“So, you’re one of them. A Djinn. Did you really think you could use your powers to control my mind, and I would just not notice it? Are you fucking stupid?”
Harold swallowed in fear as he saw the anger in Dante’s eyes, and he told Dante to calm down once again! Harold had a very reasonable explanation for what he was doing! Harold wasn’t planning to kill Dante or anything like that! He was only going to use the compulsion to buy some company stocks for a very cheap amount! Dante heard all of this, and he could only click his tongue before he asked.
“What association are you from?”
Harold felt his eyes widen in shock when he heard this question! Harold had no idea that Dante even knew about magic or Djinn at all, so the fact that Dante already knew about the various associations in the Twilight world was almost too much for him to comprehend! Why the hell did Dante already know all these things!? Was Dante also a Djinn? Is that why he could counter the compulsion skill that Harold had used on him just now? But that didn’t make any sense! Even if Dante was a Djinn, Harold had never heard of him before, so this meant that Dante wasn’t on the Radar of any of the associations! At most, Dante could only be a low-level Djinn, so he shouldn’t have the mental fortitude needed to block the [Compulsion] skill!
Dante, meanwhile, was trying to figure out who his enemies were in the Twilight world. Dante remembered that the system told him there were two main associations in the Twilight world that he had to watch out for. The system had called them Veretax and Urus. But it was the Djinn from Urus that Dante really had to watch out for, since the system told him that they were all Hitmen, so Dante already had his hand hovering over the trigger and ready to fire if he heard that this bastard was from Urus. If Harold said he was from Urus, then Dante knew it was also likely that the Djinn that had been following him all this time were from Urus as well, and Dante would have to think of a way to kill all of them before they tried to kill him. But surprisingly, Harold said that he wasn’t from any association.
“I’m not part of any association! I used to be part of a branch of Veretax a long time ago, but my family kicked me out of the association after I made a mistake. I’m an independent Djinn and I’m just trying to make a name for myself.”
Dante’s eyes narrowed as he heard all this. The [Discernment] skill that Dante had allowed him to tell when someone was lying or when they were trying to fool him, but from what Dante was seeing on Harold’s face and mannerisms, it didn’t look like he was lying. Why the hell would a Rogue be kicked out of the family just because he made a mistake? Does this mean that the Rogues are actually a family of Djinn as well? Dante didn’t know much about the Rogues, especially because they were from another country entirely, but Dante knew that they had made a lot of their money through their connections with the Royal family. Everyone thought that it was because the Rogues were handling the Royal Family trust funds, but if what Harold was saying was right, then everyone might be wrong! It’s possible that all the money they made was through their work in the Twilight world.
But now the question here was: if Harold wasn’t a part of the Rogues, then why the fuck was he trying to buy Lucas Corp stocks while pretending that he was still part of the family? Dante asked this question to Harold, and Harold turned away from Dante with a slight frown on his face. It looked like the question had brought up some bad memories, but Dante didn’t care about how Harold felt in that moment.
Bang!
A gunshot rang through the room, and Harold screamed as a bullet slammed into the ground a few centimeters away from his head! What the fuck!? Dante could have killed him if his shot had been even a single centimeter off! This bastard! Harold looked up at Dante with shaky eyes, and Dante pointed the gun at his forehead before saying,
“Answer my question, or the next one goes into your balls.”
A shiver of fear passed through Harold as he instinctively closed his legs when he heard what Dante said! Harold knew that Dante wasn’t playing around at all since there was nothing stopping Dante from torturing him to death in here, and Harold quickly spoke up.
“Look, I already told you, I’m no longer a part of the Rogue family! It’s just… I was trying to make a name for myself! My family kicked me out and called me useless! They said I couldn’t ever amount to anything! But before leaving, I overheard that they were interested in buying the Lucas Corp business! Your business is the largest one in Stockham, and it has a direct connection to the ports for drug and ammunition transportation, so the family thinks it’ll be good to get your family under their control so they can benefit from the business! So after leaving the family, I thought that getting to you and making you sign the majority stocks of your company over to me would help me get back at them! I promise, that’s all there was to it! I’m not trying to kill you or anything!”
“But you were trying to take my company from me. Do you really think this is any less of a crime than you trying to kill me?”
Harold had no answer to Dante’s words, and he could only look up at Dante with fear in his eyes. Dante knew that Harold wasn’t lying. His [Discernment] skill was working at an insane rate to make sure it caught every twitch, eye movement, or body language while Harold was speaking. And after everything, Dante was certain that Harold was telling the truth. The only way this could be a lie was if Harold was the damn best liar in the entire world. But Dante knew that this skill worked on professional liars very well! Even someone like Roxanne, who built her entire career around her ability to lie, wasn’t capable of getting past this skill, so there was no way Harold would be able to either! Dante stared Harold down for a few seconds and felt his mind running at a mile a minute.
This could be an opportunity. Dante knew that Harold had only come here to try and make a name for himself, but at the same time, Dante knew that the Rogue name was the only reason why Harold was even able to get this meeting with him in the first place. That was a very powerful name, and it really didn’t matter that Harold was no longer a part of the family, so long as he had that name, Harold could go anywhere and talk to anyone he wanted! And at this moment, Dante was already thinking of various ways he could use Harold’s name to his advantage! Dante already knew that it would be impossible for him to even get a meeting with the Bellagrinis to try and buy their company stocks and bail them out from bankruptcy, but the Rogues were highly respected in this city, so if the Bellagrinis heard that a Rogue was interested in buying their stocks, there was a very high chance that they would agree to it and they wouldn’t even suspect a thing! If Dante could leverage Harold and use him as one of his pawns, then Dante would be able to gain access to the Bellagrini company without even lifting a fucking finger!
Dante eyed Harold with new interest, and Harold swallowed as Dante slowly relaxed his posture and gained a small smile on his face. The next time Dante spoke, there was a hint of amusement in his voice.
“So you’re trying to tell me that you came here to coerce me into selling you the majority stocks of my company just so you could spite your family for kicking you out. So tell me, what would have happened after you bought the stocks? Do you think your family would have simply accepted defeat and left you as the head of Lucas Corp? You can’t possibly be that naïve.”
