Chapter 127 - 125: Leaving the City and Pursuit
Chapter 127: Chapter 125: Leaving the City and Pursuit
When Jeming agreed to escort, it was as if the nobles of Golden Harbor were pulled back from hell to the human world.
They were overjoyed, spreading the news eagerly, overwhelmed with excitement.
However, Jeming’s next words were like a cold shower, quenching much of their joy.
“I won’t wait for you too long. Carriages must be prepared immediately. You are only allowed to carry the most essential lightweight items. Leave the rest behind.” Jeming’s voice was cold and decisive.
“Golden Harbor is in a special location, the beastmen will soon organize their next attack, we must leave here before the sun fully rises!”
Upon hearing this, the nobles, who originally planned to pack up everything they owned, looked instantly grim.
But Jeming’s displayed combat power and the impending crisis of the beastmen army closing in made them dare not defy him in the slightest.
Count Reinhart was the first to react, trembling as he complied, and immediately passed Jeming’s orders down.
Under the pressure of survival, the nobles were quite efficient.
Soon, under the broken city gate, the nobles’ caravan formed a bloated long snake, slowly starting in the morning light.
Count Reinhart’s pale face carried the exhaustion of surviving a disaster as he took one last look at the still-smoking harbor through the carriage curtain, his heart heavy.
At this moment, Jeming was not riding a horse nor in a carriage, just walking steadily at the front of the convoy.
His steps were measured with precise accuracy, without a single unnecessary movement.
“Keep up! No straggling!” He didn’t turn his head, yet his voice reached every corner of the convoy, carrying an undeniable authority.
A few private soldiers, terrified and tired from the night’s ordeal, began to stagger and lag behind.
Jeming just tilted his head slightly, his gaze like two cold blades instantly stabbing into one of the panting private soldiers.
Startled by this look, the soldier shivered, then stumbled as if struck by an invisible whip, accelerating to catch up.
Another soldier tried to complain, but Jeming raised a hand, a small pebble whizzing through the air, precisely hitting his shin.
“Ah—!” The private soldier gasped in pain.
Clutching his shin, his face turned pale, but under Jeming’s gaze, he dared not say anything, just gritted his teeth and sped up.
Everyone in the convoy felt Jeming’s undeniable strength, the nobles in the carriages were silent as cicadas in winter, no longer daring to voice complaints.
The convoy moved along the desolate dirt road toward the Royal Capital.
On either side were low bushes and sparse woods, the air filled only with the rustling of wind through wild grass, and the creaking of wheels crushing stones.
The towns outside Golden Harbor had long been “cleaned” by beastmen, the farther from Golden Harbor, the fewer traces of human activity.
Occasionally peeking out the window, the nobles felt even more anxious seeing the desolate landscape.
After several hours of travel, the sun had climbed the sky and hung overhead.
The convoy reached a slightly flat hilly area, and just then…
“Awooo!”
A loud and wild wolf howl broke the silence of the wilderness.
Soon, a faint tremor started from the ground, gradually becoming clear and powerful.
In the distance, at the horizon’s edge, black silhouettes appeared like runaway horses, charging toward the convoy at an astonishing speed.
“It’s… it’s beastmen! It’s wolf cavalry!” An eagle-eyed guard screamed in terror, his voice shaking uncontrollably.
More than twenty strong war wolves appeared in sight, their limbs galloping like the wind.
Mounted on their backs were beastman archers clad in exquisite leather armor and wolf knights wielding scimitars.
These beastmen exuded a bloodthirsty and violent aura, clearly a scout team sent by the beastman vanguard, with a clear target—to delay and harass this seemingly delectable group of nobles.
“Watch out! They’re charging!”
The convoy instantly plunged into panic.
Inside the carriages, nobles erupted in shrill screams, servants trembled in fear, some even collapsing in a heap on the ground.
The private soldiers hastily drew weapons, organizing a defense, but their hands trembled, eyes filled with fear of the unknown.
The speed of the beastman wolf cavalry was too fast, they were now like a tide of blackness, encircling from the flank, aiming directly at the lavish carriages.
“Damn it! We can’t let them break through!” General Brandon shouted at the top of his lungs.
Just as the convoy was thrown into chaos, the figure at the very front remained utterly still.
Jeming raised his eyes to look at the wolf cavalry, not even giving the private soldiers behind him a chance to organize their formation.
Slightly lifting his leg, his form shot out from the front like an arrow released from a string!
His speed transcended human comprehension, in everyone’s eyes, he was like a blurred black shadow, and in the blink of an eye, he charged into the densest formation of the wolf cavalry’s charge.
“Roar!”
A massive war wolf bearing a beastman archer with a giant bow on its back roared as it pounced toward Jeming, its sharp fangs and giant claws slicing through the air.
