Chapter 92: The Challenge with Lingyin City’s representatives (Part-7)
“Even Fan Wei lost. What chance does Li Wei have?”
“I admit Li Wei isn’t a waste anymore, and yes, he’s strong. But at best, he’s around the same level as Fan Wei, maybe even a bit weaker. Fan Wei couldn’t win, so how could Li Wei win a match? And don’t forget, Fang Tian isn’t even the last one. There are still four more from Lingyin City.”
“What’s more infuriating is that Fang Tian is said to be the weakest among the five. If even the weakest can crush four of ours, what can Li Wei possibly do?”
“Forget it. I don’t want to feel hope again just to be crushed.”
“I’m furious… and helpless. Can this competition just end already? I want this pain to stop.”
The Li Clan was simply too small in number compared to the entire population of Fengyue City. Their confidence was swallowed instantly by waves of pessimism. The crowd grew more dejected by the second, many wishing the match would end quickly, even if it meant swallowing this humiliation.
“Just wait and see,” a Li Clan youth muttered angrily. “Young Master Li Wei will show his might soon. Don’t scare yourselves.”
No one responded.
That indifference only made the Li Clan members clench their teeth in frustration. Ryan was standing right there, yet no one believed in him.
Fine, then let the truth speak.
Meanwhile, on the high platform, the Mu Clan patriarch glanced at Li Gengxin and asked with a puzzled expression, “Patriarch Li, out of the five candidates from Fengyue City, only Li Wei from your Clan remains. What do you think about this match?”
He was genuinely confused. Everyone knew that even Fan Wei had lost. Logic said there was no hope left. Yet Li Gengxin’s expression remained calm, even relieved, and his gaze toward Ryan carried unmistakable confidence.
Did Li Gengxin truly believe his son could win?
Not long ago, when everyone called him a waste, Li Gengxin had agreed. Later, Li Wei proved them all wrong. Now, when everyone said Li Wei couldn’t beat Fang Tian, was Li Gengxin seeing something they weren’t?
All eyes turned toward him, waiting for his answer.
Li Gengxin smiled faintly and replied simply, “We can win.”
The words stunned everyone present.
“Patriarch Li,” the Mu Clan head asked again, startled, “do you mean winning against Fang Tian… or—”
“Of course, winning the entire challenge,” Li Gengxin interrupted calmly. “What’s the point of beating Fang Tian alone if we don’t win overall?”
The Mu Clan patriarch froze, staring at Li Gengxin as if he were seeing him for the first time. After a long pause, he fell silent, deep in thought.
“Patriarch Li, confidence is one thing,” the Su Clan patriarch sneered, “but blind arrogance leads nowhere.”
“Yes,” the Fan Clan patriarch added coldly. “Everyone wants Fengyue City to stand tall, but facts are facts. Even my Fan Wei lost. Is Li Wei stronger than him? Winning this comparison? Don’t make us all look foolish.”
The Yuan Clan patriarch followed with barely restrained anger. “Even if Li Wei somehow beats Fang Tian, so what? Fang Tian is only the weakest among those from Lingyin City. What happens next? Winning the comparison? That’s laughable.”
Li Gengxin didn’t argue. He simply turned his gaze back to the arena, resting it on the lone figure standing proudly below, a quiet smile of assurance on his face.
“Just wait and see,” he said softly.
On the other side of the platform, Tang Wuying chuckled. “Brother Wang, looks like you’re going to lose this one.”
He had prepared for Bai Ye to fight, but now it seemed unnecessary. Fang Tian alone had crushed four opponents. Fengyue City’s candidates were far weaker than he had expected.
“I don’t think so,” Wang Zongyao replied calmly. “We still have someone left. And I believe he can win this.”
“Oh?” Tang Wuying turned, surprise flickering in his eyes.
The last candidate?
By order, the final one should be the strongest in Fengyue City this year. But judging by those who had already fought, Tang Wuying couldn’t imagine anyone capable of turning the tide. Yet Wang Zongyao’s composure was unsettling.
Driven by curiosity, Tang Wuying followed Wang Zongyao’s gaze toward the last candidate.
The moment his eyes landed there, his expression froze.
“No… impossible.”
He couldn’t see that person’s cultivation level at all.
Tang Wuying was a four-star Upper Exalt, stronger even than Wang Zongyao. He could see through every candidate present—except this one.
“Brother Wang,” Tang Wuying asked slowly, eyes locked on that figure, “what is this candidate’s name?”
“He?” Wang Zongyao smiled faintly. “His name is Li Wei.”
Then, without sparing Tang Wuying another glance, Wang Zongyao stepped forward and called out clearly toward the arena:
“Li Wei. It’s your turn.”
