NADINE’S P.O.V

I rushed out of the kitchen instantly knowing it had to be Rowan.

He’d gone out for a few minutes. He said he needed to clear his head. I offered to follow him but it was something he said he needed to do by himself.

He stood in the living room looking intact except for a scratch on his arm. It looked to be deep and was dripping blood.

“What happened?” I asked, rushing over to him. “Was it-”

“No, it was a feral animal. I didn’t even get a good look at it. It just scratched me and took off.”

I inspected the wound. It looked like cat scratches, I’d know because I’d been around a few not-so-nice cats.

“It’s fine,” he tried to argue, but I ignored him, pulling him into our room with me. “Nadine-”

“Sit,” I ordered.

His brows rose but he didn’t fight me on it. He just sat at the edge of the bed and watched me as I dabbed at his cuts with a cotton pad. His eyes remained on me the entire time, he didn’t flinch, didn’t wince, it was almost as if he couldn’t feel what I was doing.

“I hope the animal didn’t have rabies,” I mumbled as I took out some bandage. “It’ll be a shame to see you die because of a scratch.”

“I don’t need my hand wrapped, princess.”

“Shut up and let me take care of you.”

His lips curved but he did as I asked. When I was done wrapping his hand, I made to step back from between his legs but he was faster, his hand curling around my thigh to keep me in place. I wasn’t sure if it was on purpose or not, but his hand settled high on my inner thigh, very close to the most intimate part of me and I was quickly reminded that it’d been a while since he’d touched me.

A part of me wondered if it was because of the miscarriage, if he was scared to touch me again. I’d refused to push for fear of being rejected, but all that fear was gone now.

“Rowan-” I whispered but he silenced me, tugging me into his lap so I was straddling him. “What are you doing?”

“Holding you,” his lips brushed against mine, his hands trailing up my spine and into my hair. He pressed a soft kiss to my throat and a gasp left my lips. “You’re so beautiful.”

He nipped at my skin, his tongue sliding over the skin.

“Rowan,” I pulled back and he murmured a curse under his breath before lifting his eyes to mine.

“Yes, princess?”

“What are you doing?”

“Kissing you,” he said it as if it was the simplest thing in the world. “Don’t you want me to kiss you?”

“I do, but why?”

He stared at me as if I’d grown two heads. “Do I need a reason to?”

“No, but, you haven’t in a while, I just-” I hesitated before speaking. “I thought you didn’t want to.”

His hands slid down my skin and curved over my ass. He tugged me closer, sliding me over his erection and an embarrassingly loud moan left me. His hand was over my mouth in a second.

“Does that feel like I don’t want to?” he asked incredulously. “I was giving you space, Nadine, and I also knew that if I kissed you, I wouldn’t be able to stop and you don’t know how to be quiet.”

My cheeks flamed. “That’s not true.”

He raised a brow. “Isn’t it?”

I crossed my arms over my chest. “I am very good at being quiet.”

For a second, he said nothing, then in one quick move, He had me pinned to the bed as he hovered over me. He kissed me deeply, his tongue sliding into my mouth as he gripped my neck with one firm hand.

His other hand trailed down my body to my thigh. He hoisted it over his waist and rocked his hips into me, his erection grazing over my slit. My eyes rolled into the back of my head, the pressure just enough that I thought I was going insane. I moaned into his mouth, unable to stop myself.

All of a sudden, he pulled back, the air going cold.

“Just like I said, you’re loud,” he ran his hands over his face in frustration.

He was hard and standing directly in front of me. I wanted to get on my knees in front of him and watch him lose control, but I couldn’t, I couldn’t even bring myself to move.

He stared at me for a second then his lips curved. Before I could ask what he wanted, he was tugging on the waistband of my pants. “Can I?”

I nodded slowly. He pulled off my trousers and underwear in one quick move. “What are you do-”

He tugged my shirt next, lifting it over my body but leaving it tangled around my arms and face. I couldn’t see a thing and all it did was make things more erotic. I tried to speak, but my words came out garbled.

I nodded, unable to form words.

His hands left me all of a sudden, and I heard shuffling as he moved around. The only sound that filled my ears was my heavy breathing.

The seconds seemed to drag on, each moment feeling like an hour. Just when I was about to give in to my curiosity and take off my shirt completely, I felt his hands on my thighs.

I jumped and a dark chuckle followed.

Another kiss, higher this time.

“I’m not going anywhere.”

It was what I intended to say, but it only came out like garbled nonsense.
