Chapter 565
【 ELEMENTAL FAERIES 】
—
Evé acted as soon as the idea came into her mind.
After deciding to create a new race, she immediately descended into her divine kingdom, took up the Scepter of Life, and began channeling her divine power to conduct research and experimentation.
However, it was only after formally embarking on the process of creating a new race that Evé realized the endeavor was far more complex than it initially appeared.
Unlike when she was creating elves, which required little intervention and was almost instinctive, creating an entirely new sentient species demanded that Evé not only construct a unique lifeform from nothing but also ensure its stable intellect and completeness.
A successful sentient species should not only be able to survive and reproduce under specific conditions, but also possess the ability to evolve and learn independently, while also demonstrating strong potential for development.
Otherwise, even if the new species could be created, it might merely become a creature with low-intelligence or worse, one devoid of magical capacity rendering her effort meaningless.
Whether it be the formation of a viable body structure, the development of a perfect reproductive system, or the cultivation of sufficient intelligence and growth potential, none of these tasks were simple.
The conceptual information to be considered and the governing universal laws to be calculated are both vast and deeply complex.
Moreover, what Evé intended to create was not a conventional species, but a rare energy-based lifeform.
Even with the assistance of the Scepter of Life, her control over the divinity of life, and the unfathomable computational power of the mind of a true god, which is far beyond anything conceivable by mortals, Eve still found herself overwhelmed by the challenge.
The creation process had not yet physically begun; however, the conceptual design alone, along with the required laws and divine mechanics, was already proving to be extremely frustrating.
Laws of Nature, Laws of Life, Laws of the Soul…
Each of these fundamental principles was essential in the process of creating a brand new life, and each had to be thoroughly understood and applied with precision.
As these complex laws intertwined altogether, they formed a colossal and intricate network of calculations—something not every deity was capable of managing.
This was far more challenging than using the Scepter to assist in purifying the blood of the elven-human hybrids in Ouros and the dragon eggs.
This experience brought back old memories of the fear she once felt toward higher mathematics and linear algebra during her university days in her former life…
To make matters worse, there was no one to guide her.
All she had at her disposal was her divine authority over life, which served merely as a textbook, and the Scepter of Life, which functioned as a reference tool.
It was only now that Evé gained a deeper appreciation for the majesty of the material world, which had birthed countless species through natural evolution.
At the same time, Eve’s respect for her predecessor who had successfully created the Elvenkind increased significantly.
Within the vast expanse of her divine kingdom, divine energy surged continuously as Eve, whilst holding the Scepter of Life, began shaping the new lifeform according to her vision.
Her solemn, ethereal voice echoed throughout the Supreme Divine Temple:
“This new species I shall create must be an energy lifeform, with elements as its body and mana as its sustenance.”
“This species I shall create must possess long lifespans and immense vitality, capable of surviving even in the harshest environments.”
“The species I shall create must have great intelligence and tremendous potential for growth, enabling them to mature rapidly.”
“The species I shall create must reproduce efficiently, capable of forming their own communities in a short span of time.”
Radiant lights converged in mid-air, gradually taking the shape of a new being.
Yet, just as the form was about to take on a clear shape, it would collapse suddenly again and again.
Each collapse caused Evé to furrow her brow slightly.
Every failure signified a flaw in her current design.
Still, she did not view these setbacks as inherently negative.
If such problems arose, they had to be be solved.
As long as all issues were addressed one by one, the goal can ultimately be achieved.
She is, after all, the Goddess of Life.
She holds the key to all the mysteries of life—that is, her divine authority over life itself.
This authority was a power granted to her by the will of the universe.
No matter how complex the task of creating life may be, it still falls within the domain of her divinity.
Creating a new species may be difficult, but even if it takes time and meticulous refinement, she can, in theory, eventually perfect its design.
Ultimately, the laws that govern the creation of this new lifeform will be realized.
It would simply require repeated trials and continuous revisions.
However, Evé was reluctant to resort to such brute-force approach of accumulating progress over years or even decades.
Thus, she had another solution in mind.
While creating a race from scratch is extraordinarily difficult, having a point of reference allows for the possibility of shortening the process.
That reference was the elves.
By now, Evé had come to understand that the ability to birth elves was not an innate trait of the World Tree, but rather a gift from her predecessor.
All things in existence follow a set of laws.
And deep within her own core origin, the law for the birth of elves had already been inscribed into it.
Therefore, all Evé needed to do now was to extract and inscribe these laws embedded within her core origin, and then, through her authority over the divinity of life, swiftly absorb and comprehend them.
In other words, it was akin to doing practice problems.
Previously, while Evé was indeed capable of birthing elves into existence, she did so purely on an instinctual basis. Even modifying the elves’ physical forms or crafting player avatars fell within the scope of that instinct.