“Alright.” At Wang Zongyao’s call, Ryan nodded calmly and prepared to step onto the arena.
Just then, Mu Xianling, who had already been defeated, suddenly spoke up, her voice low but clear. “Li Wei… do you really have the confidence to defeat Fang Tian?”
Ryan paused, glanced at her, and smiled faintly. “If I didn’t, why would I go up?”
Mu Xianling froze. She hesitated for a long moment, lips parting and closing again, before finally squeezing out a single sentence. “Then… good luck.”
Her emotions were tangled. She wanted Ryan to win because Fengyue City desperately needed this victory. But at the same time, she didn’t want him to win. If Ryan defeated Fang Tian, it would mean his strength surpassed hers completely.
And then there was that wager…
Three years as his servant.
Just thinking about it made her chest tighten.
“Hm?” Ryan was momentarily surprised by her words, then nodded lightly. “Thanks.”
Without waiting for her response, he stepped forward and leapt onto the ring. He landed opposite Fang Tian, standing straight and relaxed, meeting his opponent’s gaze from a distance.
As soon as Ryan appeared, the candidates from Lingyin City erupted with mocking voices.
“Is this your last trump card from Fengyue City?”
“Even your strongest lost. What’s the point of sending another one up?”
“Hurry up and admit defeat. Don’t waste everyone’s time.”
“You’ve already lost four matches. This fifth one won’t change anything.”
“Where did all that barking from Fengyue City go? Ever since Fan Wei lost, you’ve all gone mute.”
Their laughter and jeers echoed across the arena.
This time, the people of Fengyue City didn’t shout back. They listened in silence, faces grim and heavy. Despair weighed on the crowd like a suffocating fog.
Fang Tian looked at Ryan and smiled faintly, his confidence overflowing. “You’re the last one, huh? Hard to say whether you’re stronger or weaker than Fan Wei.”
Ryan’s expression remained serene. “Whether I’m stronger or weaker,” he replied evenly, “you’ll find out soon enough.”
The calmness in his voice was even deeper than Fang Tian’s arrogance.
Fang Tian didn’t take him seriously. Ryan, likewise, didn’t place Fang Tian in his eyes.
A mere three-star Upper Elite is nothing but a speck of dust in Ryan’s eyes.
“Oh?” Fang Tian laughed. “Then let me see what kind of trash Fengyue City saved for last. I’ll end this boring farce right now.”
His eyes flared with ferocity. In the next instant, his body shot forward.
Still the same move.
This single technique had crushed Yuan Qiong, overwhelmed Li Wujie, defeated Mu Xianling, and even injured Fan Wei in a head-on clash. Its power was unquestionable.
Fang Tian charged in a straight line, his figure blurring as he closed the distance.
Facing such a fearsome attack, the logical choice was obvious. Dodge sideways, exploit the flaw, counterattack. Li Wujie had already proven that this was the correct method.
But Ryan didn’t move.
He stood exactly where he was, just like Fan Wei had earlier, as if preparing to clash head-on.
“Hmph. Another fool blinded by arrogance.”
Fang Tian sneered inwardly. He knew better than anyone how terrifying his move was. Even Fan Wei, the pride of Fengyue City, had been forced into retreat by it.
The technique had only one weakness: it couldn’t change direction once activated. But Ryan clearly knew this and still chose to confront it head-on.
Confidence? Or stupidity?
Either way, Fang Tian was happy to oblige.
“Trying to fight me head-on? You think you’re something special?” Fang Tian’s lips curled in disdain. “Trash will always be trash. Even if you gain some strength, you can’t change your nature.”
Meanwhile, at the edge of the arena, Fan Wei had regained consciousness. His arm throbbed with unbearable pain, leaving him pale and weak, but he still forced himself to watch.
When he saw Ryan standing firm, preparing to clash directly with Fang Tian’s move, a sneer crept onto his face.
“I couldn’t even fully take that attack,” Fan Wei thought bitterly. “Does he think he can?”
In his mind, Ryan was already defeated.
But then…
The moment Fang Tian’s fist was about to land, Ryan finally moved.
He raised his arm and threw a punch.
Just a simple punch, colliding directly with Fang Tian’s fist.
Boom!
A thunderous explosion erupted. A violent shockwave burst outward from the point of impact, sweeping across the arena.
In the next instant, Fang Tian’s body trembled violently. Blood sprayed from his mouth as he was hurled backward like a broken kite.
Step after step, he stumbled uncontrollably, retreating more than ten meters before barely stopping at the very edge of the ring.
The skin on his fist was torn open, flesh mangled and bleeding.
And Ryan?
He hadn’t moved an inch.
He stood where he was, hands calmly clasped behind his back, his expression unchanged. Not a trace of strain showed on his face.
