Kee sat on the low stool pulled right up to the side of the infirmary bed, close enough that his knee brushed the white sheet.

Her lower lip trembled—then she smiled—small, watery, real. “You’re not allowed to say sweet things after calling yourself my daddy five minutes ago.”

Kee laughed—soft, relieved. “Can’t help it. You bring it out in me.”

She tugged him closer—until his forehead rested against hers. “Idiot.”

“Love you too.”

They stayed like that—foreheads touching, breathing each other in—for several long moments. The holographic duel feed droned on in the background—mana explosions, crowd cheers—but it felt far away. Irrelevant.

Mee finally spoke—voice barely above a whisper. “Kee?”

“Hmm?”

“When I’m better… will you still tease me?”

Kee grinned—unrepentant—lifting Mee’s hand to press another soft kiss to her bandaged knuckles. “Hear that, Mee? We’re defiling. Should we stop?”

Mee’s free hand flew up—covering her burning face. “Kee—!”

He chuckled—low, warm—then leaned in closer, lips brushing the shell of her ear again. “Relax. She’s just jealous. Look at her—she’s been staring at us more than the duel feed for the last five minutes.”

Sera arched one perfect brow—lips quirking higher. “Boi, I’ve been staring because you two are louder than the crowd outside. And cuter. It’s distracting.”

Mee whimpered—burying her face deeper into Kee’s shoulder. “Kill me now…”

Kee’s arm slid around her back—gentle, protective—rubbing slow circles between her shoulder blades. “Nah. I just got you. Not letting you go that easy.”

Sera snorted—turning back to the hologram, though her smirk lingered. “Young love. Disgusting. Adorable. Keep it PG-13 while I’m still in the room, yeah? I’ve got standards.”

Kee’s grin turned wicked. He lowered his voice—whispering just loud enough for Mee to hear, but not Sera. “She says PG-13… but I’m pretty sure she’d watch if we went further.”

Mee’s head snapped up—eyes wide, scandalized. “Kee!”

He laughed—soft, genuine—then pressed a quick, chaste kiss to her forehead—right above the bandage. “Kidding. Mostly.”

Mee huffed—trying to glare—but the effect was ruined by how her fingers tightened around his, how she leaned into his chest instead of pulling away. “You’re the worst.”

“And you’re still holding my hand,” he teased—lifting their joined fingers to kiss her wrist. “Guess you like the worst.”

She looked away—cheeks still flaming—but a tiny smile tugged at her lips. “Maybe.”

Sera’s voice floated over without turning. “I can still hear you, lovebirds.”

Kee called back—grinning. “Good. Maybe you’ll learn something.”

Sera laughed again—shaking her head. “Boi, I know more about romance than you’ll ever know. Now hush. Your girlfriend needs rest, not your terrible flirting.”

Mee mumbled into his shoulder—barely audible. “She’s not wrong…”

Kee’s thumb resumed its slow circles over her knuckles. “Rest then.”

“Boi… If I remember correctly,” she drawled, “your fight is up right after this one.”

Kee and Mee locked eyes.

Mee’s voice came out soft, almost fragile.

“Kee… Show them hell. I’ll be fine.”

Kee exhaled through his nose, the sound heavy. “I’ll take you up on that.”

Mee turned her head toward Sera.

“Nurse Veyne… could you maybe look the other way for a second?”

Sera’s lips curved, slow and teasing.

She turned her face toward the window, deliberately dramatic, one hand resting lightly over her eyes like she was posing for a photoshoot.

Mee’s gaze flicked back to Kee.

In the next heartbeat she leaned forward, cupped his face with both hands, and kissed him—deep, urgent, like she was pouring every unsaid thing into it.

Kee froze for half a second, then kissed her back just as hard, one hand sliding to the nape of her neck, the other gripping the edge of the bed like it was the only thing keeping him grounded.

When they finally broke apart, both were breathing hard, foreheads pressed together.

“What… was that?” Kee managed, voice rough.

Mee’s laugh was small and shy, cheeks flushed. “Good luck.”

She paused, then added even quieter,

“Now go.”

Kee nodded once—sharp, decisive.

He stood, crossed the two steps to the door, and paused with his hand on the handle. His eyes never left her.

“Ms. Veyne,” he said without turning, “please look after her.”

Sera dropped the playful act for a moment, voice steady. “Rest assured, lover boy. Your adorable little girlfriend is safe with me.”

Kee gave a short, grateful nod.

“Thanks.”

The door clicked shut behind him.

Silence settled over the room.

Mee let out a long, trembling breath and sank back against the pillows. She pulled Kee’s blazer up over her face until only her eyes were visible, burying her nose in the collar. His scent—clean sweat, faint cedar, something unmistakably him—wrapped around her like a second heartbeat.

“I hope he’ll be okay,” she whispered into the fabric.

Sera studied her for a long moment, all traces of sultry mischief gone.

“You love him a lot.”

Mee gave the tiniest nod, eyes still hidden in the blazer. “Hm.”

“How long?”

Mee’s voice came out muffled, almost childlike. “Since I can remember.”

Sera let out a quiet breath that might have been a laugh, might have been something softer.

“Good.”

She pushed off the wall and moved toward her.

“Then he’s got something worth coming back for. And trust me, sweetheart—boys like that don’t lose when they’ve got a reason like you waiting.”
