“I am a human,at least I was born one,” Max began. “As for where I come from, I can’t tell you because I don’t know what would happen if I did. I hope you can understand.”
Lucifer’s eyes faded back to their normal black as he reclined in his seat.
“I thought you’d shed some light this time,” he said. “But it seems you haven’t changed one bit. Still as determined as ever to save your family.”
He tilted his head slightly.
“It’s not that you don’t want to tell me because the information is dangerous or because of what I would do with it. It’s because of what you think it would do to me… which makes me all the more curious. But I guess it will forever remain a mystery.”
Then Lucifer snapped his fingers.
Max’s consciousness was ripped from his body.
He found himself in a shimmering void, immediately overwhelmed by suffocating levels of power. He saw visible ripples across reality caused by the immense force of two beings clashing, beings he couldn’t even perceive directly. With every impact, powerful shockwaves spread through the void like waves across water.
Although he couldn’t recognize the other presence, he was certain of one thing.
One of them was him.the energy signature was exactly the same as his.
So the other one must be…The Anti-Monitor.
Meanwhile
Nina was a crimson blur around Darkseid, who stood at the center of a tornado formed by the sheer speed of her movement. She circled him rapidly, searching for an opening.
Then, suddenly, she went on the offensive.
She threw a powerful punch, sending a column of compressed air hurtling toward Darkseid at blinding speed. He made no move to evade. The blast struck him head-on, pushing him back slightly, his feet digging into the ground.
He finally acknowledged the force behind her attacks, but to him, it was nothing more than a nuisance.
Before he could react, Nina was already behind him.
“Second Step,” she muttered.
She threw another punch, releasing a second blast of air, then vanished. The attack struck Darkseid in the back, pinning him momentarily against the first.
Nina continued her assault, dashing around him at extreme speeds, unleashing punch after punch, each one stronger than the last.
After landing six consecutive strikes, she decided to go all in.
“Take this!” she shouted, putting all her strength into a final punch.Darkseid responded in kind as their fists collided.
Boom!
The ground beneath Darkseid exploded, instantly forming a massive crater. The sleeve of Nina’s armor on her right arm was shredded to pieces. She grimaced in pain, feeling a fracture form in her arm,but she gritted her teeth and pushed forward.
She tried to throw another punch, but Darkseid was faster.
Before her attack could land, his fist shot forward and struck her square in the chest.
Boom!
Nina’s armor shattered completely, leaving her in a black suit. Blood burst from her mouth as her eyes widened, and she was sent flying into the sky.
Midair, she regained control.
Clenching her fists, she unleashed a barrage of rapid punches toward Darkseid below, each one sending compressed air crashing down on him.
Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom!
Dust rose into the air as the relentless assault continued. Blood began to drip from Nina’s nose, the strain of the Eighth Gate taking its toll. The fractures in her arm worsened with every strike.
After a full minute of bombardment, she finally stopped.
The dust slowly cleared, revealing a massive crater stretching over two hundred meters, but Darkseid was nowhere to be seen.
Nina immediately went on high alert, her eyes scanning the battlefield.
When her instincts screamed at her to move but it was alredy too late.
Darkseid appeared above her.
His punch came down instantly, striking her square in the face. The impact created a powerful shockwave in the air as Nina was sent hurtling toward the ground, crashing into it with devastating force.
A massive cloud of dust erupted.
Darkseid’s eyes flared red as he unleashed his Omega Beams. They zigzagged through the air, striking directly where Nina had fallen.
He descended immediately after, the force of his landing creating a gust of wind that blew the dust away, revealing nothing.
Nina was nowhere to be seen.
Then, suddenly, she reappeared a few hundred meters away.
Still in the Eighth Gate but something was different, her left eye was slowly drifting shut on its own.
It looked strange, especially with the fact that his Omega Beams hadn’t dealt any visible damage to her. It seemed she had managed to evade them.
No matter, Darkseid thought.
He blasted forward and caught up to her in seconds. Nina barely managed to move out of the way as he crashed into the spot she had just occupied. Before she could create distance, his arm shot out from the smoke and grabbed her legs with a massive hand.
He slammed her into the ground, once, twice.
Then he yanked her up and released her, already pulling his fist back.
Nina reacted instantly, raising both arms to guard as Darkseid punched.
Boom!
It was like a bomb had gone off. Nina was sent flying, skipping across the ground multiple times before barely regaining her bearings, only for two Omega Beams to slam into her arms, pushing her even farther back. She tumbled uncontrollably before crashing into the side of a mountain.
Boom!
The mountain shook violently, threatening to collapse.
Nina dropped to one knee and vomited blood. Her vision blurred as she tried to push herself up,but she couldn’t feel her arms.
She looked down.
They were burned, broken in several places. If the nerves hadn’t already been destroyed, the pain would have been unbearable. She could feel them healing… slowly, too slowly, must be the effects of his Omega Beams.
She was already struggling, and without her arms, she was no different from a sitting duck.
As that realization sank in, a white substance began to rise from the ground, wrapping around her body.
She didn’t resist because knew who it was.
Zetsu.
He fully engulfed her, forming a white layer of armor over her body. Almost immediately, Nina felt her arms begin to heal faster.
“What are you doing here, Zetsu? You need to leave,” Nina said as she slowly stood up.
“I’m sorry, but I can’t do that,” Zetsu replied. “I can’t just stand by and watch you die when I can help. We just need to buy time until Max returns, and I can add to that time, even if it’s not much.”
“You’ll die, Zetsu,” Nina said.
“Then so be it,” he answered firmly. “Because I won’t let you fight him alone.”
Nina took a deep breath.
“…Alright then. You focus on healing me,leave the rest to me.”
“Alright,” Zetsu said. “Here he comes.”
