Chapter 308: Loss of Self-Control

The Gods’ Roots were born from nature and blessed by the gods.

Only druids who had been baptized by nature could summon them.

Even so, summoning the Gods’ Roots wasn’t easy. It demanded a massive reserve of mana, and maintaining their form drained even more.

That was why Liora now looked exhausted, panting heavily.

“You’ve lost, Nysera. Give up now. Your efforts are futile,” Liora said with a small, confident smile.

At first, she hadn’t cared much about this test. Making it into the top ten was enough.

But Merlin’s words still echoed in her mind, and she wanted to prove she could achieve the best results.

“Give up? How is that possible?”

Nysera opened her jaws, and a fireball instantly formed between them.

She hurled it at the roots, detonating it on impact.

The Gods’ Roots, however, were incredibly strong—her attack didn’t leave a single scratch.

Refusing to give up, Nysera launched fireball after fireball in rapid succession. To the onlookers, it seemed like a desperate gamble.

But to Merlin, she was acting perfectly. The roots were strong, yet Liora’s control over them remained unstable.

When the seventh fireball hit, the golden roots finally cracked and shattered.

“How is that possible?” Liora exclaimed, her eyes widening in shock.

However, she didn’t have time to think—Nysera had already flapped her wings and darted straight at her.

Liora hurriedly crossed her arms, but Nysera’s powerful strike sent her hurtling into the sky.

Nysera didn’t stop there. She kept swinging her claws while Liora struggled to defend herself.

Her face was pale, and her breathing grew shallow.

Using the Gods’ Roots had drained half of her mana, and on top of that, she kept summoning more roots to block Nysera’s attacks.

Realizing that continuing the fight would only harm her, Liora finally raised her right hand and shouted, “I surrender!”

From the stage, Ronald smiled and announced, “The winner is Nysera of the Dragon Race!”

But strangely, Nysera showed no sign of stopping.

She opened her jaws and hurled a fireball at Liora.

Startled, Liora quickly clenched her left hand, summoning five giant roots to shield herself.

Even though she managed to block the attack, Nysera pressed on.

“Hey! I surrendered! Do you want to kill me?” Liora shouted in panic.

She stepped back, but Nysera charged again, leaving her even more terrified.

Roar!

Nysera let out a deafening roar that shook the entire arena.

“What’s wrong with Nysera? Why is she still attacking Liora?” a girl asked, wide-eyed in shock.

According to the rules, the party that surrendered was automatically eliminated from the arena.

The fight should have ended—but strangely, Nysera continued her relentless assault on Liora, leaving everyone bewildered.

The others were equally confused. One of them exclaimed, “Could she have lost control?”

All eyes widened. Nysera’s gaze had turned cold and merciless, as if she were no longer herself but a monster.

“She’s really lost control!” another student shouted in horror, stumbling back ten steps.

The others followed suit, retreating one by one. Nysera in her dragon form was terrifying, especially with that icy stare.

’She’s pushing herself too far,’ Nerixa whispered, her tone serious.

Now she understood why Nysera could use her dragon transformation. She had exceeded her limits and lost control of her powers.

If this continued, it was very possible Liora could die under the relentless attacks.

“Vice Principal, this is dangerous! We have to intervene!”

A bespectacled male professor looked at Ronald in panic. Nysera’s actions had gone too far.

If Liora died, the academy’s relationship with the Druid race could be ruined. Relations with the Dragon race might also sour, making all their efforts meaningless.

“Wait. Don’t take action yet.”

Ronald raised his hand, stopping the professors who were about to intervene.

“Vice Principal, this isn’t a game! This is serious!” the female professor beside him said anxiously. “We have to do something!”

The professors exchanged confused glances. They truly couldn’t understand Ronald’s strange way of thinking.

But since his words were orders, they couldn’t act rashly and could only watch the events in the arena unfold.

“Brother, should I take action?” Catrine asked seriously.

Just because she was indifferent to her surroundings at times didn’t mean she would stand by and watch. She couldn’t bear to see anyone die in front of her.

Merlin didn’t answer immediately. His gaze stayed fixed on the mission panel before him.

“[Ding! An emergency mission has been issued! Save Liora Aryn from Nysera’s uncontrolled attack! Reward: 30,000 system points and 2× A-level healing potions! Note: Perform a cool saving move that will impress everyone. The reward will automatically increase if you do so. Do you want to accept it?]”

’Tsk! System, you really know my mind,’ Merlin chuckled.

He hadn’t expected the system to release a mission in a situation like this.

Then, his figure vanished from sight.

Meanwhile, Liora continued to retreat, struggling to withstand Nysera’s fierce attacks.

She had managed so far, but her body was exhausted and couldn’t hold out much longer.

Suddenly, Nysera maneuvered, raised her claws high, and struck at Liora’s back.

Caught off guard, Liora slammed hard onto the arena floor, a cry of pain escaping her lips as she gritted her teeth.

“Die… die… die!” Nysera’s hate-filled voice thundered from above.

Liora looked up and saw Nysera soaring high, then diving toward her at incredible speed.

Frozen in place, she whispered, “Am I going to die?”

“Die? What are you talking about?” A playful voice rang from the side.

Startled, Liora turned her head—and in an instant, her eyes widened.

“Merlin?”
