Chapter 20: Where’s Your Stone Egg?
Jayden had begun to wonder, ’Hatred between guys and girls which is more toxic?’
But the true physiology couldn’t be denied, most guys don’t hate they just get angered.
But maybe for just a single meet with a girl, Tyler and Ryan were overdoing things.
This morning, they left for classes without Jayden, not even speaking a word to him, even when he tried talking to them.
At combat classes, they spaced away from him, and if he tried going close to them, they would shoot him a dangerous glare and dismiss him immediately.
“Go meet Zoe you bitch.”
Jayden had no choice but to remain alone, waiting until they came to their senses, while doing the rows of push-ups and other exercises Mr Tony, the combat class teacher, had asked them to do.
He finished his exercises without breaking a sweat thanks to his dragon enhancement, but the inevitable tension in the air brought unease.
Troy’s group was constantly walking past him and sometimes bumping their shoulders into his, and the only people who could help him ignore the teasing were also against him.
They literally exchanged badges in combat class, refreshing the anger in Troy’s group each day.
And Zoe, she noticed everything but decided to remain calm. Even Jayden couldn’t read her thoughts from her look.
This was already a lot for Jayden to handle, adding to the mental disorder the MAGEO and his dad were giving him.
Also, all his online searches for this ’Dr. Freeborn’s guy was all futile.
Seems like Lady Luck had broken up with him once again. What a pain in the ass!.
Jayden sat in Beast Ecology class, trying to concentrate with piercing gazes from five students.
Mr Williams took a remote and cleared his throat.
“In our previous class, we settled the fact that beast Mana evolution exists to eliminate the weakness that normal animals have, just as ancient giraffes were short and our present ones are tall. What did I subtitle that sentence as?’
He turned to face the class.
“Mana Adaptation”, a good number of the class answered back.
Mr Williams turned off the lights and the projector, illuminating the high centre of the hall.
This was the class where Jayden would learn about the environment and the way mana beasts interact with it. Jayden couldn’t afford to be any less concentrated
He took deep breaths, forgot about everything, including his thermoregulation activities, and now the only thing that mattered was Mr Williams’ words.
The professor turned to the screen, which displayed the picture of a herb plant.
“Speaking of plants,” Mr Williams continued, “their typical weakness are movement and nutrients,
Now see how mana adaptation has countered that in just hours, which a naturally growing plant might not have outgrown.
Mana has given these plants the edge to control their growth speed, allowing their branches or vines to crawl long distances and even better, most mana plants are poisonous.’
Jayden chuckled a bit, ’That’s true, if I didn’t find my way out of that farm!’
The horrific scene played in his head again, ’Those plants would have strangled me until I’m dead and nothing more than nutrition to them, I’m sure something similar would happen if I eat a red orange.’
“Creepy”, he whispered through clenched teeth.
The professor turned to the class. “So what do you do when you face such a plant?”
Jayden leaned in.
But just then, the door behind the class opened.
Everyone turned.
At the door stood three men, two were dressed in black suits and sunshade glasses, while the one at the centre…
’Those red scales…, those horns… those wings pattern… Those sharp claws…, T-That aura!’
Jayden’s breath caught in his throat, he immediately severed his thermoregulation mana-absorbing method, compressing his aura in the best way he could.
“What brings a third-generation tamer to our humble academy, sir?” Mr Williams said.
Jayden immediately turned to avoid eye contact.
Such a high rank tamer could see mana clearly in the air, and it wouldn’t take much time before he would detect mana in a supposedly manaless student.
’Damn, what’s he doing here?, Draco!’ Jayden exclaimed in thoughts, his heart racing and sweat crawling down his face.”
He was compressing his mana as much as he could, pulling it into the shape of a small ball within his chest.
The dragon tamer, who was a flame Elementalist judging from the colour of his scales, scanned the class.
“Sorry for the interruption, I’m looking for the student with the stone egg beast.”
The air was stone cold, Jayden’s heart threatened to explode, and it felt like the man’s words kept on playing in his mind.
’He’s looking for me? Could it be they found out I infuriated the MAGEO?
No! I was damn careful.
Or did they rectify my result issue, and want to replace my beast?
Not possible either, they wouldn’t waste their time on that.’
“You have visitors Jayden!” Mr Williams purred.
All eyes were locked on Jayden, as murmurs spread through the class.
’Draco!, Draco! Draco!’ Jayden screamed in his mind as he subconsciously stood up, limbs shaking.
But Draco didn’t reply. Could he even hear him? Maybe the dragon was sleeping.
One of the men in black suits stepped forward.
“Mr Jayden please come with us, we have a few questions to ask you.”
Jayden felt an electric current flow down his body. He picked up his egg and stepped out of his seat with his head down, trying to force composure into his stance.
It was natural for a couple of D-rank students to crumble in the face of a dragon tamer, the aura in the air already heavy, so Jayden, being high-level, in such a case, his terror is well relatable and less suspicious.
But what question were they going to ask him?
Wait, would it really end with questions?
Jayden stood between the two men while the dragon tamer was behind them.
They walked down the hallway to an isolated window, just before the other end of the hallway.
The dragon tamer stood, facing outside the window while Jayden and the others were behind him.
“Now, young Logan,” the dragon tamer whispered, “where is your stone egg?”
