Chapter 193: The Sinners Academy Opens It’s Doors [4] — House Yamato
“Sakura Sumeragi.”
“Takumi Sumeragi.”
The Sumeragi siblings were also nobles of the Sumeragi family of Onmyōji, both descendants from humans originating from Zipangu. They awakened their sorcery and magical abilities at the tender age of ten out of nowhere, causing an explosion in their house that took the life of a nearby maid and caused a great commotion. This marked the beginning of their life as Sinners.
Sakura was a sweet, pink-haired girl with red eyes. She spoke very little and was silent by default. She wielded advanced sorcery capable of unleashing spells using fire, water, wood, earth, and metal elements, alongside yin and yang. She was praised as a shrine maiden in her home but was a very humble person who disliked conflict.
Takumi, on the other hand, was a much ruder pink-haired man with long hair tied in a ponytail—unlike his short-haired sister. He had fierce blue eyes and, while possessing the same powers as his sister, was also a great bowman. He had a nasty personality and tended to disregard and insult everyone who was not from his country.
“Tsubaki.”
An animal-loving young man with long red hair. He was an average unit in the game, and William never cared much about him. He had nothing particularly interesting aside from being half-Spiritian and possessing a spirit resembling a Pegasus that he used to fly around while fighting with his spear. A “bench-warmer,” in William’s opinion.
“Hana.”
A young girl with long brown hair and pink eyes—a super-fast glass-cannon little samurai who moved quickly with her two katanas and had high chances of inflicting critical hits and avoiding attacks. Her personality was that of a nasty tsundere, and unless the player was a masochist, she was usually ignored. Despite having the highest chances of crits and dodges, she also had the lowest strength among all physical attackers. She was a half-Zipangian and Spiritian with a Katana Spirit.
“Orochi.”
A nasty curse-caster young lady with long white hair and sharp purple eyes. This voluptuous beauty was a fan favorite due to her looks and powers. She was among the best curse casters, capable of conjuring paralyzing, bleeding, poisoning, and stat-lowering curses in quick succession with her special curse chain ability. For some reason she also had white scales and red eyes. In the game’s lore, it was said she was born from the lingering ghost of Orochi and his lover—a maiden who died in her mountain after giving birth to her. As a snake-like lady, she had a snake-like personality.
“Oboro.”
A tomboyish black-haired soldier girl who wielded a naginata. She had a special Iron Body Physique inherited from her family and… a very boring personality, mostly acting as Takumi’s retainer. William could not remember anything interesting about her. Another bench-warmer, in his opinion.
“Hinata.”
A powerful all-rounder samurai with a powerful ghostly katana as his familiar spirit. His wild black hair and fiery red-blue eyes already made him stand out among the more boring characters of Yamato. Hinata had a fiery personality and loved to fight more than anything. He was also very easy to awaken his Spiral and had a really strong Incarnation and skills that simply made him a “great physical attacker” to fill party ranks. He later obtained a Guts Ability, allowing him to survive lethal blows with 1 HP as long as he had more than 30% of his HP remaining.
“Kaze.”
Another unique character. Kaze was a pure ninja—a green-haired young man who served the Amaterasu Family in the shadows… until now. With a slender and tall frame and a handsome face hidden beneath his clothes, Kaze used all sorts of secret weapons and ninjutsu inherited from his family originating from Zipangu. He also had a Spirit Orb, allowing him to summon three powerful elemental spirits that he combined with his ninjutsu to become a great area-of-effect attacker with excellent dodge and critical hits—a better Hana in every possible way. His personality was basic and disciplined, a loyal young ninja to the Amaterasu Family. He was also a Kitsune, descendant of half-foxes from Zipangu. Indeed, he had a mix of many bloodlines.
“Tamamo.”