Now, however, she intended to understand the laws behind it at their source.
Once she fully grasped it, her ability to create life would undergo a qualitative transformation.
Of course, this would come with a side effect:
The new race she creates would inevitably bear traces of the elves.
Even so, Evé did not find this trade-off unacceptable, as long as they didn’t inherit the elves’ notorious stubbornness.
With this in mind, Evé decisively delved into the depths of her core origin and, within its intricate structure of interwoven laws, located the governing laws her predecessor had inscribed specifically for the creation of elves.
Since this was within her own body, locating them posed no difficulty.
Upon finding these laws, Evé began analyzing them using her divine power and consciousness.
Suddenly, a vast and complex network of laws flooded her mind, overwhelming Evé with an immense computational load that left her momentarily stunned.
It felt exactly like that moment back in high school when she had sought to quickly understand a solution, only to discover the explanation spanned multiple long, dense, and confusing pages.
Honestly, it was mentally exhausting.
Nonetheless, this was far better than attempting to discover everything from scratch.
With a calm and focused mind, Evé relied on the power of the Scepter of Life and began rapidly absorbing and understanding the laws behind the creation of elves.
This process lasted two full months.
And within these two months, a great deal had happened in the outside world.
For example, several player cities had been successfully established one after another.
And around the vicinity of the divine kingdom of her predecessor, an increasing number of forces had started to move, prodding and searching for a way to enter it.
Despite being immersed in the study of laws of creation, Evé had not entirely detached herself from the world, still allocating a part of her focus to overseeing affairs concerning the players and the realm of Seigües.
With her approval, the seven new cities, namely Gray Haven, Mountpeak City, Winterhold, Shangjing, Atlantis, Eden, and Lordaeron, were officially integrated into the game system, each with its own teleportation node.
Although each city still had significant progress to make before achieving their intended scale of infrastructure, their foundational frameworks had already been established. From this point forward, what remained was consistent and sustained development.
Among the 300,000+ players across the server, nearly two-fifths chose to settle in these new cities.
Even some native elves and half-elves from Ouros accepted invitations from players and chose to settle in the new cities, particularly in Grey Haven where the number of such migrants was the highest.
The Chosen City still remained the central hub within the game, but the strain from overpopulation had significantly eased.
When First Legion’s city of Winterhold was completed, Evé finally announced the opening of the new dungeon:
The Shattered Divine Kingdom.
Unlike the spatial passages that had manifested sporadically in the northern region, this time, Evé took a direct approach by placing a portal to the divine kingdom directly in Winterhold.
In that moment, dazzling divine light illuminated the new city, resembling a true miracle.
Such a spectacle naturally captured the players’ attention.
As expected, it sparked a wave of excitement.
Shortly after the announcement of the dungeon of the “Shattered Divine Kingdom”, Evé sensed a massive surge of players flooding into Winterhold in the northern part of the Elven Forest, resembling a swarm of locusts.
“A new dungeon! I heard it’s called the Shattered Divine kingdom!”
“Was this map really a battlefield during the holy war a thousand years ago?”
“Surely, a place like this must be overflowing with treasure!”
“We might even unlock hidden quest related to the goddess!”
In an instant, countless players poured into the area.
The newly constructed teleportation array in Winterhold was suddenly overwhelmed and nearly destroyed by the influx of visitors.
Evé, through the game network, even saw the dumbfounded expression of the First Legion’s guildmaster as he watched his freshly built city get “conquered” by waves of players.
Seeing the players’ enthusiasm greatly pleased Evé.
Seizing the moment, she also lifted the restrictions on the various spatial passages scattered throughout the northern part of the Elven Forest to allow those other adventurers from other factions to enter as well.
From here onward, it would be a contest on who was more formidable: the players, or these adventurers?
In theory, everything that happened within the Shattered Divine Kingdom was observable to Evé.
Thus, it served not only as a battlefield for player entertainment but also as one for her amusement.
Observing players and adventurers cleverly outmaneuver one another, eagerly exploring and treasure-hunting within a dungeon meticulously crafted by her own hand, brought her a genuine sense of delight.
She wished she had popcorn and soda to accompany her while watching such spectacle, as that would make the experience truly perfect.
In this way, watching the happenings inside the new dungeon became a form of leisure during her intensive study of the laws of creation.
And after two months, Evé had finally mastered the complex laws behind the creation of the elves.
Within her divine kingdom, Eve’s incarnation stood holding the Scepter of Life, while gazing at the glowing orb formed by the laws of elven creation.
She silently nodded as trace of realization emerged in her expression.
“So this is it… lifespan, intelligence, reproductive capability, and potential—these are the four greatest hurdles in the creation of new life.”
“To achieve excellence in even one of them is already a tremendous feat.”
