Chapter 63: 63:It’s good
“This place is larger than I expected. ”
Seraph said the moment she stepped into the cold laboratory. Her eyes looked around curiously, despite the tanks with people inside, or the half-done experiments, her face didn’t show the disgust she always showed.
An improvement. I didn’t need her to absolutely fall in love with alchemy just accept it wholeheartedly.
“I’ve been expanding it for a long time. It should almost occupy the whole castle. Mother allowed it.”
Seraph nodded. Her eyes landed on the floating siren, Nixie, who was also looking at us curiously.
After our agreement to help each other, Nixie had become more docile and she spent most of her time practicing magic.
Since sirens also had the same route for gaining strength the tank provided everything she needed. I had been thinking of transferring her to the lake since the tank was just too small. I didn’t want her to feel too suffocated.
“Is she the siren?”
Seraph approached the tank with curiosity. Nixie swam to the top a cheerful smile on her face and held out a wet hand.
She had learnt that from Jeneviv, who had been more than happy to play with a siren.
“Nixie, this is Seraph, my darling sister,” I said, pulling Seraph closer to me. Nixie’s eyes widened. ” Seraph, this is Nixie, the siren I splurged money on; she’s a sweetheart. ”
Seraph smiled and took the outstretched wet hand. Nixie was now leaning almost halfway out of the tank. That worried me even thoughIi knew she won’t get hurt if she falls.
“Nice to meet you, Seraph, ” she turned to me,” you have a beautiful sister just like you.”
I chuckled. She got into the habit of calling me beautiful after we made our deal. It didn’t bother me, she will eventually fall for this beautiful face.
“Of course she is, she’s my sister. ”
Seraph blushed at my word and hit me lightly on my chest.
“Is the cure you were telling me about ready yet?”
She asked me for the a hundredth time. That was her only downside. She was impatient. I ran my hand through my hair.
“As I’ve said before, creating a potion to separate your tail is going to take a while since it’s something I’ve never done before. You’re the only one I can test on, I don’t want permanent damage.”
Seraph looked between the two of us in confusion.
“She cannot transform?”
I nodded.
“That’s why she’s still inside the tank.”
Seraph fell into deep thought.
“She falls into the beast folk category right?”
“Yes, she’s demihuman.”
“All demihumans are supposed to transform, there is no way she cannot. Unless she’s defective or something. ”
Nixie, who was listening, almost fell off the tank after what Seraph said.
“But I was the best warrior in the kingdom, that cannot be.”
Seraph nodded.
“There isn’t much about sirens that we know except that they don’t want to come to land, which is understandable. They are beautiful especially their tails. It would be a perfect collection.”
Seraph glanced at Nixie’s blue and green tail. Nixie, noticing her gaze, scowled before flopping it hard on the surface of the water. Most of the water splashed on us. We managed to escape the largest amount but it was still the same.
“What was that for?”
Seraph looked up at him angrily. Nixie shrugged.
“I’m just sensitive sometimes. ”
“Then go into the water or something, this is absolutely rude, and I was trying to help you.”
“I apologize.”
That went more reasonably than I thought, probably because she didn’t get a large splash.
“As I was saying, it might also be a psychological thing on her part, like how new beast cubs remain in their natural form when scared.”
I nodded at that logic. I had never thought about it that way. Nixie got tricked, captured, sold, almost killed by yours truly, had different parts of her body taken as samples, and was living in the tank.
Naming all that made it even more possible. This might be because Seraph was more empathetic, which is why she thought of that.
Despite this i was still going to find a much more tangible cure.
“You are right, poor girl has been through a lot,” I said to Seraph, looking at her seriously, then turned to Nixie, ” how about you move into the back lake, it’s not very big, but you should be able to move more freely and look at the outside world. ”
The only thing I wanted was for her to relax. Maybe Seraph’s theory may come in handy, you never know.
“I’ll come see you tomorrow for the transfer.”
“Yes, thank you. I can finally see the outside world.”
I rolled my eyes. She was going to understand how ugly the outside world was.
Seraph walked in front of me as she carefully touched some of my laboratory equipment. Some she was unfamiliar with since I had designed them with Earth in play.
She would lift something every now and them turning to me for answers. Her curiosity was endearing as long as she didn’t damage….
A sample fell to the ground the moment she turned to me holding an unfinished green growth potion. I had swallowed my words before they came out.
“I’m sorry, Lucian, I didn’t mean to.”
She said apologetically and placed the potion back in its place.”
I smiled and shook my head.
“It’s not really that important, and that potion you were holding is a growth potion.”
With my reassurance, her worry melted away, and she continued with her routine of pick and ask.
“Why do you have a dead infant hanging in there. ”
Seraph asked the moment she stopped the baby. She walked to the edge of the tank and looked at the child curiously.
“No, she’s alive; her mother had a tragic accident, and she was born a few months earlier. ”
“I didn’t know you were that kind.”
Seraph said sarcastically her eyes still glued on the child. Hair had fully covered her head and she had grown bigger. It was almost time for her birth.
“It’s part of my charm, don’t you agree. ”
She chuckled.
“Whats her name?”
She suddenly asked after a bout of silence. That surprised me, I thought she would just pass through it since she rarely showed interest in anything unless it was family and money.
“Don’t tell me you want her blood?”
I said dramatically holding putting my hand to my chest. She looked at me as though I had said the most blasphemous thing.
“No. Do not put me in your standards, I wouldn’t drink from a child.”
She shot back.
“Why do you see me in such dark lights Seraph? I would …”
“You would never, but given the opportunity, you would. ”
She cut me off.
Okay, I seem to have angered her. I do not even understand why she was angry about something so trivial.
“If it’s right there, why would I refuse it?”
“Lucian be quiet!” She snapped and leaned even closer to the tank,” look your nonsense has woken her up.”
That was enough to spring me into action.
“Seraph, step back. She is not supposed to do that. I was planning on getting her out this evening but it seems life doesn’t go as planned. ”
I hurriedly put on my gloves. Luna pressed the button for draining the liquid until it was only halfway.
The child still floated inside looking at us. She moved her head around, her feet kicking in the fluid.
“Yep, she is ready for birth. ”
I opened the small invisible door on the glass, dipped my hands into the liquid, and pulled her out.
I held her delicate, slippery body and cut the umbilical. I had not fully removed it since it was needed for her nutritional pump.
We needed to maintain the exact womb condition.
“Congratulations we just gave birth. ”
I joked as I gave the baby to Luna, who placed her on the scale. I needed to record everything before placing her in the growth tank.
“She doesn’t have a name. Why don’t you name her, since you seemed interested? ”
I said to Seraph who was following Luna’s movements as she took the child through the basic body test.
“How about I give you one tomorrow. ”
I chuckled and nodded. At least that headache was gone. I had been deliberating but nothing came to mind.
“Master, I think there might be a problem. ”
Luna said hesitantly while wiping down the girl.
“What is it?”
The slightest of problems could affect a lot.
“Her pupils…. aren’t following the light crystal. ”
I walked over to Luna and moved the crystal over her eyes, but nothing happened. I coughed and her head instinctively turned to me.
“Is she blind?”
Seraph’s voice cut through my developing worry. I nodded then shook my head right after.
“I’m not really sure. Normally, children are born blind. Let’s wait for three days, and we can check again.”
I said nonchalantly but the doubt creeping into my mind begged to differ.
