Chapter 11 – Leveling Up
“Just use their slow attacks to counter instead, as simple as that,” He muttered, not bothered by the level difference in the slightest.
The second crab tried to corner him on the side, but Yone reacted in time and vaulted over its leg with a quick jump, landing smoothly behind it. The massive crab struggled to turn around in time.
“Too bad you weren’t built for speed but only for defense.”
Spotting a weak point, Yone dashed forward and plunged his dagger into the joint between its shell and leg, dealing a good amount of damage.
-35! Critical Hit!
The crab lets out a screech, stumbling slightly to the back. Its HP dropped significantly as multiple attacks followed right after, slowly eating off its HP.
Anonymous party was shocked when they finished their pack of monsters and turned to look at Yone’s fight. Tonka felt that he wasn’t watching a character in a game but a real person fighting.
Anonymous: “What the hell? You can dodge monster attacks?”
Tonka: “Put aside the game mechanic, that kind of movement isn’t easy to pull off against such fast attacks… he’s on a different level friend.”
HealtheWorld was lost for words for a while before she mumbled,” Why not invite him to your party, big brother? I’m sure he can help you achieve your goals.”
Anonymous went silent as he focused on the fight, his mind thinking of different things,’ If I knew monster attacks could be dodged this way, why would I ever need a tank in the first place,’ His heart was beating faster as he felt the urge to tank a monster and play the same as the assassin called Requiem.
‘No, Tonka is a top-notch player, he would have found out about such a mechanic if it was easy to do. This only means…’ Anonymous didn’t want to think any further as he felt his head hurt, he truly wished to log off and drink a coffee at this point, maybe even re-think his life choices.
‘If I’m a pro then what is he?’
Heh!
Yone was on the side, efficiently finishing the fight, totally immersed in it. The party, being next to him, completely went out of his mind.
A crab swung wildly, but Yone didn’t panic and used Shadow Step to instantly reappear behind it with astonishing speed, striking its exposed weak spot and dealing 25 damage thrice, giving it no chance to use Burrow skill and retreat into the sand for three seconds.
This fight would have been impossible against any other monster at level 6, but since the crabs were mainly defensive, he was able to achieve it.
Yone continued to circle around the crab, targeting its weak points for maximum damage, and he madly plunged his dagger.
Every hit was dealing 25 damage without any critical hits, slowly reducing the crab’s HP.
10%…7%….4%…3%….1%…
-40! Critical Hit!
[Enemy HP: 0/600]
The crab collapsed to the ground, twitching before its massive body slowly turned into pixels, giving players enough time to loot them.
Yone turned to the last crab, smirking as he said.
“Want to try your luck too?”
He then scratched his head in embarrassment.’ I forgot that the running feature will only be implemented after the first major update. It’s stuck with me,’ he chuckled.
Yone tightened the grip on his dagger as he locked onto the second crab heading his way.
Shadow Step!
Evasion!
In just a short moment, Yone killed the second crab as he concentrated on the loot both of them dropped now, but was cut by the rise of experience and level on his leveling bar.
System: Level 6 Lake Shore Crab. Level difference of 5. EXP obtained increased by 500%. Obtained 500 EXP.
System: Player detected that he had defeated a level 6 monster as level 1 with a 5 level difference. Bonus experience triggered. Obtained 300 more EXP for both kills.
Yone’s experience bar suddenly shot to the roof as it broke through the level 2 threshold and jumped to reach 1000 EXP of level two, leaving him only 500 EXP away from level 3.
‘Now this is what I call leveling,’ Yone was pleased with his progress as he checked the loot dropped by both the crabs.
Crab Meat (Common): Used to cook food that provides small HP regeneration over time and restores 1% stamina for the duration of thirsty seconds.
Chitin Shell Fragments (Common): Used in aiding the craft of light armor and shields, which gives a 1% bonus for attack deflection.
Yone didn’t take a second glance at the common items with a 100% drop rate and checked the two last items.
“A shield?” He raised an eyebrow as he picked up the blue shield. The system displayed its stats: +5 defense and +3 endurance and reduce damage taken from aquatic creatures by 10%.” Not bad for a shield.”
He placed one on the bag as he looked at the other, which was also uncommon and a one-handed weapon.
Crab Pincer ( Uncommon–One-Handed Weapon)
Attack: 6-9
Durability: 20/20
Passive Effect: 3% chance to disarm one’s opponent.
‘Both of these can sell for a good amount of money, totally worth it to waste that time and come level up here,’ Yone was about to go and look for the assassin’s hideout when Tonka from behind yelled aloud.
“Friend, wait please,” He waved his hand, afraid that Requiem might go into stealth if he was a second too late, and have to bother sending him a message through Ano.”Can I please buy the shield? It’s really important for me.”
Yone turned his head and glanced at the wooden shield the system had automatically given him, his lips curling into a smile.” Look at its stats. It’s not going to be cheap, you know that, right?” He went to his bag and shared the shield’s stats, expecting the guy to change his mind in a second.
He planned to set up a stall later and sell his goods in the town, but he hadn’t expected Tonka to be watching him all this time and even offer to buy his goods.
After all, shields, especially at the uncommon grade, are almost non-existent in the market right now, and Yone wouldn’t sell them for less than a silver! Hence, he didn’t think a party would have such funds; only upper echelons guild members could buy such a shield at the current stage of the game.
Hiss!
Tonka took a deep breath, seeing the shield’s rank. His breath quickened as he glanced sideways at Ano. Inwardly, he thought,’ Please, friend, I need this.’