“Moreover, these four aspects are inherently in conflict with one another. To maximize any one of them would inevitably comes at the cost of the others.”
“This is why the dragons, though immensely powerful and long-lived, struggle to increase their population.”
“This is why, despite being a race of great intelligence, elves take a long time to mature, with many elves remaining pure and naïve like children even at the age of one hundred.”
“This is also why humans, despite their strong reproductive capacity and relatively high average intellect, have such short lifespans and a low probability of awakening extraordinary powers.”
“In the end, it all comes down to balance.”
“However, this balance is not absolute as it can also be broken. One such instance is when a species is first created, or when a unique individual is born…”
“For instance, first-generation species and extraordinary individuals can exhibit excellence in all four aspects.”
“This was the case with the primordial elves and the ancient dragons from several eras ago… as well as some rare prodigies among humankind.”
“Yet once life is born, it becomes subject to the laws of the universe. Any individual or lineage that disrupts the balance will inevitably diminish over generations.”
“Hence, the decline of the dragons and the eventual diminished potential of the primordial elves.”
“No wonder all my previous attempts at creating a new species failed. I had wanted this new race to possess long lifespans, strong vitality, high intelligence, great potential, and fast reproduction all at once. I was essentially trying to make a species excel in all four aspects, which is fundamentally impossible.”
“In fact, if such a species could truly be created, the entire world order would be overturned.”
“Everything is about balance…”
Evé sighed softly.
Had she not studied the laws left behind by her predecessor and instead tried to explore them on her own, it would have taken an exceedingly long time to create a race that met her expectations.
Worse yet, she might have endlessly pursued perfection and fallen into the trap of chasing an unattainable balance.
“The laws of life are truly marvelous… In that light, the fact that my predecessor was able to create elves with such well-rounded attributes is truly impressive.”
“But I have regained my confidence now that I understand where I went wrong.”
“If perfection across all is unattainable, then I must be willing to sacrifice, or rather, balance certain aspects.”
“Fortunately, appearance is not among the restricted parameters of life creation. Otherwise, for someone like me who deeply values aesthetics, it would have been a true disaster…”
With that thought, Evé once again raised the Scepter of Life, willed her immense divine power, and filled the Supreme Temple with a sacred, awe-inspiring aura as her ethereal, otherworldly voice echoed once more.
“This new species I shall create must be an energy lifeform, with elements as its body and mana as its sustenance.”
“This species shall possess relatively long lifespans and the vitality inherent to beings of energy, able to survive in environments suited to them.”
“It shall possess sufficient intelligence, with a chance for certain individuals, especially among the first generation to be born with extraordinary potential and rapid growth capability.”
“This species shall have basic reproductive ability and be capable of forming its own communities under suitable conditions.”
“It shall possess a dreamlike appearance, be kind by nature, yet flexible and adaptable in character…”
Radiant light began to gather steadily before Evé, coalescing into a brilliant, pulsating form. The vast divine power of life surged relentlessly into this luminous shape, imbuing it with vibrant energy and presence.
With each deliberate declaration she made, the shimmering brilliance grew stronger and more intense, casting vivid reflections throughout the Supreme Temple.
Finally, when she spoke the last divine utterance, infused deeply with the power of law, the light exploded into its zenith—blinding in its intensity and majestic in its grandeur, filling the entire space with overwhelming divine radiance.
In the next moment, the radiance condensed as she felt her divine power being rapidly drained.
At the same time, a hazy silhouette slowly began to form in front of her.
“This time… it should succeed.”
Evé felt both hopeful and anxious.
Without hesitation, she summoned another orb of divine light and imbued it with the racial inheritance she had long prepared, then sent it into the glowing formation.
Moments later, the light dissipated and before Evé stood a delicate and beautiful figure.
It was the embodiment of the new race she had envisioned.
She possessed the striking beauty of elves, perhaps even more refined. Her eyes were closed, her long, fluttering lashes adding to her gentle charm.
Yet her body was far more petite than that of an elf, only slightly larger than the palm of a hand.
She radiated a soft, warm glow which was a hallmark of an energy-based lifeform.
On her back were a pair of butterfly-like wings, semi-transparent and radiant with elemental brilliance.
The next instant, the petite figure finally opened her eyes.
They were as clear as the sky and as dazzling as the stars whilst gazing directly at Evé.
Those bright, expressive eyes shone with innocence, affection, and the sentience unique to intelligent life.
Then, she gently flapped her wings and floated gracefully toward Evé, landing sweetly on her outstretched right hand.
With a respectful and affectionate bow, she spoke in a soft, childlike voice:
“I, Elemental Fairy thanks the Divine Mother for her creation.”
“I await the name the Divine Mother shall bestow upon me.”
