Chapter 36: I Accept
“Young Lord Jin, thank you for having us.” President Valen of Astranova Industries bowed in a respectful manner as soon as he entered the mansion.
He then motioned to the older man beside him. “Young Lord Jin, this is Stanley, the Guild Leader of the Void Mercenary Guild.
Stanley, this is the Level 3 Citizen I informed you about.”
“Young Lord Jin, it’s my pleasure to make your acquaintance,” said Stanley after getting the cue from his friend. “And though this may be rather forward of me so soon after meeting each other for the first time, I’d like to ask for your assistance in a matter.”
“Ho?” Jin arched a brow. “What is it that I can do for you? As long as it’s nothing too excessive, I don’t mind helping.”
“Well…” Stanley hesitated. “Haiz… I’ll just get it out there and tell you that I’m trying to recruit a talented youth for my Guild. However, that talent has also caught the eye of a different Mercenary Guild. The Black Sun Guild.”
“And you need me to… what? Leverage my status as a Level 3 Citizen to take your side in what I assume to be a poach-off?”
“You’re very astute, Young Lord Jin, and yes, that is precisely what we need,” replied Stanley.
Jin pondered.
According to what he knew of how Cosmic Society operated, particularly the Mercenary side, unaffiliated talents were few and far between. Therefore, when one appeared, it typically caught the eye of several local Mercenary Guilds.
In this case, those Guilds were the Void, Black Sun, and Terra Nova Guilds.
However, after the initial round of offering benefits to the talent in question, the weakest and poorest Terra Nova Guild was automatically taken out of the negotiations. After which, it ended up being a showdown between the Void and Black Sun Mercenary Guilds, both of whom were unwilling to relent.
Eventually, after the benefits and conditions offered to the talent exceeded a certain threshold, the two Guilds tacitly agreed to finish up the standoff a different way. Consequently, this led to the employment of the ’Connections Strategy.’
Jin was well informed concerning many things in High Cosmic Society, so naturally, he knew that the ’Connections Strategy’ was a way for the desired talent to understand which of the Guilds had the best connections.
Only the one with the broadest and most superior connections would be chosen by the talent in 9 out of 10 cases.
One could say that it was the final tiebreaker.
“Of course, I won’t be asking you to give me your support in this endeavor for nothing, Young Lord Jin,” Stanley quickly said. “As long as you give us one of your official Cosmic Carrier Tokens, I’ll wire you three hundred million Cosmic Human Coins. Additionally, I’ll have the Deep North Trading Association deliver you two Rank 3 Cosmic Medicines I collected some centuries ago.”
“Oh, really?” Jin was definitely interested. It wasn’t so much the 300 million Cosmic Human Coins that reeled him in; rather, it was the two Rank 3 Cosmic Medicines that tipped the scale in favor of saying yes.
Any single Rank 3 Cosmic Medicine contained the fusion of Intents, which was the trademark of the 3rd Rank.
For Jin, this meant very good things and could further guide him through Rank 2 into Rank 3.
But even without that being the case, even the worst of Rank 3 Cosmic Medicines could be sold for hundreds of millions of Cosmic Human Coins. In fact, probably the only reason Stanley was giving them away was because the fused Intents they contained were useless to all of his Guild’s Evolvers.
Not everyone had hundreds of Intents like Jin. Most only had 1, with a rare few possessing 2 or more. Naturally, the resources they consumed or benefited from had to be of the corresponding aspect.
’This Stanley could potentially sell the Rank 3 Cosmic Medicines on the Virtual Market, but if he’s willing to give them away like this, they’re very likely to contain uncommon Intents,’ Jin thought. ’A fated buyer might one day come along to purchase them, but by then, their value likely would’ve dropped due to buyer pressure.’
All things considered, though, Jin could be looking at a deal worth 600+ million Cosmic Human Coins.
It was also very likely that the Intents contained in the Rank 3 Cosmic Medicines were similar in composition to one of his plethora of Intents. This could, in turn, make the deal skyrocket to more than one billion.
Though Stanley didn’t need to know that.
“This proposal of yours,” Jin began, acting indifferent, “I have decided.”
)
Valen and Stanley were left on the edge of their seats.
“I’ll… accept.”
When they heard Jin speak those words, they breathed a sigh of relief.
Stanley for obvious reasons, while Valen did so because he would benefit by being related to the Leader of the Guild that would recruit the talent.
They both benefited.
