With Cynthia yet to arrive, Hikaru took some time to add new facilities to his workshop. Now armed with quick-assembly knowledge, his construction speed had skyrocketed, allowing him to complete projects that were once difficult with relative ease.
Stone, wood, ice, steel, spirit world materials, berries, and herbs could all be gathered limitlessly from Pokémon Ruins Town. Hikaru would trade his crafted goods to the Pokémon living there, forming a mutually beneficial, win-win relationship.
The old wooden shed originally meant to shield Regirock from the rain was completely repurposed by Hikaru into a new structure.
It gleamed brightly, made of large panels of glass forming a crystalline greenhouse—a durable and transparent structure. It created a nearly perfect environment for plants to grow, with stable temperature, humidity, and lighting. Even the ancient cold of Ecruteak could no longer harm them.
Crafted Building: Ancient Greenhouse (Style of Ancient Cities & Ecruteak Ruins)
Description: A greenhouse exuding ancient charm, constructed with special ruin techniques. The glass structure provides excellent light and aesthetic appeal. Due to the unique climate and soil within, it can cultivate many ancient crops and enhance their growth. Plants within never wither and continuously yield throughout all seasons.
Effects: +200% plant growth speed, +100% quality, taste, deliciousness, and happiness. Temperature, humidity, and light adjust automatically. Even the most delicate seeds can thrive here.
“Greenhouse Climate” Effect: Grass-, Water-, Fairy-, Psychic-, Ground-, and Dragon-type Pokémon will feel calm here. It’s ideal for their development.
Hikaru scooped up a handful of soil. This had been transported from near the Iceberg Ruins and proliferated with his prior soil-crafting knowledge. Soon, a brand-new patch of ancient soil had formed!
It could also be used to rebalance the ecosystem on the floating islands in the Distortion World.
Material: Ancient Peat Soil
Description: Soil from an ancient era, now transformed into peat—the precursor of coal. Though only minimally coalified, it enhances fertility, promotes growth, and improves soil structure.
Effects: Improves soil quality and boosts plant growth. When dried, it can serve as fuel. Dry it into coal blocks and give them to Ursaring to trigger evolution into Ursaluna. Peat soil crafted through soil-tech also strengthens Ground-type energy: +20% to Ground-type move power. Pokémon that consume soil as food will grow stronger. Best when paired with Rich Earth Meals.
Naturally, the greenhouse would be used to grow important plants—like Sitrus Berries, Pecha Berries, and Gracidea Flowers. Though he also wanted to grow Revival Herbs, Heal Herbs, and Royal Leaves, space was currently limited and materials for a second greenhouse weren’t available yet.
Plus, Royal Leaves were highly cold-resistant—some even preferred cold climates—so the warm greenhouse might not suit them.
Revival Herbs, however, grew in all sorts of climates—from the warm and humid Hoenn and Alola regions to the snowy lands of Sinnoh and Ecruteak.
“There are many ancient plants with useful properties in the world. I’ll pick some up while traveling.”
Hikaru released Grotle!
“Ha-yah!”
Grotle was thrilled with the greenhouse environment—perfect for its growth. The red shrub on its back swayed and soon bore a strange fruit resembling an acorn.
Ash and his friends had once tasted this fruit in the anime—ordinary in flavor, but Mukubird and other bird Pokémon loved it. Hikaru popped one in his mouth; it was labeled Grotle’s Fruit.
Taste and effects?
He felt a slight surge of energy. Could this be a mutation caused by coexisting with Power Herb? Plants grown on Grotle’s back could sometimes mutate, and it looked like even their fruits now had new properties. Might be good steeped into tea.
With greenhouse, berries, and rare growable plants, one essential tool was still missing.
A sprinkler!
Although drip irrigation via plastic piping was more efficient—delivering water directly to roots through micro-holes—how could he not make one now that he had the knowledge?
Crafted Item: Cheap Sprinkler
Description: Connect it to a river using a hose, and it will water nearby plots every morning. Downside: fragile. Keep Electric-types away!
If powered by a Water Gem, it works without river connection. However, this will consume the Water Gem’s energy, turning it into a normal rock afterward.
“No need for a pump? Just spraying water with elemental energy—like a built-in Water Gun or Rain Dance!”
While convenient, the actual need was low. Ruins Town was already connected to the workshop, and Pokémon like Hisuian Electrode who knew Rain Dance could summon rain just by rolling across the field.
