghost across the Void Warship, appearing and disappearing at will. Everywhere he passed, masked warriors collapsed, turning into nothing more than experience points.
In a short span of time, every masked warrior who had boarded the warship was wiped out.
The deck finally fell silent.
The surviving candidates were freed from imminent death, collapsing to the ground as they gasped for breath, trembling with relief.
Ryan, meanwhile, felt exhilarated.
From the moment he joined the battle until now, he had slain hundreds of masked warriors, accumulating over seven million experience points.
Yet as his level rose higher, the amount of experience required to advance grew terrifyingly large.
Those millions of points had only filled about three-quarters of his progress bar.
To break through to One-Star Upper Exalt, he would still need to kill dozens more enemies.
With this realization, Ryan’s excitement surged even higher.
His figure flickered once more.
Now that the interior of the warship was clear, Mu Xianling and the others were no longer in immediate danger.
Unless the Upper Exalts in the sky descended personally, the candidates aboard the ship were temporarily safe.
This meant Ryan could move farther.
His gaze lifted toward the trestle bridge, where fierce combat still raged.
That was his next target.