Jeming slid sideways like a phantom, avoiding the pounce, and thrust his right hand out, grabbing the neck of the War Wolf.
The War Wolf let out a painful howl, its massive body astonishingly restrained in mid-air by his gigantic strength.
Then, Jeming’s left hand swiftly drew the short sword from his waist like lightning, the sword tracing a perfect arc in the air, slicing precisely across the War Wolf’s neck.
Sss!
Warm blood gushed out, the War Wolf emitted one last sorrowful whimper, its massive body twitched a few times in the air before crashing heavily to the ground, raising a cloud of dust.
The Beastman Archer on its back had not yet reacted before being flung away.
Jeming’s toe pressed off the wolf’s corpse, his body catapulting out once more, lunging at the Beastman Archer yet to hit the ground.
Bang!
A fierce whiplash kick struck the Beastman Archer’s chest directly.
The Beastman had no time to resist, his chest bone instantly caving in.
The Beastman’s sturdy body now became a drawback, a kick that could turn ordinary humans into a blood mist sent the Beastman’s body hurtling like a cannonball, crashing into another charging War Wolf.
The two figures rolled simultaneously on the ground, twitching a few times before becoming utterly still.
Meanwhile, the remaining Wolf Cavalry had completely surrounded the noble’s party.
Wolf howls, Beastman’s roars, the nobles’ screams, and the metallic clangs of weapon collisions intertwined to form a scene of chaos and bloodshed.
The private soldiers struggled to resist, but their swords and knives could hardly inflict fatal damage on the thick Beastman Leather Armor and fierce War Wolf.
Yet the Beastmen couldn’t cause significant casualties, wherever Jeming went, however, was absolute one-sided slaughter.
He moved among the wolves and Beastmen like a grim reaper, each flash signaling the end of a life.
A Beastman Wolf Knight swung a scimitar, slicing towards Jeming from the side.
Jeming didn’t dodge, instead, he stepped forward abruptly, his right fist bombarding the blade of the scimitar with precision.
Clang!
A sharp metallic crash rang out, the scimitar bounced violently back, its handle smashing into the Beastman’s own face, shattering half of its cheek, a mix of teeth and blood spewing out.
The Beastman emitted a painful moan, wrist in agony, weapon slipping from its hand.
Jeming swiftly closed in, his left hand clamped onto the Beastman’s neck like iron pincers, twisting fiercely to the side!
Crack!
The crisp sound of bone breaking was clear even amidst the battlefield’s chaos.
The Beastman’s body went limp, discarded by Jeming.
His movements were so quick they were hard to see, so powerful they were beyond comprehension.
Those trying to surround him among the Wolf Cavalry were without exception directly shredded, blown apart, or had their throats easily sliced by the short sword in his hand.
No Magic glow, no Magic Power ripple, only pure physical combat.
Yet this mortal limit of power had more impact than any dazzling magic.
Over twenty Wolf Cavalry were slaughtered clean by Jeming alone in mere seconds.
When he split the last War Wolf attempting to escape into halves from head to tail, the entire battlefield fell into an eerie silence.
Only the sound of the breeze across the wilds remained, alongside the heavy breathing of the nobles and guards.
The nobles had suspected this “Jack” had significant strength upon seeing the pile of Beastman corpse outside the manor.
But only upon witnessing firsthand, seeing the other’s exaggerated performance during battle did they realize they had sorely underestimated him.
Originally, they thought having Jeming was merely an extra guarantee, now they understood Jeming was their absolute assurance!
“Is this man already on the path of legend?” Count Reinhart cautiously poked his head from the hiding carriage, unable to resist murmuring while watching Jeming’s silhouette.
Jeming wielding the blood-stained short sword calmly turned around.
His eyes swept coldly across the nobles and guards who were utterly stunned by shock and fear.
“Continue forward.” He commanded briefly, his voice devoid of emotion.
After the scene just witnessed, none dared to face Jeming directly.
Everyone remained silent, void of complaints, no one dared question any of Jeming’s commands.
The guards dared not make a single motion, swallowing hard as they eyed the corpses of Beastmen and War Wolves on the ground.
Having battled these Beastmen, they understood the power disparity between them far better.
Upon hearing “Jack’s” command, the guards shivered collectively, then moved quickly as if whipped into action.
With a group’s teamwork, it wasn’t long before the previously chaotic party was straightened out, the carriage starting to move slowly again, the sound of wheels particularly clear in the desolate wilds.
The party continued forward amidst everyone’s shock, leaving behind only the wreckage of Beastmen and War Wolves’ corpses strewn across the wilds and the lingering scent of blood in the air not yet dissipated.
