Chapter 3: The Survivor

The cafeteria was quiet.

​Ren stood over Brad’s body. The other two zombies hesitated.

​They knew he was dangerous.

​Ren grinned. “Come on.”

​The zombie on the left attacked. It was wearing a ripped Physics shirt.

​Ren used his new skill.

​He moved instantly. One second he was there, the next he was three meters away.

​The zombie missed. It crashed into a table.

​Ren stepped forward. He stabbed the knife into its neck.

​Thud.

​It dropped dead.

​The last zombie tried to run away. It headed for the door.

​”Oh no,” Ren said. “You don’t get to leave.”

​He chased it. He was fast now. He caught it by the shirt and yanked it back.

​He smashed its head into the wall.

​Crack.

​It fell down. Ren finished it with the knife.

​Ren wiped his knife on his pants. He was breathing hard.

​He looked around. The place was a mess.

​”P-please…”

​A voice came from under the salad bar.

​Ren spun around.

​”Come out,” he said.

​A girl crawled out. It was Chloe. She was the vice president of the Student Council.

​She was shaking. She looked at the bodies. Then she looked at Ren.

​”You… you ate him,” she whispered. “I saw you.”

​Ren didn’t deny it. “He was dead.”

​”You’re a monster,” she cried. She curled up in a ball.

​”Shut up,” Ren said. “You want to attract more of them?”

​Chloe covered her mouth. She was crying silently.

​Ren looked at her.

​[Survivor (Lvl 1)]

​She was weak. Useless in a fight.

​But she had keys around her neck. The keys to the building.

​”I need those keys,” Ren said. “We’re going to the roof.”

​”Why?” she asked.

​”Because this place is a trap,” Ren said. “Stand up.”

​Chloe stood up slowly. She was terrified of him.

​”Don’t slow me down,” Ren warned.

​He opened the double doors.

​The hallway was dark. The lights flickered.

​Ren stopped.

​He heard a sound down the hall.

​Hiss.

​It was loud. Like a giant tire leaking air.

​Ren gripped his knife.

​”Finally,” he whispered. “Something big.”
