Chapter 35: Chapter 35: Two Years
Khali took a deep breath and absorbed the surrounding mana. The circle of golden sand around him shone with solf gold light.
The mana formed a visible vortex around him startling those standing nearby. A few moments later there was a pop.
However he was not done, he continued absorbing more and more mana and after a few more minutes there was another pop.
He finally opened his eyes and took a deep breath. The vortex of mana was absorbed into him rapidly and disappeared.
Black smoke rose from his body stinking up the entire place. It had been two years since he got here and he finally reached the knight/Acolyte realm.
He sighed, the low ambient mana density made his cultivation very slow. He looked inside him.
On his glabella and abdomen, the areas where his primary mana nodes for mage path and warrior path respectively, used to be were now vortexes.
The rest of the mana nodes had also disappeared, his mana pathways had grown wider and more clean allowing for easier and faster passage of mana.
He could also feel his awakened spell and technique. In the past two years he had never bothered to learn any new spell or technique related to his primary affinity.
Learnt spells below rank 3 could never match the power of awakened spells. Not to mention awakened spells and techniques can grow alongside their user.
His new spell was called Whisper of Dreams, it was occult magic. It allowed him to trap ones mind in a dreamscape.
However it was different from his first spell, it didn’t require eye contact but it required preparations.
Creating something called an ritual circle, almost all occult magic needed one. Then using something with deep connection to the target you can trap them in a dream.
It could either be something of deep sentimental value but the most effective is something with their DNA like blood or hair.
There was no limit to distance and the only way to break free is if he let you out, he dies or you have a soul and or will stronger than his.
Considering he was now a rank 1 divinity , his soul was much stronger than his rank would suggest.
Infact his soul was only weak because it power was sealed so his body would not turn to dust.
Whichever one of his siblings put him in this body was thorough. However even sealed it was still very powerful.
Strong enough to match that of a rank 3 expert. He would struggle with an above average or high order true mage but not so much with a Holy Knight or officially known as a Paladin.
That’s because mages in general had stronger souls than warriors. However it was still impressive by human standards though he considered his current level of power a major disappointment.
A disgrace even, unfortunately there was nothing he could do except try to get stronger as fast as he could.
The technique on the other hand was called Dream step. It ability was hard to put into words.
The ability allows him to overlap his body with the dream realm. He can still be interacted with in the real world.
However due to the difference in the flow of time between the two realm he can basically make time flow slower for him.
How much slower depends on his own strength and the slower he makes it the more mana and physical strain he will feel.
The ability was incredibly powerful, on top of basically slowing down time it can also delay the perception and every senses others had towards him.
Whether it’d be sight, smell, touch or hearing. That move was a bit easier to use and needed less mana and physical strength to use.
But the technique only worked if he was moving, the moment he stopped it stops as well.
He couldn’t test his spell yet but he very much can test his technique. He stood up and looked around him.
Soft sunlight brushed against his soft dark skin. His long black hair cascaded down to his back.
He smiled seeing how far they had come, the glass dome had spread to cover over 15 kilometres Infront of the mountain.
Infact calling it a dome wasn’t exactly accurate, it was more intricate and finely made.
It was a complex structure with different rooms and sectors. There was an outer structure though, a defensive perimeter.
A hexagonal structure made of densely reinforced glass. The sand that made the glass was infused with metal mana stone powder.
So the glass itself was as durable as steel but still as rigid as glass. The outer layer was not made of frosted glass like the inner layer.
Instead it was made of one way mirror windows. At least the walls were, the roof of the outer layer had solar panels.
At least some part while most of it was clear allowing some sunlight to pass through. The solar panels provided electricity for the rest of the stronghold.
And they were quite in need of it, he, Lucy and Sam had built a lot of machines in the past two years.
Sam found it harder to keep up with what he claimed was rapid progress, Lucy on the other hand was having a blast.
He walked around the dome and went to the sector away from the mountain. It was called the industrial sector where most of the machinery were.
In one of those rooms, the largest room under the dome were rows of heavy machines with wheels.
They were automobiles. Some were large armoured trucks with six wheels but most were smaller armoured military cars.
Each was mounted with heavy guns and on their roofs were solar panels. Since they didn’t have fuel these cars had two power sources.
The steam engine as a backup source and an electric battery as the primary source. Each car was made of rank 2 reinforced steel.
However Sam as a rank 1 smith couldn’t make rank 2 artefacts, so while the cars were made of rank 2 steel, their defensive power couldn’t match up.
They were definitely strong enough to shrug off attacks from rank 1 spells but they could barely take on rank 2 attacks by his estimate.
Making the tires was the hardest part of the cars, they lacked a lot of chemicals for them but he was able to use what they had.
Behind the tires were curved plates that resembled wider skis. They were able to slid under the wheels for when driving on sand and pulling behind them when driving on hard ground.
