Before I could protest, she slapped Solaria’s side and said, “Hurry, Solaria! We have to beat him!”

Solaria rolled her eyes—affectionately—and replied, “As you wish, my little mistress.”

With a single flap of her massive wings, the air around us exploded into motion. Trees swayed. Leaves scattered. And then, in a blaze of flame-tipped feathers, Solaria launched skyward, tearing through the skies toward home—Luna’s laughter echoing behind her.

“Heh,” I began to smile as Luna and Solaria vanished into the distance. “You think you can beat me, little Luna? Think again.”

With that, I disappeared from the forest edge—and reappeared moments later in front of our villa on the Universal Plain. I opened the door and called out, “I’m home, Mom! It’s me!”

“Oh, so it’s you, huh, son?” my mom replied from the couch, sitting with my dad. Right beside them was Fafnir, eyes glued to the TV, watching… some vampire anime?

Well—saying they were watching it is a bit of a stretch. It was mostly Fafnir. He’d been hooked on this show ever since he found out one of the characters had the same name and similar powers as him—just weaker, of course. Typical.

“She just left a bit ago to go play. I let her be.”
