Chapter 93: Headmaster’s office (1)
When the headmaster had handled the fallout from the announcement, the students were told to vacate the great hall in an orderly fashion. Since it was a Sunday, they were free to roam the common areas of the castle, but the mood was such that most would likely just return to their dorms.
Michael caught a pair of eyes glaring at him from below with pure hatred. He turned his gaze in time to see Braydon—their eyes locked briefly before the teen brought his thumb up to his neck and dragged it across slowly, a wordless threat.
Michael didn’t react. He had expected this after what had happened earlier that morning.
It was quite a transformation. If before, the guy had merely looked down upon him—he now bore obvious hatred. It was clear that he would be doing his all to attack Michael in the future.
As he watched the noble walk away, his gaze moved to Rudy nearby whose expression was cold. The two shared a brief nod, their conversation up in the dorms still fresh in Michael’s mind.
He had never seen such a side of Rudy before.
But because of it, Michael felt like he had a true comrade. They both had the same goals—to find the one’s responsible for their families deaths, and get revenge.
“Sorry guys, I messed up…” When the students were filtering out of the great hall, Rose turned back to the others and apologized, her head lowered.
“You did great sis…” Ren stated, patting her on the shoulder, showing a rare moment of support as her sibling.
Michael nodded, “It was a tough announcement to make. Only someone like the headmaster could have done it so smoothly.”
“Or Magnus,” Blake added, gazing out into the crowd.
“You guys should all go back to your dorms,” Michelle, the fourth year class representative suggested, “we’ll postpone the student council meeting until the royal investigation is done. Until then, remember to keep an eyes open in class—if there’s anyone planning something, report it to a professor immediately.”
Her words were met with some nods of agreement before the group dispersed.
As Michael and Melody were walking down the stairs from the raised platform, a presence appeared beside them quietly.
“Mr. Ellis, I’d like a word.” A low voice called, barely audible amongst the chatter in the hall.
“Headmaster…” Michael panicked slightly at the appearance of the powerful mage—though it was more out of guilt than it was fear.
Melody too paled, both realizing that it probably had to do with the attack on Braydon and his lackeys in the hall. The two shared a brief gaze before another voice spoke up from the other side.
“Miss Winterborne, I’d also like a word.” The tall and thin Professor Stark loomed above her, his expression unreadable.
Looks like they’ll be questioning us… Michael thought grimly.
Of course they had no choice but to agree.
The headmaster clapped his hands together and the room started to spin, making Michael’s stomach lurch in response. He instantly understood that the man had used spatial magic—something he still wasn’t used to.
When his feet finally touched solid ground, the spinning sensation in his head took a few moments to stabilize.
Michael found himself in an unfamiliar room, a wide mahogany desk in front of him with the headmaster already seated in the chair behind it.
His eyes moved curiously, scanning the circular room. It was simple, yet refined—magic lanterns scattered in the air, seemingly suspended in time, while long bookshelves filled half the walls on half the room.
The opposite side was filled with curved windows, something uncommon—yet beautiful. A quick glance was enough to see how high they were within the castle, the view breathtaking.
He could see the rolling hills in the foreground and the vast green forest that seemingly stretched endlessly. Only now that he was so high up did he realize just how large the forested area was.
“Take a seat Mr. Ellis.” The headmaster stated after a while, no sign of impatience in his voice.
Michael stiffened briefly before following the instructions and taking the arm chair in front of the desk. It was extremely comfortable, yet he was incapable of enjoying it—especially since he likely knew the direction of the conversation.
Silence stretched out between the two as the headmaster evaluated him from the other side of his mahogany desk. Yet no matter how much he studied the man’s bearded face, Michael had no idea what he was thinking.
“This morning in the halls,” Bartholomew began calmly, “we detected the use of a tier two spell—specifically of the ice element…”
His words cut straight to the matter, causing Michael to stiffen subconsciously.
“When we investigated, we saw signs of damage to the castle rug, as well as some… bodily fluids.”
Bodily fluids? Does he mean blood? Michael panicked briefly.
He hadn’t struck anyone with the ice lance, he made sure of it. But there was always room for accidents. Perhaps the ice lance had fractured upon contact with the ground, causing some shards to graze one of the boys, drawing blood.
Seeing the headmaster’s serious expression, Michael knew that the man most likely had an inkling of what had happened—therefore he decided to be upfront.
“I sent a warning to Braydon and his followers who have been quite thorough in their attempts to annoy me…” he admitted, framing his response carefully. “Though my intention was not to hurt them, just scare them a little so they think twice before acting again.”
The headmaster was silent for a few moments, his intelligent eyes evaluating Michael carefully. Then a small smirk pulled at the corner of his lips—difficult to see with the large and bushy beard attached to his face.
“I’d say you achieved your goal, young man.” He added with a touch of dry humor, “let’s just say one of the boys were so scared, he couldn’t hold in his fear…”
Michael knitted his brows for a moment in confusion, before he suddenly understood the man’s words.
Someone pissed themselves!?
He wanted to laugh, but the situation didn’t permit it. Perhaps the headmaster mightn’t have punished him, but it probably wouldn’t look good. He still wasn’t sure if he was in trouble yet, after all—being whisked away to the headmaster’s office wasn’t a great sign.
So he decided to keep his amusement inside for now, and laugh to his hearts content when relaying the story to Rudy later.
