Chapter 48: Level 2 dungeon foretelling
If something really is going on behind the scenes, then MAGEO has succeeded in just a couple of hours, cuz, the sound of popping chewing gum was as abundant as the oxygen in the air, even in combat class.
The only set of people left out of this parade was those with A-rank potential.
Jayden was most thankful since that left out Zoe and her roommates.
The worst happened when Mr Tony entered and brought tens of cartons of Beast Elixa, saying the Managing Director asked that each low-potential student should have one.
The man was sure determined about winning this tournament, but trust Jayden, not even the surface of the carton touched any of his teammates’ hands, and Mr Tony didn’t protest, he’s been acting more like a loyal subordinate since he figured out Jayden’s true status.
Whatever the MAGEO was planning, they surely weren’t gonna get away with it. Just wait till the semester ends, but for now, Jayden had combat classes to focus on.
Mr Tony clapped loudly, drawing everyone’s attention to himself. “Alright, enough chewing gum, spit it or keep it, I don’t care—but eyes forward.”
Half the class kept on chewing like their lives depended on it.
“Those of you who almost died in the level 1 dungeon, I’ll spare you a second chance, while the others proceed to conquer the level 2 dungeon.”
Troy’s group turned to Jayden while clicking their tongue, “Guess someone is being saved by their own failure.”
“Booooo” Jayden stuck out his tongue and teased them.
Mr Tony cleared his throat, stealing back the attention, then continued, “The level two dungeon is no joke, it’s more natural and beast-inhabited than the level one.
The school only created one way in and out, but recent reports say Jurassic moles have created a network of tunnels down there. You wouldn’t want to get lost, so pay attention.”
Jayden whispered just to Ryan’s hearing, “I think the level two dungeon is kinda tough for year one students, how many levels are they actually?”
“What other choice do we have?” Ryan purred, “There are a total of fifteen dungeon levels and the more you clear, the more useful your certificate, it’s just the only way to get a fair job with a low-potential beast ”
“What? Fifteenth? But how about the mana concentration?”
“Only those with willpower and talent actually dare enter a high-level dungeon. If you slip for even a second, you might end up as fertiliser, and no one would even care. Well, your parents already signed a Waiver of Liability, so no one really cares if you die.”
Jayden didn’t reply anymore; now was the time to listen rather than get distracted since his life totally depended on it.
Mr Tony pressed the remote button, and a projection screen dropped down in front of the class. Then, the projector cast the image of a dungeon.
Mr Tony pointed at the diagram, “This is the entrance of the dungeon, immediately after the usual, down the leading stairs.
It was structured just like the level one trap room, with traps at the centre and about six tunnels at the other end.
“If paraventuly, you’re good enough to pass the traps which you’ll need, mid-tier grade, mana prediction, quick reaction and most importantly teamwork, then you should take the second tunnel, counting from you left, otherwise you’ll end up in a home of beasts you can’t handle.
“Hmm, sir”, Ryan raised up his hand, “what beast should we be?”
The professor touched fingers together, “Even that I don’t know. While creating the dungeon, we stationed four earth-type beasts but since Jurassic Moles started digging the whole place, maybe more might have joined in.”
“If we don’t know what we’re facing, then how do we even survive? Are you sending us to an early grave?” One of the students protested.
Murmurs filled the hall, and everyone seemed to be nervous in one way or the other.
Mr Tony raised his voice, “You all have the right to back off if you’ve still got a weak ass, but remember whatever you do reflects in your certificate, and even the single act of attempting gains points.”
“Sir please go on, let them piss in their undies if they want to,” Troy bluffed.
’Hey, that’s my line’ Jayden smirked.
The professor nodded and continued, “My advice to students is to never engage beasts in combat in dungeon levels, 2 down to 8 which only have the space of tunnels, so I created a mini test to help teach a glimpse of what you’re gonna see there.
The professor shifted his foot and the centre and the whole of the platform within the stadium-like arena flipped over, revealing a whole set of traps with a clear goal at its end.
“If you can’t pass this, forget taking the exams, can’t have people’s mothers crying on my neck.”
“Ohh, now we’re talking”, Jayden nodded with a smile while studying the trap settings.
“I’ll call a list of those who would proceed to the second dungeon. If you aren’t called, go revamp yourself. Tomorrow night, you’ll take the level one tests again.”
Well, the students already knew which category they were without being told.
Those with level two dungeon potential went down the stage to Mr Tony.
Troy smiled, looking up to the students who were left behind—almost half of the class, but the set of faces he was searching for weren’t there.
He frowned, turning his head chaotically until he spotted Jayden, and wait, even Ryan and Tyler were here.
“The fuck are these craps doing here?, trying to force your way in, not funny!”
Jayden folded his arms, “What? You’re disappointed? Sorry, but we passed fair and square.”
“That’s a lie” Troy roared, gaze flanking between Mr Tony and team 24, “Mr Tony had to come back for you, else you’ll be in a poster written ’Gone Too Soon’!”
“Enough!” Mr Tony prompted, “Team 1 would give you all an example on how to go about the test.”
Troy smiled for a second then his heart skipped.
Actually, the real Team 1 in combat classes was…
Jayden placed a hand on both sides of his head and stuck out his tongue,
“Boooo”
