Chapter 238: Chapter 238: The Change in the Space

As the other members of the Lu family meditated, Leng Pan and Lu Zhen went to the bedroom to take a shower and rest.

By the time they woke up, the others were done with their meditation and to their amazement, they had all advanced.

The ones with the most noticeable change that came with this advancement were Li Yunjia and Lu Tao.

Li Yunjia could now estimate that the extreme cold would arrive in at most two days. This showed that her superpower had improved and now her visions weren’t speculations of what will happen, but a specific date could be associated with them.

Lu Tao on the other hand, could hear clearer at a distance and his vision was the same. He was also sure that his X-ray vision had improved as well.

After everyone was done, Leng Pan took them outside. She decided to show them what the other parts of the space looked like and not just the inside of the mansion.

However, she didn’t expect to find a surprise when she walked out.

Even Lu Zhen was astonished by the changes that had taken place in the space, specifically, the garden and the sky.

Leng Pan stood there and looked around with her eyes wide and mouth agape.

“You actually have land here too?” Uncle Li asked in astonishment.

Having such a large mansion had been a surprise, but seeing the land, he was indeed shocked.

“I am surprised too. It wasn’t here the last time I checked. There was only a small garden with grass growing on it, but now, this looks like an acre of land or maybe two.” Leng Pan replied while looking around nonstop.

“It should be two acres. It’s enough to do farming if we wanted. Also, Baby, look at the sky, it has changed too.” Lu Zhen came to a step next to his wife and squinted his eyes as he looked at the land and lifted his head to look up.

Leng Pan followed his example and looked up and was surprised to see that the sky was blue and the sun was normal.

Previously, the sky had been crimson with three red suns, but now it was the normal blue color and the sun was also the normal yellow or white color.

It looked just like the outside. Leng Pan wondered if these changes were brought about by their regained memories or something else.

However, it didn’t matter what caused such changes because they were very welcome.

“Let’s go outside and sleep first. We can think about what to do with the land some other time.” Li Yunjia said as she was worried that someone might be monitoring them and if they realized that they were gone for too long, things might become complicated.

After hearing her mother-in-law’s words, Leng Pan didn’t waste time and immediately let everyone out. They all appeared in the living room of their apartment once again.

Because time was far too gone into the night, everyone bid the other good night and went to sleep.

Leng Pan and her husband also headed to their apartment to sleep as well. Even though they had rested in the mansion inside the space, it didn’t hurt sleeping again to recharge and completely recover mentally.

The apartment was quiet, except for the soft hum coming from the fridge inside the kitchen that was still running.

Outside, the city remained cloaked in an eerie silence, broken only by the occasional distant roar of a wandering evolved zombie.

Instead of going straight to bed, Leng Pan sat cross-legged on the couch. She was staring at her palms, almost as if expecting blood to be there. Memories kept flashing before her eyes, memories that didn’t belong to this life alone, but to another.

These were the memories she had remembered that included bloody battles.

Lu Zhen set down two cups of steaming coffee on the low table and sat across from her. His sharp gaze softened when he saw her expression. It was getting chilly, he didn’t want anything to happen to her.

“Still digesting the memories we gained?” Lu Zhen was like a worm in her stomach, he could tell what she was thinking with a glance.

Leng Pan gave a short nod. “It’s so vivid, Ah Zhen. The battlefield back then… the sky was scorched black, cities reduced to rubble. I can still hear the shrieks of alien beasts and the thunder of our weapons. We fought until our bodies broke, and still… humans betrayed us.

And I don’t think that has stopped. The things we found in the lab are proof of that.” Her voice was low, laced with a simmering anger. She still remembered how she had sacrificed herself by giving up on her love with Lu Zhen. She had no plans of repeating that again.

Lu Zhen didn’t speak immediately. He lifted his cup, letting the steam fog his vision for a moment before saying, “I remember, too. The war was never just against aliens or monsters. The greatest wounds came from our own kind; people who traded humanity’s survival for temporary power. They thought they could control the invaders by offering sacrifices.”

Leng Pan’s eyes snapped up to him. “History is repeating itself. Those researchers experimented on volunteers, trying to create hybrids stronger than soldiers of other countries. And the result was creating evolved zombies.They remind me of the defectors who handed over human superpower users for alien experiments. They called it ’progress’ then, too.”Silence hung heavy for a moment. Both of them were lost in the overlap of past and present, their hearts carrying the weight of two lifetimes.

At times, Leng Pan wished she hadn’t recalled those memories. They were too painful.

Finally, Leng Pan exhaled, her heart hardening, “If we’re going to survive this time, we can’t just fight the monsters outside. We have to root out the traitors amongst the human survivors as well.”

Lu Zhen’s lips curved into a smirk. “And this time, we have an advantage. We know how they think based on the past. We’ve seen how they operate. So, we will be in the dark, while they stay in the light”

He leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees. “Remember the alien stronghold at Xien’s Gorge? They used human collaborators as their shield, feeding them scraps of technology. When we cut off the collaborators’ access to supplies and isolated them, the entire stronghold collapsed.”

Leng Pan nodded slowly. “That’s exactly what we can do now. Those colluding with the zombies or aliens, without access to resources, they’ll crumble faster than the monsters they’re trying to serve.

The difference is, this time we have to act quietly, surgically and not spook them, otherwise we will lose the advantage. If we strike too openly, we’ll drive them deeper underground.”

Lu Zhen’s gaze sharpened. “Just like back then, they’ll hide among us. Pretend to be allies until the knife is in our backs. We can’t give them that chance.” He still remembered the damage that situation caused.

Lu Zhen reached for his pendant, fingers brushing over the jade surface that had opened the hidden lab earlier. His expression darkened with thought.

He agreed with everything his wife said. They had to take up a different strategy than the past.

Leng Pan’s chest tightened at the memory of towering hybrid beasts she had once faced in her previous life. Creatures with human cunning and alien strength. She closed her fists.

“We can’t let that happen. This time, we know where the road leads. We can stop it before it reaches that point.”

Lu Zhen stared at his wife with a slight smile. He could tell she was frustrated, but also determined.

“Then the question is, how do we expose them without giving ourselves away? Last time, you fought like a commander until the very end. But we both died because the traitors sabotaged us.”

Leng Pan’s throat tightened. The memory of her death surfaced again. She had died alone, betrayed, surrounded, and bleeding beneath the endless sky, burned like acid.

She felt her resolve to clean up this world hardened.

“This time we won’t start alone, we will have people joining us. I am sure uncle knows the right people.” Leng Pan suggested.

Lu Zhen let out a soft chuckle. “You sound like a commander again.”

Leng Pan tilted her head. “And you? You’re already strategizing like my second-in-command.”

Their eyes met, and for a moment the heaviness between them lightened. They weren’t alone this time.

Lu Zhen broke the silence first. “The biggest threat right now is the scientists working with the traitors. If they succeed in stabilizing those hybrid experiments, we’ll face enemies with strength on par with evolved humans but loyal only to the zombies. We need to destroy their research before it’s completed.”

Leng Pan tapped her fingers against her cup, thinking. “We can use the memories of alien strategies. They always hid their research centers near areas of chaos, battlefields, bases, ruins where detection was harder. If we map the current zombie outbreaks, we might be able to predict where they’re hiding now.”
