Chapter 73: Summons against Legends
On Liam’s Part of the Battlefield…
The facility’s rooftop had become a theater of supernatural warfare, where the very air crackled with magical energy. Liam stood at one end as his summoned creatures with were locked in battle with Helda’s creature manifestation from her Book of Stories.
The first casualty was the stone gargoyle, with its grotesque features and outstretched wings. It had barely taken flight before meeting its end. As it launched itself towards the opposing set of creatures, Liam merely raised Stormbringer that generated so much electrical energy, which sent a concentrated bolt of lightning erupting from the sword’s tip towards the creature, striking it down mid-flight and disintegrating it instantly into scattered fragments of stone and dissipating magical energy.
But the remaining battles seemed a bit more challenging. The massive dragon found itself engaged by two of Liam’s most formidable summons. The eight-foot Yeti-like creature, a hulking mass of fur and fury had launched itself impossibly high into the air. Its massive fists were joined together in a devastating hammer blow as it crashed down upon the dragon’s skull with bone-rattling force.
The impact drove the dragon’s head downwards, creating a crater in the facility’s rooftop. Before the dragon could recover, a blue-skinned muscular humanoid, the houndkeeper, moved fluidly whilst bringing its enchanted axe down in a perfectly timed strike.
The weapon’s azure patterns pulsed with accumulating energy as it bit deep into the dragon’s scaled hide, causing the massive body to slide sideways from the impact. Yet the dragon’s resilience was absolute, as it tilted its head back with its serpentine eyes snapping open, and fixing onto the duo.
Without hesitation, it unleashed another concentrated beam of flames, the heat so intense it turned the air itself into a shimmering mirage. The Houndkeeper rushed forward to meet the inferno, blue flames streaming from its left palm to clash with the dragon’s fire.
The confrontation created a spectacular display of opposing forces, crimson flames battling cool blue energy in a contest of raw power. All the while, the patterns on the Houndkeeper’s axe continued to glow brighter, absorbing the residual heat energy for a devastating counterattack.
…
On another section of the rooftop, the chimera prowled forward, Its lion’s mane bristling as flames flickered between its bared fangs, while its goat head bleated and its serpentine tail coiled venomously as it faced off against Ragar, Liam’s giant bear.
The massive bear rose on its hind legs, standing at nearly twenty feet tall, with jagged plates of dark armor fused into its flesh which covered every inch of its hulking frame. The sight was both magnificent and terrifying.
The battle begun and the chimera struck first, as creatures of legend often did, unleashing a torrent of fire that washed over the bear’s chest plate. The flames scattered harmlessly against the tempered steel, and the bear dropped to all fours with a thunderous crash that caused cracks on the ground as it charged forward with surprising speed for its size, closing the distance before the chimera could retreat.
The beast’s goat head tried to gore the bear’s shoulder, but its horns scraped uselessly against the armor. Meanwhile, the serpent tail lashed out, its venomous fangs seeking gaps in the protection, but found only overlapping steel plates as well. The bear’s massive paw swept across the chimera’s flank, with its razor-sharp claws finding purchase between the lion’s ribs.
In a desperate attempt, the chimera reared back and breathed its hottest flames directly at the bear’s face. The fire roared around the creature’s armored helm, but the bear pressed forward through the inferno, for where its armor could not protect, the regeneration skill Liam was sharing with it and every other summon, would immediately heal. Its jaws clamped down on the chimera’s throat, the powerful bite crushing through flesh and bone with a sickening crunch.
The chimera’s three heads thrashed wildly as its strength gradually diminished. The serpent tail made one final strike, but the bear’s armor held firm. With a final, bone-deep growl, the armored giant shook its prey once and let the lifeless chimera fall from the highest top the facility
Steam rose from his blood-stained muzzle as the creature’s body struck the ground far below with a thunderous thud before disintegrating into sparkling magical dust.
…
Perhaps a more evenly matched battle occurred between the basilisk and Liam’s colossal iron serpent. The legendary creature struck first with its most feared weapon—the death stare. Those terrible yellow orbs, capable of killing any living thing that met their gaze, fixed directly on its opponent, but the iron serpent had no true eyes, only twin slits covered by dark steel mesh that deflected the killing gaze harmlessly.
The basilisk’s most legendary ability proved utterly useless against its armored foe. Hissing in fury at this unexpected resistance, the basilisk lunged forward with lightning speed, its venomous fangs, dripping with poison that could fell armies, sought flesh.
The massive serpents collided with tremendous force, and the basilisk’s fangs scraped against iron plating in a shower of sparks. Its deadly venom, capable of killing any living thing, rolled uselessly down the metal scales.
The iron serpent retaliated by wrapping its coils around the basilisk’s middle section. The steel plates ground against green scales as it constricted, each ring of armor acting like a vice. The basilisk thrashed wildly, its powerful tail whipping through the air as it tried to break free, but the iron serpent’s grip only tightened even further.
With its superior size and the crushing power of its metallic coils, the iron serpent slowly squeezed the life from the basilisk, and the legendary creature’s struggles grew weaker as its ribs began to crack under the relentless pressure.
Finally, with a sound like breaking glass, the basilisk’s spine snapped. Its magnificent head fell still, and moments later, its body disintegrated into what looked like glittering pixie dust
…
However, not all of Liam’s summons fared so well. Lazark, the Ice Elf, found himself hopelessly outmatched against the Balrog
