Chapter 18: The Big Gun

Marcus pulled the trigger.

The noise was huge. It sounded like a bomb going off in the street. Fire shot out of the big gun.

A very large bullet flew straight at Ren.

Ren did not blink. He knew he had to move. He used his skill.

[Dash Activated]

Ren stepped to the side. The world went blurry for one second.

He was fast, but the bullet was faster.

It missed his heart. But it hit his left arm.

The bullet tore right through his hard grey skin. It ripped a chunk of meat away.

Ren felt hot pain. It burned like fire. He fell back one step. Blood dripped down his arm and hit the street.

The bullet hit the ground behind him. It made a deep hole in the black road.

Ren looked at his arm. The meat was healing very slowly.

He looked up at Marcus. He smiled. His teeth had blood on them from the monster he ate before.

“You missed,” Ren said. His voice was cold.

Marcus looked shocked. He stood high up on top of the dead cars.

“No one dodges my bullet,” Marcus said. He looked angry.

He pulled the bolt on his big gun to load another bullet.

Click-clack.

He aimed at Ren again. He aimed right for his head.

Ren did not wait this time. He started to run.

He ran very fast. His new speed made him feel like the wind. His boots hit the street hard.

He ran right at the tall wall of cars.

Marcus fired his gun again.

Bang.

The bullet hit a yellow taxi next to Ren. Glass exploded into tiny pieces. Metal bent.

Ren did not stop. He reached the bottom of the car wall.

He jumped up.

He flew high into the air. He landed on the side of a white van.

He did not fall down. He used his other skill.

[Skill Activated: Wall Run]

He ran up the side of the cars. He stepped on doors. He stepped on broken windows. He moved like a fast spider going up a wall.

Marcus panicked. He saw Ren coming up so fast.

Marcus dropped his big gun. He reached to his belt. He pulled out a large knife. The knife was strange. It glowed with a bright green light.

Ren reached the top of the wall. He stood on the roof of a police car.

He looked at Marcus. They were very close now.

Marcus swung the green knife at Ren. “Stay back, freak!”

The knife cut the air. It left a green trail behind it. It smelled like sick chemicals. It was thick poison.

Ren did not care about the poison. He had poison resistance from the big snake he ate.

He stepped inside the swing. He let the knife hit his jacket. It burned the cloth, but it did not hurt his skin.

Ren raised his hands.

[Skill Activated: Rending Claws]

His nails grew fast. They turned into long, black metal knives. They looked very sharp.

He hit Marcus in the chest. He hit him hard.

The black claws went right through the thick green jacket. They went through the skin. They went through the bone.

Marcus gasped loudly. His eyes went very wide. He dropped the glowing green knife. It fell on the police car.

“You… you are a monster,” Marcus whispered. Blood came out of his mouth.

“I am hungry,” Ren said.

He ripped his hands out. He pulled hard.

Blood sprayed all over the cars. It covered Ren’s face.

Marcus fell down. He was dead before he hit the roof.

Ren looked at the dead body. A Level 9 human player. This was very good food. The best he had found.

He knelt down next to the body. He did not care that Chloe could see him from the green truck down below.

He used his black claws. He cut the chest open. He reached inside. He pulled out a big piece of the liver. It was dark red and warm.

He ate it. He did not chew much. He just swallowed it down.

It tasted like cold iron and salt.

Ren blinked his eyes. They felt very cold for a second.

He looked past the wall of cars. He looked deep into the bad city.

He could see very far now. He could see the big Stadium. It was many miles away. But he could see the people walking on the high walls. He could see the guns they held. He could see the flags blowing in the wind.

“Perfect,” Ren said to himself.

He looked down at the dead man’s things. He picked up the big gun.

It was very heavy. It was dark black. It had a huge scope on top made of glass and metal.

Ren put the big gun on his back. He would give this to Chloe. It was much better than her gun.

He looked around the top of the wall. He saw a small metal box next to a sleeping bag. He opened the box.

Inside, there were keys. There was also a map.

Ren looked down at the cars in the wall. One of the big city buses looked different. It was parked at the bottom. It had thick metal plates welded onto the windows. It looked like a small tank.

Ren took the keys. He jumped down from the top of the cars. He landed softly on the street.

He walked over to the armored bus. He put the key in the door. It opened.

He climbed inside. He put the key in the ignition. He turned it.

The big bus engine turned on. It made a very loud, deep noise. Black smoke came out of the back.

Ren smiled.

He walked out of the bus. He walked back to the green truck. Chloe was sitting inside. She was holding her gun tight. She looked very scared.

“Is the man dead?” she asked. Her voice was shaking.

“Yes,” Ren said. “He is gone. I got a new ride for us. Follow me.”

Ren went back to the armored bus. He sat in the big driver’s seat. He closed the door.

He put the bus in gear. He stepped hard on the gas pedal.

The heavy bus moved forward. It hit the other cars in the wall. It pushed them out of the way. It made a very loud noise. Metal scraped against metal. Glass broke.

The wall of cars broke open. A path was clear now.

Ren drove the bus through the big hole.

Chloe followed right behind him in the green truck.

They drove to the other side of the wall.

Zone Two was waiting for them.

Ren looked out the front window of the bus. The street ahead was full of fire and dark shadows. The buildings were ruined.

He felt very strong. He was Level 8 now. His arm was already healing.

He looked at the city. He was ready to eat everything in his way.
