Chapter 22: Ch 22: Obedient Prisoner

Hearing what the man said, Weiss was super surprised for a moment but then her cold expression returned and she became extremely cautious of this person before her.

Weiss could not think about any reason why a powerful assassin like him would suddenly want to pledge his loyalty to her and co-operate with her so readily.

So Weiss could only assume that after seeing how young she was, this man was hoping that she would be a naive person who could easily be deceived.

If that was truly the case then this man was making a huge mistake. Even though Weiss herself had not tortured anyone before, what she had suffered throughout her life was nothing less than a torture. So her experience in this field was not low.

Weiss’s mother even had several books related to this topic in her room which she had bought in order to find more horrific and innovative ways to punish her daughter.

As Weiss had also gotten the chance to read those books after her mother’s demise, her theoretical knowledge was also definitely not lacking.

But before doing anything like that, Weiss wanted to ask this man the questions that she had in mind. If he answered them truthfully, that would be good.

But if he did not answer or lied to her then Weiss was going to test out the torture methods that she had learnt on him.

From what Weiss had seen so far, this man did not behaved like an assassin who would protect their organisation’s secret at any cost. So torturing him should be effective.

As for how she was going to detect if this man was lying or her or not, Weiss was going to use her own judgement and intelligence to find that out.

Actually Weiss could very easily guess who was the mastermind behind this man. It was something that could only be done by Count Falgur.

Other than him, no one even remotely related to the poor Souran family had the capabilities to hire an official knight for this kind of job in such a short time period.

So if this man lied about who was behind him coming to this remote territory, Weiss would easily be able to detect it as a lie.

As for the questions for which she was not sure of the answers, Weiss was going to verify them later through various means. She was not planning to end this interrogation session in a short period of time.

With these thoughts in mind, Weiss started the interrogation process. Her voice was cold and she was making it clear that she was not in the mood to joke around.

“First, introduce yourself.”

Hearing this question, Karl did not waste any time and immediately answered –

“Currently my name is Karl and I am a member of the Night Crow hidden dark organisation. Previously before joining this organisation, my name was Karl Dummer and I was the third son of a baron family.

But my mother passed away because of an illness just a little after I was born. So the baron blamed me for the death of his concubine and I was treated very harshly by him.

The other wives of the baron also hated me so my life there was a living hell. So to get out of this hell, I started training very har-”

“Stop. There is no need to give unnecessary backstory. I will ask the next question now.”

Weiss had asked Karl to introduce himself because it was a very good starting point for the interrogation and it would be a very easy question to lie about.

There was no way for Weiss to know about who this person was without him having some kind of identification documents on him, which was very unlikely and easy to fake.

Even for this man who did not look very bright, he was definitely not stupid enough to have his real identifications with him during a mission. Even if he had something it was most probably going to be false.

Weiss was going to check his belongings soon too. She had also carried this man named Karl’s luggage when she was bringing him to the cave.

Fortunately he did not have many things with him and had just one single bag and his sword. So they were quite easy to carry.

Even though this man had said a lot of unnecessary things, among what he had said, several things attracted her attention. If this man was lying about all of this, then Weiss had to admit that he was an exceptionally good liar.

So her next question was about one such thing that she had found important.

“Tell me more about this “Night Crow” organisation.”

Hearing this question, the man named Karl made a thoughtful expression and started talking again –

“”Night Crow” is a dark organisation working in the shadows of the Brightshine kingdom. We do various kinds of jobs and we have several knights in the organisation.

All the people with the strength of a knight were given the title of leader so I am also one of the current leaders. Other than me there are 8 more leaders and all of them were decently strong knights in their prime.

Among the leader, there is an intelligent guy named Richard who is a mid grade knight and also the head among the leaders. He is the only person in the organisation who can order the other leaders around…”

As soon as Weiss asked Karl about his organisation, he immediately told her a lot of things. With how descriptive and detailed his information was, Weiss had a hard time believing that they were false.

There was chance that Karl was just too good at lying or he was mixing a little bit of falsehood with large amount of truth to fool her. But the chance of that happening was low according to Weiss’s judgement.

“What is your reason for coming to this place ?”

“The Night Crow was given a mission to scout this place out and I was chosen to take it. It must be fate at work that it has brought me to this place where I get to meet young miss. I cannot even describe how lucky I have been …”

“Do you know who is behind this mission of yours ?”

“This mission was given to us by the house of Count Falgur. The reward for it was high enough to hire an offical knight. That why I was chosen for this mission even though it was just a simple scouting mission.”

Hearing up until this, Weiss stopped the man from continuing and asked him something with narrowed eyes –

“If the mission was just for simple scouting, why were you directing so much murderous intent toward the village ?”

Hearing this, Karl broke out in a cold sweat and made an embarrassed expression. Then after he said –

“Ah, its amazing that young miss had managed to notice even that. Actually because of the peculiarity of the secret art that I practice, I have a high desire for murder and bloodshed.

So even though it was just a scouring mission, I was planning to vent a little of my inner desire by doing some killing in the territory. Ah, but please don’t worry young miss. I am capable of controlling my desires perfectly.”

Karl’s intention of going on a killing spree in the village was not surprising to Weiss at all. She was able to sense that for a long time now. But what intrigued her was the mention of a secret art that could make someone more murderous.