Still… what if he modified it?
Several hours later:
Machine Creation: Cheap Watering Robot (Blastoise Form)
Description: A Blastoise-shaped agricultural robot built from various materials. Can irrigate, plow, and carry heavy loads. The water cannon is shaped like Hydro Pump turrets. Converts electricity into power but must be remote-controlled.
Defects: Nearly defenseless against physical moves like Iron Tail. May explode on destruction. Reckless control or rushed commands could cause malfunction or short-circuit. (After all, it’s a cheap product.)
Fire-hardened parts grant this tool a bonus effect:
Effect: +20% irrigation efficiency. Can trigger a rainbow when spraying enough water, increasing plant happiness and accelerating growth.
Note: Do not place near graveyards or Ghost-rich areas—it may attract a Rotom, causing system hijack and damage!
No matter how flashy the design, it was still a Team Rocket-style machine—always remote-controlled, never automatic.
Hikaru tested it and found it worked well—very powerful.
Charging wasn’t a problem either. He had Regieleki and the other elemental golems in Ruins Town. Lightning, Charge Beam, Thunder—electricity was never in short supply in Ecruteak’s forests.
This tech was built to catch Pikachu. Converting electricity into energy was the bare minimum. But one Iron Tail or Crunch and it’d be toast.
“But having a robot really makes things easier.”
“The note said it could attract Rotom… wait, that’s it!” Hikaru clapped in realization.
Boom!
If he got a Rotom—or a Porygon—it could possess the robot. Instant automation!
Rotom—washing machine form?
No, Blastoise form!
In the manga, there really had been an instance where a Rotom entered a large robot body.
Maybe… he could catch one?
Modern devices like Rotom Phones and Rotomi PCs had all been developed based on Rotom’s ability to possess electronics. These were civilian-use Rotom, not suited for battle—artificial Pokémon designed for public service.
As for Porygon… due to certain reasons, research seemed to have stalled.
Hikaru then renovated the farmlands and herb beds—adding sturdy hardwood fences with carved symbols that unified the structures, generating special environmental bonuses.
Crafted Building: Ancient Farm
Description: A farm built using ancient woodworking techniques. Includes farmland, herb beds, and orchards. All hardwood fences are carved with mysterious patterns, creating special environmental effects. Plants here grow faster and better, especially older ones. Fertility increases over time. Ground, Grass, and Water energies interact intensely with the soil. Bonus effects with electricity. Must be maintained—neglect will cause the farm to decay.
Effects: +100% fertility, +50% product quality, -90% soil degradation.
“Field Blessing” Effect: Ground-, Grass-, Water-, and Electric-type Pokémon grow better here. +100% happiness, +50% cleverness, +50% stamina.
Suggestion: Install lightning rods.
He also added a large scarecrow, some Torchic-shaped weather vanes, and experimentally installed Trainer and Spirit World Mailboxes, plus a Weather Stevenson Screen—first crafted in the Distortion World.
Crafted Building: Stone Stevenson Screen (Primitive Craft)
Description: A stone box meant to hold weather stones. Built on a mysterious engraved base with primitive carvings. Doesn’t predict weather on its own, but adding a Xatu statue will allow Future Sight to become Weather Forecast.
Effect: Pokémon using weather moves near the box extend their effect duration and area. Different poses or Berry offerings can modify the weather.
Note: With the right carving style from the “Burial Tower,” and the acquisition of Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, or Rainbow Meteorite, unlock weather modes: Harsh Sunlight, Heavy Rain, Air Lock, or Turbulence.
The Burial Tower was a tall ruin behind Azure City in Johto—built by ancient Hoenn settlers to worship Groudon, Kyogre, and Rayquaza.
“There sure are a lot of ruins in Johto. I should check them out while traveling.”
Once the farm was complete, it immediately attracted numerous Grass-types. Hikaru saw Bellossom, Paras, Chikorita, and Sunkern gather. Even Cherubi and Cherrim arrived, happily soaking in sunlight—petals unfolding like pink suns.
These Pokémon benefited the farm’s ecology. But not all were welcome.
On the Mago Berry tree, a few Burmy appeared. They built cloaks using twigs and leaves for warmth—but as far as the tree was concerned, they were pests.
In Kalos’s Berry fields, Burmy were well-documented threats to crops. But they weren’t malicious—just looking for shelter.