A mature beauty with long orange hair and blazing red eyes, pointy fox ears, and three fox tails. Kaze’s distant cousin, a pure-blood Kitsune from Zipangu who moved to Yamato at a young age with her humble parents—both Kitsunes who worked the farm fields together. Unlike her parents, she awakened her mystical and spiritual powers as a Fox Spirit at a young age, becoming catalogued as both an Esper and a Sinner due to the nature of her powers, which summoned forth a giant spectral fox entity. She had a playful, teasing personality. In William’s opinion, she was a good and powerful magician and all-rounder. Her special ability allowed her to become as good as a tanker by using her own MP—one of the highest in the game—as her HP.
“Yudrak Drakeheart Amaterasu.”
Said to be the son of the Dragon Queen governing Zipangu and Yudra, daughter of the Dragon King of Yggdrasil, Yudrak had a calm, silent personality with a warm heart he usually did not show to the world. He was tall and slender, with short white hair and sharp blue-gold eyes. He had a long fur-covered dragon tail and small wings covered by the same fluffy white fur, which also covered his chest and neck, giving the appearance that he was always wearing a white scarf. He often wore ninja-like clothes, and as a young dragon he obviously possessed a lot of power. Despite being a dragon, he had no horns.
Louis realized that while Camelot had many interesting characters, Yamato fell a bit short—having both boring and interesting ones he might or might not try to recruit. Right now he was quite interested in the oni sisters, but seeing how loyal they were, that might prove impossible. He was mostly interested in Rinkah; if William said she was the best tank in the game, he would not be lying. Her sister was mostly like an accessory to help unleash her strongest techniques—that was why he wanted both.
But still, this was no longer a game, and a mindset like that might not work in real life. So he decided to mostly remain silent and think about his options.
“House of Mesopotamia.”
The director’s deep voice echoed across the colosseum-like stage, carrying easily over the murmurs of the gathered students and spectators.
Every head turned toward the yellow-and-gold clad group.
“Lord Ashur Bel-Marduk.”
A tall figure stepped forward first, moving with the lazy, almost feline grace of someone who knew exactly how striking he was. Ashur’s presence seemed to pull light toward him—his clear brown skin gleamed under the divine sunlight, short black hair tousled by the breeze, and those piercing blue eyes scanned the crowd with casual amusement. Golden jewelry glinted at his ears, throat, wrists, and fingers; even the buttons and embroidery of his uniform were threaded with real gold filament. He carried no visible weapon, yet the air around him felt heavy, as though gravity itself bent slightly in deference.
He was the Lord of Mesopotamia, the newest nation of Earth after the apocalypse, son of the new royal family and descendant of Yggdrasil humans and humans from Earth. He was born with a very special Mana Heart named “Golden Mana Heart,” capable of wielding the power of the Gold Element—which could do more than merely bend metal. At the same time, he was a strong awakened Esper and was engaged to the daughter of Drakda and Amethyst for matrimony—meaning that one day he would become Louis’ family, to his disdain.
Game-wise? He was an incredibly strong unit, like all Lords were. Ashur possessed powerful offensive and defensive magic and was not even a glass cannon; his stats were all-around great—good strength, defense, speed, magic power—everything above average and slightly exceeding it. Among his special abilities, he could buff everyone’s Luck stat, increasing their chances of critical hits, dodges, and improving the chance for rare dropped items. He was only playable on the Mesopotamia route like the other lords, however.
However, if William had to rank the lords, Arthur would still be the strongest, followed by Ashur and then by Mikoto.
“Zaidu.”
Behind him stood his sub-leader, a mountain of a man named Zaidu.
Zaidu was easily two heads taller than most students; his dark brown skin was scarred in places that spoke of real battles rather than training. Short white hair, severe black eyes, no jewelry whatsoever—just raw, stoic power. His massive arms were crossed, and the only ornament on him was the heavy golden chain belt holding a ceremonial khopesh sheathed at his hip. He didn’t speak, didn’t smile; he simply existed like a living fortress.
He was similar to Arthur’s sister in terms of gameplay, a go-to tank and warrior for those who chose this route. Recruiting him? Impossible, as he was a close retainer to the lord and would never betray him. Nonetheless, he was a hardy fortress of a man and possessed several survival-oriented abilities such as Guts and Last Stand.
