Chapter 69: Chapter 62: Great Battle
Shane Sterling’s expression eased slightly, but he didn’t respond.
Isla Prescott wanted to placate him, but she really wasn’t good at it. All she could do was sit there as they stared at each other in silence.
After a short wait, the crab roe noodles were brought to their table.
Shane Sterling poured a generous amount of vinegar into his noodle bowl and even looked like he was going to add more.
“Isn’t that a bit much?” Isla Prescott pointed out.
“I just happen to like vinegar.”
’So much for placating him.’
While he was eating, Isla Prescott pulled out her phone, holding it under the table. She secretly searched, “How to cheer up a jealous boyfriend?”
The results were all over the place, but for a man like Shane Sterling, who wanted for nothing, none of them seemed very practical.
One comment in particular had a high number of likes.
Isla Prescott couldn’t resist clicking on it to see.
The comment read: “Go at it all night. Make him feel your love, body and soul, until his jealousy disappears and he feels secure again.”
’Well…’
“What are you looking at?”
Seeing her completely engrossed in her phone, Shane Sterling’s already jealous heart felt another pang of being ignored.
He reached his long arm across and rapped his knuckles sharply on the edge of the table by Isla Prescott.
Shane Sterling had only meant to snap her out of her daze. Unfortunately, Isla Prescott’s mind was currently in the gutter, and her nerves were on high alert. The sudden noise made her jump, and her phone clattered to the floor.
CLACK! The phone landed on the tiled floor by the leg of the table.
Isla Prescott was about to retrieve it, but Shane Sterling was faster, bending down to pick up her phone.
His eyes fell right on the webpage she had been viewing.
“I— It’s not… I just…” Isla Prescott was tongue-tied, unable to form a coherent sentence. She hastily snatched her phone back and quickly locked the screen.
Shane Sterling sat up straight. He said nothing, but his face was a whirlwind of micro-expressions.
“It’s not what you think! I just clicked on it by accident,” Isla Prescott explained.
If Shane Sterling decided to tease her with that sharp tongue of his right now, she would simply die of embarrassment.
But Shane Sterling refused to say a word. He just picked up his chopsticks and unhurriedly continued eating his noodles.
The more silent he was, the more on edge Isla Prescott felt.
It felt like being subjected to death by a thousand cuts, inflicted by her own mortification.
After what felt like an eternity, Shane Sterling finally finished his noodles.
“Sir, the check.”
“You got it, sir. That’ll be one hundred and eight for the noodles.”
Shane Sterling paid directly by scanning the QR code.
The owner saw the amount and immediately stopped Shane Sterling. “Sir, it’s one hundred and eight for the bowl. Why did you pay so much extra?”
“A tip.”
Tipping is more of a foreign custom. It’s rare for people in this country to tip voluntarily, and it’s even rarer for the tip to be more than the bill itself.
The owner was delighted. “It seems you really enjoyed our noodles, sir.”
“It’s the vinegar you make here. I’m a big fan.”
’Vinegar?’
The owner stood there, stunned, as Shane Sterling took Isla Prescott’s hand and led her away.
By the time they stepped out of the noodle shop, the storm clouds in a certain someone’s eyes had cleared.
“Which hotel are you staying at?” he asked.
“Cloudhaven.”
“Then I’ll check into Cloudhaven as well.”
“It’s peak tourist season, and with the Taoli Cup finals being held at Cloudhaven, the hotel is already fully booked.”
“Are there any other hotels near Cloudhaven?”
“You can look it up.”
Shane Sterling took out his phone and had a look. Cloudhaven was clearly the best option nearby in terms of atmosphere and service.
Seeing that no other hotel caught his eye, Isla Prescott spoke up. “I have a room with a king-size bed. If you really don’t want to stay anywhere else, you could crash at my place for the night.”
Shane Sterling looked up. “What’s this? Planning to go at it all night with me?”
“No…”
“Don’t you be getting any ideas. I’m a man who considers the bigger picture. You have a competition tomorrow, so I can’t disturb your rest tonight. I’ll just find somewhere to crash for the night.”
