Chapter 46: Chapter 46: Thermobaric
He told Sam to continue working on the alloy and Lucy happily volunteered to help him. With her he was certain the project would not take as long.
He had his people teach the new people the ropes, for his plans he was going to need manpower.
First he had them learn how to read, write and do basic maths. They would learn the more advanced stuff later.
For now he needed them to be good enough to follow orders, read blueprints and other useful information for their tasks.
Just like that a month passed since they arrived and they looked much much healthier than before.
While they were not awakened, they were still strong due to the nutritional food they had been eating everyday.
A month later he started the expansion project, they were going to extend the dome by at least 10 kilometres.
Which meant the glass makers were going to be working overtime. Fortunately with new recruits that work was made a bit easier.
He estimated it would take about four to six months to finish the project then they would build the school.
In the meantime he was working on building the first ever computer. Everything they’ve done until now had been done without one.
After that he would make copying and printing machines. He can’t have them write books by hand.
The computer project was not too hard, he had already made a lot of the necessary components.
He was building a basic computer for now, but five years from now he planned to have a super computer.
Nightfall came and as always they had to face the night dwellers. However it was different in the past month.
It was as if they were drawn to the large number of people. Hordes after hordes came at them.
They were weak so he didn’t even involve himself, the soldiers could easily take care of them.
As a matter of fact, even normal people joined the fight. While they couldn’t handle the recoil of guns, they can use the mounted ones.
He could hear the guns blazing and the men shouting, they had turned a situation that used to be dangerous and dreadful into a sports.
Since the introduction of the currency system of coins, they had been betting on who could kill most monsters.
Sometimes betting on who could shoot down the furthest one, especially those who were using snipers.
However a young man suddenly ran into his lab while he was still working, he was currently in the process of photolithography.
The man stopped just outside the controlled room and called out. Khali went out a bit annoyed, ” This better be very important.”
The man gulped, ” Sir there are dravals sir.” Khali raised an eyebrow, he felt annoyance rise inside him.
” That’s why you had to disturb me? You have missiles, use them.” He turned around to leave but the man looked like he had more to say, ” What?” Khali asked.
” It…it’s a whole pack of them sir.” Khali stopped, ’ Pack? I’ve never heard of that.’ he looked at the young man.
” How many?” He asked, the man gulped in fear but not towards him, it was obvious what he saw shook him.
” So far, we’ve… we’ve counted 26.” The man answered in a shaky voice. Khali paused.
” That doesn’t sound right.” According to both Samantha and Lucy, Dravals don’t travel in packs.
When they do it’s usually just the parents and their offspring but when the offspring reaches adulthood they leave, find a mate and travel with them.
So many of them at the same place meant something else was going on. He went outside and when he got there he felt the dome shake.
Outside he could see them, due to the nature of one sided mirrors, one side had to be brighter than the other.
So they had placed many lanterns outside, luch larger and brighter than the ones inside, that way the one sided mirrors would still work as intended.
Through them he saw the dravals ramming their heads into the glass wall, retreat and repeat, fortunately the tempered glass was too strong.
However it couldn’t hold forever, not against rank 2 dravals, eventually the glass would break and that would be bad.
Their guns bounced off their thick skins, most were rank 1 draval with the largest being rank 2.
Some even stronger than the one they faced before. The younger rank 1 Dravals were still wounded by the bullets but the bullets couldn’t pierce deep enough to kill them.
” Fire the missile.” The soldiers loaded the missile and fired. It roared as it shot towards them leaving a red trail behind.
The missile exploded sending a wave of fire spreading in every direction. Fire and smoke rose to the sky.
The draval and other monsters were sent crashing on the desert, most of them dying from the impact.
The blast radius of the missile was hundreds of metres and all the monsters caught within died.
When the smoke and dust cleared the results were shown, all the other monsters and most of the younger draval died.
The older Draval cried in pain as they mourned their young but Khali felt no pity, it was they who attacked them first.
He watched them coldly, ” Launch the thermobaric bomb?” He ordered, the soldiers looked at him.
” Sir?” They asked with confusion, he glared at them with cold eyes.
” I said launch the vacuum bomb.” He repeated, the soldier hesitated but Garo and Amelia stood forward.
Their expressions were cold without a sign of pity. To them these Draval were monsters who would’ve killed them without mercy.
It wasn’t they who went looking for a fight, the dravals attacked them first so they saw no issue killing them.
They fired the vacuum bombs, Khali had created them only a few months ago. The draval saw them coming but it was too late.
They were individually smaller than the missile but their advantage lay in numbers and the fact that they suck in oxygen when they explode spreading the flames even more.
They landed and carpeted the entire area for hundreds of metres. Flames covered the desert like an orange cloud.
They could hear the dying throes of the draval, some showed pity but most did not, they hated monsters after all they have lost to them.
It was those who showed them pity who were strange. When the flames died out, the draval appeared or rather their charred corpses.
