The further it went, the more the sword energy expanded, and the more ships it consumed beneath it. Each ship it passed through was cut in half almost instantly… before bursting into flames.

The sword energy tore through the formation of ships, consuming and destroying many in its path until it struck two of the star fortresses at once. Despite their six-layer shields being active, the sword energy, though quite depleted, still managed—with some struggle—to break through all six layers. The 30 km diameter fortress was cut cleanly in half…

The other was severely damaged.

From the now-destroyed star battle fortress, a raging unstable energy erupted, causing the vast structure to crumble within itself like an implosion… before it suddenly expanded in a dark, orange blast that swallowed a few nearby ships. Even the half-destroyed star fortress was pulled into the explosion of flames and similarly burst into a powerful detonation, consuming several more vessels around it. The arc of its explosive force even struck the few Taurus-class ships hiding behind.

Those ships barely withstood the explosive forces, though their hulls shuddered under the strain.

The explosive might of the two star fortress destructions at that moment created a small star several kilometers wide right there…

One could say it was a miracle that the flagship of the Zyth was “unharmed” and outside the radius of the destroyed star fortresses. That was the only reason they all survived…

He fired a couple of shots from the semi-nova cannon and managed to take down a few dozen ships within the capital line of the Minotaurs. Along with that, two more star battle fortresses were successfully destroyed by him, and their aftereffects consumed another few dozen ships of various kinds…

In just a few dozen minutes, Kael was able to completely shatter the backbone of the Minotaur fleet, dealing severe damage to their strength, numbers, and morale, completely disrupting them.

With several military leaders already gone, chaos erupted within the Minotaur lines. They found themselves utterly helpless at that moment, watching how a single mech was able to cause such havoc within their fleet, and they weren’t able to do a thing in return.

Kael, seeing this through the cockpit of the Dark Blade, was hardly surprised at the strange yet expected turn of events and what the Minotaurs were trying to do and achieve.

“Huh… you want me to be distracted by these measly efforts? Hehe… not so easy, Minotaurs. Not that easy. If you want to escape through my grasp, you’ll need to do a bit more than that…”

Kael sneered.

He didn’t force himself toward the half of the Minotaur fleet rushing toward his own forces. Instead, he focused on those that remained… and the three remaining star battle fortresses.

“Now it’s your turn…”

Pulling back the semi-nova cannon, which disappeared just as it had appeared from the back of the Dark Blade, he rushed toward the battlecruiser ahead. Taking out a dagger, he slashed at the cruiser’s shield. The dagger was made of a special metal capable of disrupting any kind of energy shield when sufficient energy was fed into it.

And just like that, he was able to cut through the ship’s shield easily, and all it took was a small portion of his mana.

Passing through it while casually dodging the close-range weapon systems—since they were able to target him at this slower speed—he moved in.

At astonishing speed, he swung his dagger at the ship’s hull and successfully created a vast gap in it. Through that opening, he fired a couple of charged plasma shots and even threw an antimatter grenade before jumping to another vessel.

The one he had just left behind burst into charged antimatter particles, consuming the whole vessel.

And just like that, his rampage continued…

Mimosa, aware of all of it, could not help but clench his fists in anger, seeing the human mecha weaving through the fleet and taking down several barrel cruisers and even more ships within just a few minutes.

“Damn human insect,” Mimosa muttered, rage filling his voice and chilling everyone in the command brigade. Even the attacking commander Zyth felt his heart turn cold, and all the anger building within his chest vanished just like that.

Who cares if my position is taken by Mimosa… he is more qualified to lead now. I should keep my silence at a moment like this rather than speak up.

Zyth gulped, his throat dry as the fear he felt in Mimosa’s presence became overwhelming. He had the distinct feeling that if he dared to cross the line—even if he were only trying to reassert his authority as the rightful Head Commanding Officer—it would be his end. Zyth knew that he was no longer in control; it was Mimosa who held the reins of everything now.

He had realized the truth the moment his eyes landed on the few dozen highly armored Elite Regiments standing around the bridge. These soldiers were armed to the teeth, their fingers hovering over the triggers of their rifles, ready to do anything at Mimosa’s slightest whim.

Zyth recognized them instantly; these elites belonged to the Defense Fleet itself. If anyone tried to tell him that these soldiers would obey him over Mimosa—the man whose very presence they lived and breathed for—he would have rolled his eyes. He knew better. The people of the Defense Fleet were loyal to Mimosa alone.

Knowing this, Zyth understood he could not cross his bounds, no matter what. He had no choice but to stand by and let Mimosa do exactly as he wished, without a single word of protest.

“Damn them!” Mimosa roared, slamming his hand into one of the advanced monitoring systems. The console shattered under the impact, sparks flying across the bridge. His rage was so absolute it felt as though he were speaking directly to the human fleet itself. “I didn’t want to do this… but you humans have forced my hand!”

With a grim, contorted face, Mimosa clenched his fists. Plans are easy to make and words are easy to speak, but the implementation is a nightmare. Mimosa was facing that reality now; what he was about to do was an act of supreme cruelty toward his own people. If things unfolded poorly, it would result in the deaths of billions of Minotaur civilians—deaths that would happen simply because he wanted to escape.

There was a sharp tug at his conscience, a voice in his mind telling him to stop, that the risk to life was too high. But there was an even greater pull—a cold, survivalist instinct that told him to act without hesitation. Surviving was more important than dying for honor.

The clan was in a state of crisis; who knew what condition the rest of the empire was in? This was the time when the entire race needed every soldier and every ship they could muster. Letting his fleet be destroyed here was a cost the entire clan could not afford. This was just one star system—there were hundreds more.

Sacrifice one to save a hundred. A sacrifice worth making.