Hikaru gently picked them off the branches. They didn’t resist—just stared blankly at him. Sensing his strong botanical aura, they even mistook him for a walking tree and tried to cling to his back.
So, he relocated them to a giant oak he’d transplanted from the Oak Forest. That tree, now fully matured, towered over the area, providing shade for an entire field. The Burmy happily clung to it and swayed peacefully.
Lilligant waved her leafy arms excitedly on the other end of the field. She hammered every fence post deep into the soil to keep it steady, then leapt lightly onto a stake and—
Mega Kick!
The terrifying strike made Hikaru remember being CPR’d with Close Combat. His chest ached in phantom pain. Still, with the fencing finished, he explained the Weather Box’s functions to her before heading off to the next new facility.
…
Near Shinto—
The Iceberg Ruins were now labeled Cold Storage—a natural ice vault used for preservation and sculpture. Since Regice’s awakening, Hikaru had also discovered new Ice-type Pokémon near the ruins.
There, he built the Ancient Mushroom Grove. Indigenous fungi thrived better here. The land used Iceberg Climate, boosting Ice-, Grass-, and Ground-type growth.
Using stone bricks, he fenced it in, placed tree stumps, and prepared substrate with sawdust, wheat bran, and gypsum.
Description: Ancient ruin-style mushroom garden. Cultivates fungi better—but spores may spread, so harvest regularly.
Note: Mutated Luminous Mushrooms from Galar’s Glimwood Tangle may appear. If the grove is neglected, it transforms into Mushroom Forest.
Mushroom Forest: A Mystery Dungeon zone filled with giant mushrooms. A hollow stump spawns in the center.
Suggestion: Regular upkeep is needed to avoid uncontrollable growth. But if intentionally grown, the mushrooms can become Pokémon Homes. Spore control knowledge required.
Pokémon Homes? Like giant glowing cauliflower huts. Interesting.
But spores were risky—only Pokémon like Shiinotic, Breloom, Amoonguss, and Parasect would enjoy it.
Hikaru decided not to build Mushroom Houses—at least not until he had anti-spore tech. Besides, with Regice nearby, the area was naturally protected.
Sunlight, dryness, and cold were fungi’s worst enemies.
More and more Pokémon were gathering at Ruins Town. However, not all were naturally inclined to protect the place. Some were drawn by food like berries and clashed briefly with locals before settling down.
Across the ruins, battles broke out—but it was more like sparring.
Wild Pokémon had an inherent desire to fight. Even with food secured, many loved to train and would group up for spontaneous battle events.
This was common in places like Alola’s Verdant Cavern, where wild Pokémon gathered to train and test themselves.
“Too many roadside battles could damage the ruins, orchards, ponds, and mushroom fields.”
“To solve that—ah, the battle ground!” Hikaru remembered a training spot once used by Scyther. It had claimed that land by cutting down every tree around. But after vanishing into the Distortion World, the land had become unused.
With special terrain-crafting, Hikaru reconnected and upgraded it—with the help of the Regi trio.
One day later:
Crafted Building: Battle Arena (Battle Hill)
Description: An ancient-style battlefield. Rocky pillars and giant trees are engraved with countless Pokémon murals. A primal coliseum built solely for battle.
Effects: Effort values earned from victories are doubled. +20% growth and training stats.
Battle Hill worked wonderfully. Guided by the Regis, eager Pokémon swarmed the coliseum, forming crowds and nominating champions for matches—cheering like human audiences.
The Regis acted like hosts, waving their arms atop a stone platform as if organizing a Battle Festival!
The arena’s wooden walls were made from trees Scyther had once cut. To make them tougher, Hikaru added Lilligant statues and asked local Grass-types to help maintain them.
As long as Grass-types were around, the wood wouldn’t rot.
Important rule: No Fire-type moves near the wood! Each battle had to be supervised by Water-types.
Luckily, plenty of Psyduck and Wooper roamed Ruins Town. Some were from wetlands, others from Light Valley. Hikaru even spotted a cheering Politoed clapping madly from the crowd—definitely the hype team!
Its body was damp—likely had the Damp ability instead of Drizzle.
While Hikaru was finishing the arena, a traveling merchant with a heavy backpack returned to the small house in Ruins Town, bringing plenty of goods from afar.
At the same moment—soaring from the distant horizon—a Garchomp crossed the mountains…
…and arrived at the Shinto Ruins.
