” I call it, the Non Magic Automatic Propeller, cool right?” She grinned with pride.

” No, no it’s not cool, that’s a terrible name.”

She pouted, ” I hate you.”

He turned his attention to the papers again.

” I do have to admit though, this is genius, to think you could create an engine after just a few lessons.”

” Engine?” She asked raising her eyebrows.

” Yeah, it’s the most basic steam engine and still needs a few adjustments but this is still more amazing than anything I’ve ever expected from you.”

” So you never believed in me?* She looked sad.

” Of course I did but this still exceeded my expectations.”

Lucy smiled happily, ” Thank you, I’m a genius aren’t I?”

He nodded, ” Indeed you are, I’ll have Sam see to this.”

They called Sam and the three of them worked together to design a rail system leading to the second layer.

That way the miners won’t have to carry the ores all the way up. Since the tunnel was not very long.

Laying down the rails wouldn’t take long with the physical attributes of warriors. After they were done Sam left.

He started working on the engine, making a demonstration model at first before starting making the real thing.

Forging the minor parts of an engine would take some practice even for him with his ability to basically talk to metals.

A few more days passed, these past few days he had been thinking about going out, they had been trapped here for too long.

When he presented his idea to the others they refused with everything they got. They couldn’t go out during the day and the night was very dangerous.

Then he pointed out that they were no longer the weak people they were, they wielded enough power to deal with their enemies now.

And according to Viona, this region was relatively safe compared to others. The avarage rank of night dwellers around here was low.

The strong ones were most concentrated near the heart of the Red Sun Empire. So she was the only one to agree with him.

She too hated being cooped up here all the time. Plus she needed something to fight to deal with her shame after fainting Infront of an enemy and putting herself and everybody in danger.

At least that what she told herself and him but he knew that was just an excuse,she was just eager for a fight.

” If I may.” Sam spoke, they all turned towards him. ” Going outside would be pointless.

Even if we defeat the night dwellers, by morning we would still need to run back here, it’s a pointless endeavour.”

They all nodded agreeing with him, Khali shook his head. ” Not necessarily, what if we build something that can block out the sun?”

Lucy and Sam looked intrigued, ” Are you talking about houses, there would be no point if we’re just going to be trapped in them instead of here.”

He shook his head, ” I was thinking of something like a glass dome, if we make it with frosted glass.

It can filter out like 80 to 90 percent of the harmful sun radiation allowing enough sunlight come in but not enough to be harmful.

We could also make the glass tempered, add metal mana stone in the mix to make it much stronger.

That way it would be hard to break even for the night dwellers, yes that sounds like a great idea.” He started talking to himself with excitement.

When he was done he looked and saw everybody giving him strange looks. ” What? Is something wrong with my face?”

” You… can make glass?” Lucy asked with excitement. He nodded, ” Of course, it’s not that complicated.”

” Not that complicated?” She sounded angry. ” Do you have any idea how expensive glass is in the empire, only a few specialized mages are able to create it and you’re saying, it’s not that complicated.”

He shrugged, ” It’s really not,I’m more surprised nobody in your empire has figured out how to make it.

Earth mages should’ve figured that out a long time ago, they’re quite incompetent if you ask me.” Everybody shook their heads.

” What do you need?” Viona asked.

” Sand, I need sand.” He replied, she nodded.

” That’s easy, we’ll just go outside and grab it.” Now it was her turn to be looked at like she was crazy.

Night came and for the first time in around two months the door was opened. Outside they didn’t see anything.

They had expected to see Clickers and wraiths but there was nothing. Khali looked up and saw a soul shaking sight.

The moon was shattered into thousands of fragments and was floating above the world like a fallen knight.

He could barely see any stars in the night sky. He sighed, ” This universe is dying.” He whispered with sadness.

He had been to countless universes but this one held a special place in his heart, because this was his home.

It was the first ever universe he and his siblings created to escape living under the rules of their parents.

Of course that was a pointless endeavour, they could never escape but at least this place felt like home.

And now it was dying which could only mean one thing. The flame of divinity that burnt at the centre of the silver city was dying.

He gritted his teeth, if that flame went out, all of creation would follow. Every universe and every realm they had ever created.

Including his realm of the dreaming, life itself would end and all that would remain is that which was in the before.

The dreadful silence, and his parents who preceded the flame itself. He couldn’t allow that.

Then he looked at the world around him and all he saw was devastation and death. Endless desert that stretched to the horizon.

Far in the distance he could see a barren mountain. A crack as wide as mountains could also be seen on the ground stretching to the horizon.

This world had no hope, he could never reach enough power to save it before it crumbled on itself or devoured by it sun.

He sighed, he felt the urgency of leaving this world more clearly now and at least they have taken the first step with the engine.

They went down the mountain, the cave entrance was only a few metres above ground.

Laying on a gentle slope, they went down and started collecting sand. Then he and Viona looked at each other.

Something’s coming.
